I'm wondering if last night's result concentrated the minds at the club. It moved from haggling to get it done. Orsic I hope is the first of 4 or 5 signings. At least it is a decent start.

If it's true SR weren't at the ground last night, maybe they could hear the 'feedback' we gave at the end from wherever they were?

Signing players based on a world cup goal rarely works out. As much as it's interesting to be looking in the over 18 category, spending on 30+ doesn't feel that great either.

I'd much prefer hear news of Tella being recalled.

I have my reservations about this guy but if our scouts have managed to find a player worse than Tella to join us they should face criminal charges.

I doubt we've signed him purely based on his WC goal. He would have been scouted for a period. You could argue that players will be in their prime at 29/30/31

He’s been a consistent performer for years. Both club and country.
including Champions League and Europa league.

If we bring players in to suit that style then there's no reason it can't work. But we have a team of actual children. Weakling little chess-club children at that. Personally I couldn't care less what style of football we play if it gets results.

But it's the style of football that gets the results that you desire.

Does Orsic usually play as an out an out winger/attacker or more or a genuine left/right midfielder?

Saw a tweet from Zagreb fan saying that in a 352 he would play left of the front 2 and has been an effective threat. Also mentioned that if he played as the LWB he would be very in effective.

It can be but if we were to win games by using a long ball hoof style then I'm all for it.

This long ball narrative is a load of old pony. We don’t play hoof ball anymore than Brentford or West Ham, we used to play long balls with Vestergarrd in the side & knocked it long quite a bit last season for Borja.

We still mince around with it at the back, hence the goal we gave away last night. A long hoof ball side wouldn’t have conceded like that. We still don’t get it in the mixer enough either. We had a few chances to do so last night and still fucking went backwards.

Our long balls aren’t accurate enough and our forward line are hiding a bit. Broja would be able to play up top with this style, so hopefully we can identify a similar striker because Che can’t or won’t do it alone.

Interesting you still have a bit of faith in our scouting. Presumably or apparently they had their eye on Jones for quite some time and look what we got.

I've been suggesting Jackson for some time, so I am glad we are linked, but the idea that we spent £27m on him is frankly ludicrous. He is young and has potential (yeah, I know), but no way is he worth that outlay.

Pretty much LW

Which makes NJs move towards 532 even more baffling but here we are

I think Edozie offers something decent already on the left (he didn't last night when he came on, but he was decent at Fulham). We badly need a right winger. I thought I saw clips of him playing on the right side in the youtube videos.

He’s played there, but primarily plays in the left

I wonder if Edozie can play on the right

Why bother bringing in players who can play football when you’re gonna pelt it up there time and time again.

We didn’t do it “time and time again”. In the last few minutes we were still mincing around, back to keeper, out to centre half, out to wing back, back to keeper. I’m starting to seriously wonder whether our fans actually know what long ball football is, because this isn’t it. It’s a hybrid of mincing around and aimless long passes.

Presumably as its a permanent Orsic would sign a 2 or 3 yesr deal.

He will obviously know there is a decent chance of relegation so perhaps would be willing to play in the Championship. Surely he would be very effective at that level.

If the end product is a long ball then it doesn't really matter if it's preceded by a few pointless passes or not.

I dont believe bringing Tella back and that pressure will help his development. Leave him there so that he can really learn. Scoring goals in the Championship doesnt always lead to goals in the PL

I’m not Che’s biggest fan and I think he’s a large reason why we’re gonna go down, his composure in front of goal is beyond pathetic.

However; you could stick Haaland up top and he’d struggle in this style. What’s the poor bloke expected to do when he’s getting long diagonal punts going over his head all game.

Im sorry but I dont agree, if Haarland had the chances that Che has missed in the last few matches we would have a lot more points. Che is a good hardworking footballer, but finishing is not his best asset. A bit like Ormyroyd, he set up space for Beattie to score. Che was the same for Ings. Get a player up with him that can find the net and we could scrape out of this mess

interesting - i do agree in one way but another way to look at it may be that if he scores the goals that keep us up hes worth 27m and if he doesnt then hes gone after the 6 month loan period and we dont pay the full whack?

Has Orsic had some sort of head injury?

Why would he want to sign for us?

he can't lose though. If he does really well and we stay up he is a PL player. If he does just ok but we go down he gets a move to a PL club like Cornet going to West Ham. And whatever happens he is getting PL wages

I've watched Moffi playing (if you could call it that) for Lorient against Montpellier, bottom third, 0-2, and Anger bottom 2-1. If he touched the ball more than three times over both games I missed it. Never made it out of a trot and looked totally disinterested. Absolutely no goal threat. Lorient were poor as well. I thought we were bad but these two games took it to a whole new level of crap. Chez saw the same matches. He looked athletic but he'd make Moi look like an all action dynamo.

On the basis of those two games and his youtube highlights, I wouldn't be willing to stick my neck out and say he will improve us. He's a little hamstrung by the shit side he plays in, but he may have to feed off scraps here too, so if we are hoping to get a guy that makes things happen through his individual pace, power and dribbling, as Broja did for us last season, then I don't think he's the man. If we are looking for a guy that just puts the ball in the back of the net when he get a chance, then he might be, but those games certainly didn't reveal it.

Personally, I think Beto, mentioned earlier on this thread, looks a better player, and one that has the ability to turn and power away from a defender (Nicholas Jackson might offer that too by the way) - which is something I'd like us to have up front. He only signed on a permanent with Udinese in the summer though, so they wont be looking to sell - and thus would make that deal tough, I suspect.

If he has fallen out with the manager, then Villarreal might consider a loan with a view to a permanent move, just to get him out of the building. And that would suit us well. Whether it would suit him, I am not sure. The fact we are signing Orsic, to play on the left, which is where Jackson has played, suggests that move is just `agent' placed.

Before I saw your last para I was already thinking Beto from his video.

He looks a proper player to me. However, I am a sucker for fast forwards that have ball skills and can dribble (Henry Camara is still one of my favourite Saints players) - and they often don't put the ball in the back of the net enough.

One thing I will say about Moffi, is I did see hi trying to make a few runs on the shoulder of defenders. His team mates never looked for him though, so he was never found. I watch Che and he stands still most of the time, which annoys me, so maybe there is something in there that could help us. I may watch one more game, but boy is it dull.
