Finally get linked with a class player like Mislav Orsic, and we all know how this is going to play out.

Saints: Hi, we have some interest in signing Orsic from you, and will offer you the generous sum of €5.5M.

DZ: We want €8M.

Saints: We'll need to have a little think about that. Will get back to you in a few days.

Five days later...

Saints: How about €6M? That's a great deal for your guys.

DZ: We want 8.

Another few days pass...

Saints:  Look, we're not going to be held to ransom. €7M is our final offer, and we do suggest you take it!

DZ: We just sold him to Leeds for €8M you cunt.

______________________

How it should  play out in our current circumstances:

Saints: Hi there, we'd love to take Mislav Orsic off your hands. How much do you want for him?

DZ: €8M please.

Saints: Get him on a plane to Southampton in the next 30 minutes and we'll give you €Nine.

The ‘you cunt’ is correct and doing some wonderful heavy lifting there.

Just now, The Cat said:

Does everyone believe that all other transfers occur with Team X offering Team Y exactly what they want from the start?

Of course they don't. Get a grip people.

I'm more concerned that we have some on here that genuinely believe other teams do their scouting by following rumours on twitter. Mental.

Unfortunately we are in a very weak negotiating position.

If it is a very low outlay with the risk of it going elsewhere if we dick around and given the seriousness of our position and need to get improvements in as soon as possible, in this particular instance we should have paid what they wanted right from the start, yes. Not all transfers obviously. Get a grip.

I apologise for making a humorous comment about our recruitment department who have done so much for the club, and indeed the city of Southampton in recent years.

The Daily Mail is a bit like Alex Crook when it comes to reliability. The Mail would have you believe that the likes of air, breathing, stepping outside in the morning would give you cancer. It’s a rag of a paper.

Regarding Orsic the name rings a bell but I couldn’t tell you a thing about him. I didn’t actually see any Croatia games at the World Cup 😅

Moffi strikes me as one of those links that could happen but when we inevitably sign him and inevitably sack our manager he’ll be surplus to requirements and impossibly hard to shift. But like Carrillo.

Would you accept the first offer made for a player??  No one accepts the first offer.

Can't believe all the Alex Crook hating on here. He's an A grade journalist.  He's got friends in every town and village from here to the Sudan, he speaks a dozen languages, knows every local custom, he'll blend in, disappear, you'll never see him again, until he comes up with that exclusive transfer article.

According to the BBC

Southampton are close to agreeing a £7.5m deal for Dinamo Zagreb and Croatia midfielder Mislav Orsic, 30. (Sun)

Southampton are also set to make a move for Racing Club's Argentine midfielder Carlos Alcaraz, 20, in an attempt to bolster their Premier League survival hopes this season. (Telegraph - subscription required)

Which in the circumstances is encouraging

Okay, awesome. That’ll be £30m please.

Those first two sentences had me on the hook. Solid 8/10

I suppose it depends on how much they value the player, how long is left on the players contract, to some extent what the player wants - does he throw his toys out the pram etc.

Even with all that you still wouldn't accept the first offer - except in maybe some edge cases, see Carillo for the perfect example, trying not to laugh your arse off whilst accepting the offer is more the issue.

Another day of nothing happening then?

I'll be incredibly disappointed if we don't have at least one new signing before the next league game after tonight, Everton. That's 10 days.

And if NJ then says they need time to adapt to our style of play then I officially give up.

Nothing really new but from the croatian sports newspaper

 https://sportske.jutarnji.hr/sn/nogomet/hnl/klubovi/dinamo/zadnje-vijesti-s-maksimira-zavrsila-nova-runda-pregovora-dinamo-odbio-posljednji-klub-premiershipa-15292252

Today's negotiations in Maximir, which lasted until the evening, did not end with an agreement, because Dinamo was not satisfied with the offer that arrived from the English address.

Of course, if the Saints decide to bold the offer, then Oršić's departure to the Island can be discussed again. Some of our information says this could happen.
But let’s wait for what the next days will bring. For now, there is no ‘ third luck ‘ when it comes to Oršić's departure to England, after Birmingham, Burnley, he did not make a transfer to Southamtpon either.

Oršić is expected to join Dinamo's preparations in Rovinj soon.

Unless something happens in the meantime, as it happens with transfer jobs.

Maybe Rasmus should threaten Dinamo and tell them they either accept, or Sport Republic will acquire them and make them a smaller team than Goztepe.

But still bigger than 'flagship' Southampton.  Flagship as in the General Belgrano.

I mean 7.5m for a good 30 year old from a minor league is about right? I know we want to buy players but lets not get our pants pulled down in the process. The dangers of the Jan transfer window.

We will get our pants pulled down whoever we sign. There is no getting away from it, everyone can see the shit we are in.

Seems like these sorts of complications may not be restricted to Saints' end of the table:

'Chelsea are set to make a last-ditch attempt to hijack Arsenal's January bid for Shakhtar Donetsk and Ukraine winger Mykhailo Mudryk, despite the Gunners having already agreed personal terms with the 21-year-old. (Sun)' - from the BBC's gossip column

To be honest Ras and Marty have had their pants pulled down so many times over the past year they are essentially the fluffers of English Football. At least the signing of Orsic offers some lube.

I can’t wait for us to be using Goztepe benchwarming loanees to get us out the championship. At least when Watford did the family of clubs they had top division teams so could send themselves good players.

And Everton and West Ham. All for a few million. Could have stolen in and got him. So infuriating.

Dear god.

Do you really believe this pony. That Everton & West Ham weren’t fully aware he was available. Do you think their scouting dept would suddenly say “fuck me, we didn’t know he was open to a move to England “ if we stole in and got him 😂.

That ship sailed years ago.

For everyone's sanity it's probably a good idea to stick DT on ignore for the next 4 weeks.
