Anyone really see the slightest prospect of a decent goalscorer signing for Saints this month? It'd need a whole heap of persuasion and cash to avoid being laughed at. Maybe a loan but even then I'm sceptical.

I’m pretty sure we should have someone coming in pretty quickly who could score us some goals.

Take that Adams chance we had yesterday, and the Salisu free header etc. Someone with an eye for goal would bury those and give a lift to the whole team.

Also bringing Tella on around the 70th mark will give us that second energy we are lacking.

Tick tock!

We are still an attractive proposition for a player who wants to elevate his standing, we are in the premier league for at least another five months. Any aspirational player  from the lower leagues or overseas will see it as a fantastic opportunity.

I think i remember seeing moffi as being on about 20k a week at lorient - if we triple that he'd be here quick smart

Would definitely take Perez, even to just stop him scoring against us.

Soyuncu has been linked with pretty much every big club under the sun over the last year. Milan, Roma, Chelsea, Athletico... But he has been terrible for the last couple of seasons. Maybe his agent is top notch (and it's all bullshit placed stories to drum up interest) or maybe his past form and potential low price are enough to interest that calibre of suitors. He can walk on a free in the summer to ensure he maximises his wages. He might sit tight until then.

Mason Holgate Linked

Appalling player, makes Lyanco look like Bobby Moore. Worrying being linked with potentially expensive mediocre cast offs this early in the month. Odds on Ankersen Inc., are going to fuck this window right up!

I don't think he'd help us, much in the same way as Bednarek wouldn't help us. Similar sort of CB in that he's slow and immobile, stick him in front of our non-existent midfield and expose him and it'll be a horror show.

He is a decent defender if he has protection in front of him and isn't exposed, but we don't have the environment for that. We have bigger priorities though imo.

Southampton boss Nathan Jones: "If you’re an organised football club, you do your recruitment well, well in advance. At my previous club [Luton] we were six months in advance, always looking at windows, always looking at the next level, always looking at pushing boundaries. And here they are exactly the same.

"We have one of the best recruiters in the world in terms of Rasmus Ankersen and Sport Republic in how they do that. So we’ve been really regimented in what we want, we’ve been clear in what we want, what type of player, what position, everything we want.

"We've narrowed that down and we'll be having conversations to try and get those through the door as early as we can because there are certain things we need and we need them quickly. So they are well in advance, any well organised, well run, diligent football club would have already done that weeks and months in advance.

"Obviously it's been difficult for Southampton with the change in manager, only six weeks to restart, but we’ve restarted immediately."

I know that not all our SR summer signings were nippers, but I wonder if their `buy the best affordable talent, even if that means very young and inexperienced' philosophy will continue. Will age and experience be two key criteria for NJ or does `type of player' relate more to their style of play, physical attributes etc.

This is the ultimate test for SR now - they need to get something right, there have been too many weird calls over the last 12 months. You can't deny they're trying things, but we need to see some results now or their investment is dead.

Aribo has been a poor signing so far.

Lavia’s injury record and Bazunu’s form is damaging. Letting Romeu go was another error. Not buying a striker another.

Edozie, Lavia, ABK have been good signings. I have no idea what’s going on with CC.

It’s the collected rubbish in the form of Djenepo, Walcott, Elyounoussi, Lyanco, A. Armstrong and JWP (sorry but he’s been poor) that’s holding us back.

Mostly buying young players isn’t the issue. The issue is not having decent older players to support them. For every exciting young player they sign, the next signing should be one to replace the rubbish above. These don’t have to be expensive.

Gakpo says he was close to joining Leeds but doesn't mention Saints what so ever.

As I thought, we were nowhere near signing him and it was just talk to appease the fans.

Saints are said to have agreed fee and personal terms , probably Leeds had as well , Man U put their oar in and Van Gall told him to hang on . He or his agent had picked Leeds as far as we know . What we know now is he is jumping the stepping stone club and going straight to Liverpool .

Ings on the bench for Villa again. A suggestion of a six-month loan deal for a decent fee has to be worth at least a phone call

Martin Debravka recalled from loan for Newcastle, should be all over this.

Was one of the best keepers in the league a couple of seasons ago but then had a poor run of form after an injury which led to him being in and out the team and Newcastle eventually signing Pope.

Would add some experience to the defence.

I agree, perfect solution for our current situation, but it's going to be hard to twist their arm for a loan. Not really in their best interest. If they sold him they'd have money for a replacement. A loan doesn't really help them, it just leaves their squad thinner. Realistically, it's just not going to happen.

He'd be perfect. But our owners would have to eat a big loan fee, plus an obligation to buy if we were to stay up. I can't see them doing that.

Wondering what the fee might be. He's not getting any younger. £20m feels a lot.

Under Ralph he’d have been perfect. Honestly don’t feel like this style would suit him, a big striker like Wood is needed

Yep think most people recognise that the recruitment under SR has been largely posutive to date. ABK, Lavia and Edozie have all been good signings.

Jurys out on Bazunu but hes young , DCC needs a chance and I think he'll be a good signing and Larios/Mara are both for the future (although have been thrust into action as we left outselves short following the summer window).

Some of the recruitment from previous windows has also been good - KWP, Ings, Livramento, Perraud, Broja etc. Main problem is the two strikers have since left and never been replaced and some of our signings for key positions have failed to deliver - Diallo, Djenepo, Lyanco, Bazunu (so far) and Walcott to name a few.

I think we're two successful windows away from being back to competing for mid-table, although that's obviously dependent on us staying up. Every team makes dud signings, but we need to avoid these being in key positions. You just have to look at the likes of Brighton and Fulham who were relegation threatened a few seasons ago and have recruited really well since (both players and management)

Moffi playing for Lorient now, losing 1-0 to bottom of the league Angers who feature Yan Valery at RB.

Boufal not playing, down as rested in the app I'm looking at.

so hard to assess him. He never touches the ball. I notice that he doesn't just stand still. He does at least look to make runs on the shoulder, but he's never found.

We would need to ship McCarthy and/or Willy out to free up space for this. Cant see their being many takers given their wage demands and lack of gametime. We could always cancel Willy's contract though
