Yeah absolutely, but that’s why it seems weird that anyone would be bidding above the release clause - once the clause is met, it’s then entirely down to the player whether he wants to move or not. The only reason I could think for this is mentioned above, maybe neither club wants to pay in full and therefore are willing to bid above the clause instead so they can pay it via instalments.

If you have a cashflow problem then it is a useful workaround.  You coul always throw some of the early money at the player wages so that he accepts your terms.

Wow I don’t know anything about him but the fact he’s chose us over Everton means he’s a great signing

It’s exactly how it works. It’s more of a eBay ‘buy it now’ rather than Auction.

If a release clause is set at X, if you offer X then the player is free to agree terms with you. Little the selling club can do.

Id expect Marseille have offer 2m more but in instalments rather than a lump sum, which the release fee needs to be paid at.

But if the buy it now clause is X and we offer X the player can speak to you and the club can’t stop it, why does it make any difference if another club offers more? The selling club have to sell to the club that offer the release clause of the player wants to go to them regardless of if they’ve got a higher bid

How about offering players agent a big bonus as a non disclosure deal, so to keep deals quiet

Hello Harry, how's the weather in Sandbanks today ? 😂

On it doesn’t. If we’ve agreed to pay the release clause in full, then we’re free to talk to the player.

It seems in this case, the player just didn’t want to come here.

Fly the new lads straight to Newcastle, they can run straight onto the pitch as soon as they sign on the dotted line

A royal rumble style football match would be amazing. Every 5 minutes each manager picks a player from both squads and they go onto the pitch.

Because an agents job is to look after the best interests of the player. Keeping a deal quiet for a team destine for relegation, to prevent potentially other interest from better clubs isn’t really doing that.. is it.

It also doesn’t stop the selling club from leaking things to get a better price.

By a simple process of elimination the name of the person we sign will be Ayew.

Andy Carroll will be make a late appearance ...

Clubs rarely pay in full. That's why the Gordon to Newcastle was of interest because Newcastle were prepared to pay in full.

They rarely do.  When Abramovich took over Chelsea there was surprise that he was paying for everything up front.

Would you care if it meant the news doesnt come out and have a free run

Bournemouth about to sign striker Opoku according to Sky.

isn’t it obvious, people aren’t letting saints sign a striker as they want us relegated to try and silence the correct views of matt le tiss !!

Weather's better than the traffic, took me nearly 2 1/2 hours to get into work this morning (14 miles).

I don't believe it happens very often that clubs are alerted to a players availability via the news. If the agent wants to let a club know, they will.

So we assuming Sully is the only deal, neigh chance of us signing big Paul and Sully.... is there?

paul has already agreed to join so they are just holding off on a higher price. we asked for a tall striker 6 ft 8 is tall enough

Think our negotiation team could do with learning from the CIA's rendition program.

Grab the player and agent, fly them to an undiscolsed location and make them read MLG's post history until they sign.

More likely to top themselves than sign for a football club at that point.

Pretty sure they'll be actively top themselves reading through that.

Cant find any planes from the following airports scheduled, on the ground or en-route to us or Farnborough.

Vitinha - Porto/Braga/Vigo

Sulemana - Rennes

Maybe someone with actual access might be helpful but spare a thought to the person who has to organise these last minute flights.

There's a private flight from Groningen, so maybe Southampton are going for Ricardo Pepi who they were linked with a year or so ago. Just a guess

Took a look at their forum. More gloom there than here.  Liked one post saying they would be happy if Dyche resigned tomorrow

That could take a while if you included the emoji’s, they’d have to go through a few hundred frowny faces.
