Really like the look of Niclas Fullkrug, the big German centre forward who scored a cracker against Spain last night.  Looks just what we could do with, power, mobile, good first touch and actually scores goals. 29 now, but contract running down at Werder Bremen.  No knowledge of whether Saints have interest, simply a World Cup spot, but would likely give us that Lambert / Pelle focal point.

He was a good shout before he scored at the World Cup, banging them in for a newly promoted Werder Bremen side but currently the biggest two teams in Germany lack a no.9. with Bayern playing Choupa-Moting and Dortmund losing Haller to cancer, considering both like to pick the better players up from the Bundesliga wouldn't be surprised if he ends up there.

Chiesa, Vlahovic and Bremer will do for starters.

"Chiesa picks it up, carries it forward, he beats one, beats a second...a third...brilliant...in to the box, he cuts it back...Armstrong shoots...throw in"

Imagine agreeing personal terms with Gakpo and then not signing him... Woops

Taking the positives, our scouts unearthed a good player...

It seems pretty obvious Gakpo wasn't convinced about signing for us or Leeds. Didn't Van Gaal tell him to aim higher? Seems he was right. He's going to wind up a starter for United or a similar club come January.

Seems like this has worked out perfectly for Gakpo and PSV really, got to say they both played this spot on.

His value has gone through the roof now, so PSV can get even more $$. And Gakpo will have his pick of elite clubs without having to make a middling step to a club like us to get there.

Doesn’t stop that feeling that we had agreed personal terms with a player that would have solved our attacking problems and kept us up no trouble. Missing out was a huge blow but I guess it was always a long shot with bigger clubs and wages in the mix.

I hope we have someone decent lined up to save the day in January.

He was going to pick Leeds ahead of us anyway.

We aren’t changing Gakpo-esque players now.

We’re in the bottom three. We aren’t as much of a pull to many bigger names now as we were four months ago 😂

We are now in the Ashley Barnes/Glenn Murray field of vision

Seems we weren’t much of a pull 4 months ago, as the supposed 2 high profile signings didn’t happen. By January May not be in the relegation zone either.

We’re very different to when Newcastle were in our position last January. They’d actually strung a few results together under Eddie Howe prior to the window, and the players they bought we solid and clearly targeted the areas where their team was weakest at the time. (LB, CB, CM, etc).

I imagine now we’ll go for some semi-established player in the EFL or a child from abroad who has yet to play away from his local school. 😂

What we really need is a Mickey Evans

Ultimately Gakpo did the right thing, listened to van Gaal, focused on his football, has been patient and is now going to get his much bigger move to quite rightly a much bigger club than us 👏🏻

Well deserved!

An alternative reality is....Gakpo signed for us in the summer. Registers 1 goal and 1 assist in 15 games, just makes the Dutch squad for the WC and gets 15 mins off the bench.

This is more likely as if he’d signed for us he’d have spent 3 months hardly playing whilst learning our way then every time he got in an attack position he’d check back or inside. Also notice not a single person has mentioned if he’s any good without the ball, which is the most important thing for our attacking players

Remember when ABK needed to sit out 1 game as he could not possible cater for how we play!

He’s been great all season though so they one extra week made all the difference. Maybe if Adam Armstrong had spent a few months learning how we play rather than coming straight in first game of the season he’d be the new Haaland.

But can he defend corners?

Terem Moffi could be worth a shout. L'Orient are currently 4th in Ligue 1, so he may prefer a push for Europe over a push for the Championship!

I'd take him. Big unit with pace and power and a good finisher. What could possibly go wrong 🙂

Not quite. They went into January sat in 19th place with 11 points from 19 matches. We're sat in 19th place with 12 points from 15 matches and have six more points available before January, which could take us several places higher if all results were to go our way as we're only 2 points adrift at the moment.

The difference being they could offer a significant financial incentive were they to continue their poor form, while we've only got Premier League football to entice players and at the moment that position is looking precarious, but not fatal.

Maybe on loan he would be ok but not overly convinced he is much better than what we have.

Definitely a need in that position but would hope for something better, a player who is a certain starter.

Has done nothing at Newcastle and was spineless in the way he left Bournemouth, after what they gave him.

Sadly he's the sort of has/never been that we always seem to end up with these days. I hope it is a lazy journalist link perhaps because he has south coast links and they know we need a striker. What we don't want now or ever is another striker who is more or less permanently on strike.

Whatever anyone thinks of Ryan Fraser and whatever happen with him, he is categorically not the "sort of player we always end up with these days".

He's absolutely nothing like the kind of player we sign.

He's not a striker. He's an attacking midfielder or winger.

Forest signing their 5,627,828 player of the season in Gustavo Scarpo.

Never heard of him.

Why are they still signing players? Not that it bothers me given that we're competing with them, but surely they have enough now and it's about integrating them all into a 'team'.

Imagine is you were in the first million players that they’d signed this season.

You’d have to be wondering by now where your place is in the team 👀

Where will Bellingham end up? City or Liverpool?

OR, do we start the rumour on here that we’ve had a cheeky bid for him turned down and then the bed wetters can throw their toys out the pram when he does get the move to a bigger club…? 🤣

According to my Liverpool supporting mate their forums are going mental claiming it’s a done deal he’s going there because he’s great mates with “hendo” and “Trent” let’s hope it’s not true

Can't see Liverpool stumping up that huge fee while the club is up for sale. Plus would ruin their 'rep' as not spending their way to the top like the other mobs!

Apart from signing the worlds most expensive goalkeeper, world's most expensive defender under Klopp through to £80m (?) for Nunez.

Just another one of their moans when they can't match City

In Matheus news, looks like Wolves are signing Matheus Cunha from Atletico Madrid. Along with 33yo CB Felipe. Cunha looks a decent signing. Patiently waiting for some Saints links that aren’t Ryan Fraser…

Would be a very decent signing. Cracking player.
