JWP will be the first out of the door, I'd actually guarentee you that the club are banking on the fee they get for him to cover any shortfall from relegation. The club will ensure we get a good fee for him, there is absolutley no situation he stays if we go down, not a hope in hell.

I’m not so sure. There are parachute payments and I’m sure the players contracts have relegation clauses in them. He is a Saints man through and through. Yes, he might leave, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see him stay and try and get us back up.

Yeah no way JWP in the peak of his powers is playing Championship football. He’s loyal but is anyone that loyal these days?

I wondered if they might loan him somewhere with an agreed fee and a clause for if we come back up in one season. Agree he won’t be playing in the championship and nor should he.

JWP is a very good club man and a very decent player.

He is on £100k a week. Top earner for Saints but nowhere near what other players in the Premiership are getting.

Even on half salary, which (hopefully) is written into all contracts in case of relegation, he would be a top earner in the Championship.

It is a fact of life that our best players will lose value in the Championship and that means that JWP, KWP, Lavia, possibly Salisu and Bella Kotcha will attract decent bids from other clubs which will provide revenue for the club and allow the players to maintain current earning power plus a signing on fee to benefit themselves and their agents.

That's the problem. We put in a low offer, which gets rejected. Rather than immediately up the offer, we just leave it on the table thinking they will take it on deadline day. In the meantime, another club come in, offer an acceptable price and get the deal done. We are not the only club out there. We must know what they want for him. Then come in just below that, offer it, see if it is accepted. If not, offer the asking price. Hope we stop trying to get a cut price deal. Instead, we need to get the players we want. January doesn't lend itself to bargains.

It’s happening!!

We can confirm that striker Cameron Jerome has today left Luton Town Football Club for personal reasons, with his contract cancelled by mutual agreement.

Thank you and good luck to you and your family for the future, Cam! 🤝

Ex Goztepe legend (8 in 50 - prolific) so played at a higher level than Saints, would be an insane signing.

It's going to London City. All stand down. Still on the ground at Brussels. Probably a Eurocrat.

Took off at 1315 and destination has changed to Southampton ETA 1410z blue/white Cessna 525 citation CJ4 OO-LXA If anyone is at the airport. I'm off to the Potters Heron, here's hoping.

he's signing for Bolton, I think.

I assume it's too late to go back to the Argentinian well? To me, that seems to be the ideal market for us in terms of talent to cost ratio. Argentinian league has no money, lots of young players that are skillful but with a bit of bite and a season or more in senior football. Now we have one, why not three?

It doesn't look like its going to Southampton. It's just passing over Southend and heading towards London City descending.

It is still descending but has passed LCY and heading our way still descending.

🚨 Southampton have returned with a €20million offer for Rennes attacker Kamaldeen Sulemana (20) – the French club would now be ‘more likely’ to sanction a sale #saintsfc @lequipe

Jones made it pretty clear a week or so ago that an attacker (winger) was more likely than a striker, so since then I've not expected us to sign a striker, but I did think we would sign Jackson. With that transfer blowing up, should we manage to bring in the next option, I could live with that - what choice do fans ever have?

Yes, we need a striker, but a winger that can create, won't do us any harm. I'm also wondering whether Mara might be the one to take these extra chances the likes of Sulemana might provide. Any attacking talent added would be good.

Obviously I want an attacker but there is a tiny part of me that would enjoy seeing us not get one just to see how the club try to spin it.

you wrote `attacker' not striker. Does that mean you'd be happy with a guy like Kamaldeen Sulemana or does it need to be a Che replacement/partner?

The lad that was on loan but going back to boca juniors looked pretty good to me.

I don't think we can really be fussy now and it seems that the club are intent on not getting a striker for some reason that I don't understand. Under the circumstances I'd be happier that we'd at least got somebody in at this late stage but if we really had any sense we'd get Antonio in and Sulemana. I don't see how Sulemana is going to solve the problem of Che's woeful finishing but I accept that given our current position we really aren't going to be able to get much in now.

Bielsa wanted to take charge of Everton's u21 team and train them up for a championship battle next season.

bold GIF

That would be amazing if we'd done that. Accept relegation now and then absolutely smash the championship next year.

Looks like ATC is taking it around to land to the north due northerly wind right over the stadium. over Lymington now.

I know that he has to say something, but does he honestly believe this? And more importantly, how does he expect us to believe it? If the club aren't in a panic yet about forward signings, when will they be?

What do you want him to say? “I’m fucking shiting myself as are the club that we won’t get an attacking player in before the window closes!!”

And if nobody arrives after he’s said we are desperate for a new striker as our lot are complete pony….. might be tough to up the confidence levels of Che et al..

True, but given 30,000 or so fans have been saying that for nearly 2 years .....

Its just the same shit Ralph said in the last window. If SR hadn't fucked that up, am sure this season would have looked totally different

I think he might want:

"Yeah, we are clearly in panic mode now, as time is running out and we have not managed sign the forward we want yet. The question has been, do we throw more money we don't have at the problem or go for a player we are not convinced about? The players we have are clearly not good enough, hence we have lost so many games over the last year. I'm in agreement with the folks on Saintsweb forum, if we don't bring in a striker I don't think we will stay up."
