I wish we had them to save our season etc. While at the same time, without any hint of self awareness whatsoever, also go on and on about how shit Armstrong and Adams are for us.

Antonio is 33 in March so I don’t think he has the rest of season in him let alone a few years. westham fans think his legs have gone and as a player that relied on pace over scoring / finishing ability to add value then I think this is a poor signing. He is the reason West Ham are in trouble and you want him to fire us to safety? let’s hope our target list still has a few options on it before we get down to hoping he will save our season.
Pilchards Posted 27 January, 2023 Share Posted 27 January, 2023 Blimey what’s the catch in wanting him other than being the fastest at the World Cup? Sulemana has so far endured a frustrating season, as while he has featured 19 times across the campaign for Rennes he has only been limited to one goal and two assists. However he has only played a cumulative five games across those appearances - with just 492 minutes of game time having had problems with his knee and ankle. It is not his fault he has no goal scorer. Tbf, it looks like he is trying something new with JWP which has resulted in his best goal scoring run. Plus he should have had one against Villa. I just think it would take any manager about 6 months to make a difference. We might not have that to play with but that isn’t his fault. I just think personal stuff makes us look like petulant kids. Not a problem mate. Maybe a tad harsh of me. Apologies to those above that think that was a bit much. The point I was trying to make is that now day it’s all about pulling power and money. Something Sport Republic should’ve been considering when thinking ahead to this transfer window. Villa got an upgrade on Gerrard. Everton I’m sure will get an upgrade on Lampard. Wolves got an upgrade on their old manager (who’s name escapes me). Would I call Jones an upgrade on Ralph? Nope. No I wouldn’t. All he is is fresh compared to Ralph who looked burnt out. But when you’re bottom of the league you need to pay out, make a statement and promise some funds to correct this seasons errors. SR, and Rasmus Ankersen have made some poor decisions in the last six-eight months which may well cost as our Premier League status. It just seems very short-sighted of SR to have not thought about this prior to the window. At least Rasmus has said he’s completely owning this transfer window, makes you wonder who was owning the last one.
Wade Garrett Posted 27 January, 2023 Share Posted 27 January, 2023 We signed Ings on the last day of the window. Need that sort of deal now. We’re bottom of the league. We need to gamble. Would much rather sign a centre forward rather than a winger. A decent winger will just create chances for our forwards to miss. What an absolute fucking shambles.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 27 January, 2023 Share Posted 27 January, 2023 While it's very tempting to criticise SR for their failure to address our glaring problem during the last - and probably this - transfer window, perhaps we have to face up to the fact we cannot now compete financially with the rest of the PL. When the likes of Bournemouth can gazump us, seemingly with impunity, then the sooner we wake up to the fact that our owner is just not wealthy enough, then the better it will be for all our sanity. It's a sad indictment that bloodstained Arab petro dinars and US Hedge fund dollars have distorted our game beyond repair - it's no longer a sport in the old-fashioned sense of the word, and frankly we have done pretty well, up to now, to even stay in the top flight. Do I wish we had been taken over by a despot billionaire? To be honest, although it would be fun to upset some apple carts I think I can honestly say "no thanks". I would take little pleasure by doing a Newcastle, to me they are no longer a football club just a means for some murderous sheik to sportswash in an attempt to win a smidgeon of respectability, while the British media, led by Martin Tyler and Sky swoon on sycophantically. Nah, I'll settle for a life in the Championship (or even lower) where the football might be rugged and basic but you can still smell the liniment, the dubbin and the fried onions. 25

Looking back ....to the JPT final when Antonio scored for us, whilst on loan from Reading (!) it all went pear-shaped when Nicola Cortese subsequently refused to sanction his purchase - because of Reading's 2 million price tag. This was plain madness when you consider how subsequent clubs invested and benefitted when they bought him. (Cortese previously questioned Alan Pardew's judgement when he wanted to spend ONE million on a 26 year old, L1 striker... named Lambert (!) For all the plaudits he got for organising the administration at the club, Cortese almost bankrupted us a second time when almost every purchase he made, was on borrowed money and engineered via his European cronies, and proved to be expensive disasters; like (example) Osvaldo and Ramirez who together cost over 25 million - without even calculating their salaries after being given 4 year contracts. In our present situation, (with other players refusing to sign for us after looking at the Prem. table), we could do worse than sign Antonio . Over the next c.5 years it wouldn't surprise me if we evolve into another QPR/Reading/Stoke/West Brom/Middlesboro kinda club.... i.e. spending most of our time as a mid-table Championship side, occasionally flirting with promotion in good years and likewise relegation in not so good years.
