January 2023 Transfer Window

I wonder what people expect from this window. Saints have been bottom of the league for weeks now. What would be the attraction for anyone decent to want to join us? Money? That's about it really.

The real problem was in not getting a new manager and signings in the summer.

Signing a striker in the summer, and I don’t think Ralph would have lost his job. 1 big fuck up was not signing a striker in the summer, the next big fuck up was not having one on the 1st Jan, now it feels it’s too much too late having lost all the games we have under Jones.

Obafemi to Burnley for £3m. We had a sell-on clause. We might get £300k, which may prove the difference between us not getting a centre forward and not getting a centre forward.

Yeah. If we are shopping in League 2 I guess. Having said that, I wouldn't put it past us

Which is why I'm suggesting we need to lower our sights. We aren't going to get in what we wanted at this stage, we need to get someone in who is better than Adams and Armstrong and maybe someone from the championship has a chance of being that person. I still think we might get a last minute loan of a winger from a bigger club but that's about it.

The "next" priority ??

I for one am so relieved to have such highly intelligent and forward thinking minds running our Club.

I mean I've only been watching football and particularly Saints for the last forty or so years of my life, and only ever played the game to a shitty Southern League standard, so obviously I have absolutely no idea about the game. I'd imagine it's the same for most of us know-nothing moronic fuckwits the Club have to put up with for supporters.

If it were not for these insightful visionaries we have looking after us, we'd never have known that signing a Championship standard back up right back was such a high priority. We're lucky to have them. Imagine thinking that signing the clinical striker we all thought we've desperately needed for the last two years was more urgent than that!

Equally important that we have someone with the footballing reputation and gravitas of Nathan Jones to keep us deluded cunts on the mental straight and narrow. Fortunately he's been able to completely put our minds at rest, in so kindly informing us that we actually already have great strikers at the Club  who are giving him everything. Everything except goals, of course. But what do we need those for anyway?

I feel like such a fucking idiot for ever doubting the Club.

Probably nothing, but currently staying at the Leonardo (ex Jurys Inn) just got in the lift with a guy kitted out in saints gear and kit bag. Long hair in a pony tail,  headphones on. Initials on the kit HO…realise this is probably a random club employee but maybe a striker….?

Maybe he helps the women's team release stress 😂

We obviously have been trying to get an attacker in (for some reason we want a winger who can play in multiple positions rather than a striker.) We have to be realistic now about what we can get in and who will come.

This is going to deadline day isn't it. I expect the club are getting quite nervous and a little desperate. Maybe the best option would be someone from the championship who would probably be happy to sign under the circumstances.

I’ve accepted that we aren’t getting anyone it’s easier that way.

We need as much money as we can get in the "we will spend it but only on the right player, if the conditions are right and we won't be held to ransom" kitty.

I was convinced we were getting someone in the summer judging by Ralph's comments. I was pretty confident we would get an attacker in early in the window. I was sure we would sort something prior to the Everton game. I still think we will get someone by the end of January but like you say, it's not like we don't know what to expect.

I think that it's fair to say that Ralph was convinced we were getting someone in the Summer.....

“Saints struggling to attract big-name striker due to their league position”

Well what an absolute fucking shock, not.
Maybe if they’d invested in this position in the summer when it needed addressing, we’d actually be attracting bigger players already, potentially be higher up the table and possibly looking to push on to higher achievements, i.e. European qualification (which lets face it, this season could go anywhere).

Cracking cash saving, SR

Brentford getting Djed Spence. We got someone who refers to the manager as ‘gaffer’. We may have the only ‘gaffer’ in the premier league. Gaffers tend to be lower leagues. Which looks to be where we are heading. I miss cheese jokes.

Can’t say I’m bothered about Djed Spence. Has an attitude on him, hardly a surprise he hasn’t got in ahead of a poor Emerson Royal or Matt Doherty, and Spurs now haggling for Porro(?), another RB, from Sporting Lisbon.

Be thankful.

I remember a certain January, record-signing referring to the manager he followed here as "The Master"!

Not sure if he’s been mentioned but Antonio is open to leaving West Ham in search of game time. He’d be a short term option but should be pretty cheap. He’s got a good goal scoring record and has the physical attributes that should appeal to Jones. I’d happily get him in and another young prospect if we have the money to go alongside.

I'd get him and maybe we could afford a winger we seem so desperate to get as well. Worst case scenario he would do a job in the championship next year.

Think this one might happen?

I have no idea… supposedly we bid… Lecce said he wasn’t for sale… (then they named a price).  Then a recent report said he was keen.

So, it’s got the ingredients.  I’m just surprised it went quiet all of a sudden.

I doubt we will sign another midfielder now that Alcaraz has started well and Diallo has had a couple of slightly better games. Unless it was someone who would come into the starting XI then its kind of pointless as we have AMN kicking about too.

Surely we will sign some kind of attacker....surely? They may say there is no point in signing someone unless they are better than what we have but it almost feels like they have to regardless just to show willing. Would be a terrible look if we literally spent £5m on Orsic and watch others improve their attack with big money deals (Cunha - £50m, Rutter - £35m, Ouattara - £20m to name a few).

The likes of Wolves, Leeds and potentially Bmth look set to record mega spend this January, unprecedented level really for bottom half sides. Wolves could be close to £100m and Leeds over £70m if they get McKennie.

There’s a significant risk that we do feel obliged, and overpay for a player who is 6th/7th choice and nowhere near the requisite level. We really have managed the last two windows appallingly to not rectify the key positions of GK or CF (yet, in fairness - ever hopeful….).

We would have ended up with Ched Spence.
