I can also remember when we signed Graziano Pelle because of Ronald Koeman.

Not sure why signing a cheap cover player who the manager knows the attributes and personality of is being seen as such a bad thing. Unless of course you are looking for any possible reason to slag that manager.

If Bree comes in, starts every game and is awful then of course criticise. But he is clearly being brought in aa cover due to Livramento being injured and iur huge reliance on KWP.

I’ve watched him play.

He was at Aston Villa when they were a shambles in the championship. He was utter shit there. To compare him with Pelle is apples & oranges.

I think the club deserves to be slated for buying cheap, instead of spending big and strengthening. We are bottom of the league ffs.

We could have signed an exciting left back that can play both sides as cover as NJ clearly doesn’t rate Perraud. But instead we have signed a donkey for £750k. Peak saints

I think we should play a game - the next time a new link crops up we should race to see who can say "he's shit, not the answer and my mate watches him regularly and he agrees" first.  No cash prize, it's just for fun.

Urgh, this is one of the more depressing windows, isn't it?

Normally, I think that I would have thought it was a decent window with the signings that we have made, but the continuing lack of signing a "prolific" striker coupled with the seeming "being out bid for everyone" issue is grinding the gears....

I’m ok with the bree deal actually.. jones hasn’t been trusting perraud so at least gives us a chance to play two fullbacks and most importantly it’s only a small fee that won’t eat into our striker kitty so who cares on this really..

I have a feeling we might go back in for onuachu from genk

Thoughts on Bree from a friend of mine who is a long-term STH at Kenilworth Road...  Every now and then he'll create a goal from a cross. He's decent but not PL.

He can't really know that until he has a chance to prove himself.

Surely if you are going to replace Perraud and switch KWP over to the left, we could have done better than a right back from Luton? This just screams to me that the club have accepted relegation and the process of rebuilding for next season is underway

Seems a bit strange to not just buy a starting left back and play KWP in his best position, and buy a RB in the summer when KWP inevitably leaves.

Yeah,  I thought Alcarez was pretty good against Newcastle.  Orsic didn't do much but too early to judge that and on paper looks a decent signing.  Bree kind of makes sense and I'll judge him when I've seen him.  As you say, it's the striker that's the problem and outside of Beto there hasn't even been that many names that seem at first look to get excited over either.

Maybe we havent got enough cash for a starting full back and a striker in January. Maybe they have a target left back that wont be available until the summer. Maybe it will be significantly cheaper for a LB in the summer. There are plenty of reasons why a cheap short term cover option is better and i guess the point is none of us know the thinking of the club  behind the scenes.

I guess they're hoping Tino might be in the frame for next season. Although, with him being on crutches that might have changed the thinking.

Maybe, but it would have eaten a lot more out of our budget that everyone here is saying we should be using on a striker. I'd have preferred a LB but KWP can play their and we have no other fit natural RB so it makes sense. He's cheap, low risk cover. For the post above that said he was crap at Villa, that was 4 years ago when he was only 20/21. Quite feasible he has improved since then. I think we should be sending AMN back to Arsenal if we can.

Am not even sure there is any thinking at the club behind the scenes anymore. This season has been an utter shitshow for so many reasons.

Sport Republic (Rasmussen) and Saints (Semmens & Crocker) squad planning has been abysmal.

I sometime wonder if this is one of the reasons Crocker is moving on.  Do Sports Republic think he was responsible for the mess and he was pushed out or has he had enough of the mess Sports Republic have made and decided to move on?

We are half way through a season and nearly at the end of the January transfer window and we still have massive gaps in the squad at left back, centre forward, defensive midfield and until today right back - which is why we are where we are at the bottom of the premier league.

Bree looks like a short term and cheap panic buy - based on the managers recommendation rather than the recruitment teams scouting or analysis.  I fully expect one if not both of KWP and Tino to leave in the summer (Chelski can activate the buy back clause in the Summer).  Bree doesn't solve our height problem at the back either.

We still need a left back to cover for Perraud - or replace him as Jones doesn't seem to rate him - and provide some height at the back.  Moving KWP to the left and playing Bree on the right is not the answer.

Not to mention a goal scoring forward and a CDM.

I am starting to think it was the other DoF at Brentford and not Rasmussen that was responsible for there success.

I thought Orsic couldn't influence the game because he didn't have an attacking full back to support him. He was isolated out on the left

That's right, but probably a better analogy would be Paul Telfer or indeed Lee Todd.  Pelle is clearly a different kettle of fish, as is Koeman.

Telfer was ok wasn't he? (Or am I thinking back to the WGS days through rose-tinted specs given the current shit show?)

It looks like they've got Eric Morecambe and we're left with Ernie Wise.

Tino situation is getting quite concerning.

Sure this the whole point of signing Bree. Clearly since NJ arrived the situation with Tino has got worse. I would suggest they think it unlikely now that Tino will play any significant part this season. Therefore with only 2 specialist FBs in the squad (ignoring Vokins and accepting AMN does not want to play there) we need some cover, not a starter, someone who can do a job. Jones knows Bree and trusts him and fee is minimal, sounds like a good idea all round. Has no impact on the signing of a striker.
