Dusic Posted 28 August, 2022 Share Posted 28 August, 2022 Sounded from TV like there is some sort of disease in the grass which I am sure is a nightmare to resolve, but the pitch looked (and played) awful yesterday and Im sure is much worse close up. Wonder how long it will take to sort out?
eurosaint Posted 28 August, 2022 Share Posted 28 August, 2022 I was there and never noticed any problems, the pitch actually looked fine to me ! Only heard about it later and was a bay surprised 😃

Sarisbury Saint Posted 28 August, 2022 Share Posted 28 August, 2022 Some players were clearly struggling to control it with their feet and decided to use their hands instead. 1

Ken Tone Posted 28 August, 2022 Share Posted 28 August, 2022 It did look threadbare..... bare earth showing through.... as if it had been played on a lot recently. The sort of thing you see when a club shares its ground with a rugby team.

It looked like it, but at half time they showed close ups of it, the grass is mostly still there but just looked almost dead. The pitch also looked quite hard and bobbly to me, not sure how much they’re watering it while treating the fungus/rot.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 28 August, 2022 Share Posted 28 August, 2022 One thing I noticed was a few times Saints players slipping over - I thought it likely this was due to the absolute soaking the grass received before the game. Not sure why but didn’t notice the same for the Manure players.

I think that's been happening for quite a few years now, the opposition always seem to be better prepared than us.
skintsaint Posted 28 August, 2022 Share Posted 28 August, 2022 (edited) Not much recovery time for the grass before Tuesdays game either - could look worse! Edited 28 August, 2022 by skintsaint

S-Clarke Posted 30 August, 2022 Share Posted 30 August, 2022 It didn't play very well tonight, looks like a pitch you see at the end of a season. I do think the problem is that we haven't been able to replace it for 2 years though, so it's probably going to be a case of babysitting it this year until we have a big enough gap to rip it up. Saint_lambden Posted 30 August, 2022 Share Posted 30 August, 2022 On Solent they said that it’s some sort of disease that has come from treatment they’ve used on the pitch recently. The club are hoping to resolve it more permanently during the break in home games between Brentford on 10th Sept and Everton on 1st Oct.
