Obviously we will all watch the Chelsea game tonight, but my IPTV provider just announced that the EFL Trophy games will be televised. First one is tonight against Forest Green Rovers.

Good news, my mate who is a Chelsea fan reckons he's their most important player.

I'm expecting something along the lines of:

Bazanu, KWP, Lyanco, Salisu, Moussa, Romeu, Jwp, Lavia, Aribo, SArmstrong, Che

It’s almost win/win tonight, if we win we win, if we lose it’ll force the club to bring in the players we need. I just hope that if we win the club doesn’t suddenly think we’re ok for the campaign with the players we have, because we aren’t. Although there is the January window…

Indeed. If I was Ralph I'd probably aim for another 0-9, just to ram the message well and truly home.

Now known as the "Scotty Parker". He should probably say they're useless too, just for the full effect.

Mount to score, obviously.

I was relieved he was subbed when they were 6-0 up at St Mary's in April. The rest of the Chelsea team were content to take it easy for the final half hour and didn't seem bothered about breaking the 9-0 record  but he would have gone all out for more goals.

Ah yes, the classic failsafe “Get dry bummed by Chelsea 24 hrs before the window closes” transfer strategy….. #WinWin

Surely we will be better than this game last season.  They absolutely battered us and 6-0 was generous to Saints

From the BBC

We have an unprecedented opportunity to extend the worst conceding streak in the history of the competition on the day of the week where we have the lowest chance of winning the game and where we can extend our worst record in 2022 further. The stars truly are aligning for us tonight. So I predict 2-0 to Saints.

-----------------------------

Head-to-head

  • Chelsea have scored in each of their last 17 Premier League away games against Southampton - the longest scoring streak one team has had against another away from home in the history of the competition.
  • Ralph Hasenhuttl's only win in seven meetings with Thomas Tuchel (D1, L5) was a 1-0 victory for RB Leipzig against Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga in September 2016.

Southampton

  • They have won just three of their last 20 top-flight fixtures in midweek (D7, L10).
  • The Hampshire club have a 21% win rate in Premier League games on Tuesdays, lower than than on any other day of the week.
  • Southampton have lost 11 league matches since the start of March, more than any other side in the English top flight.
