TV series about Saints...

Looking through Netflix/Prime etc. it seems most top flight clubs have a behind the scenes documentary about them.

I've seen ones on Arsenal, Spurs, City, United, Palace, Leeds, and West Ham to name a few. Even the likes of Sunderland have one.

When will there finally be one on Saints? I remember in the early 2000's there was a programme at about 8am every Saturday on Sky Sports with interviews with Rupert Lowe and other behind the scenes footage of the club shop and training ground. An example of Lowe's vision for the club being ahead of its time?

They're all shite imo and ours would be even worse. Semmens and Ralph blowing their own trumpets for 10 hours of tele hardly sounds appealing to me.

Sunderland's one was the best because it was honest about what a complete fucking mess they were at the time. Was almost like an Office spin-off at points.

I think it would have been a decent watch if we had one during the L1/Champ promotion years, those sorts of scenario's gain interest as it's a feel good story. Ditto for the opposite, a slide to oblivion (like Sunderland) is also something that would gain interest.

A documentary on us, at the moment, as a non-entity of a PL team wouldn't really generate any interest what so ever. Just us fans.

Just started the Welcome to Wrexham (Ryan Renyolds/Rob Mcillhenny) takeover and must say its pretty interesting.

One thing I laughed about is Les Reed is a consultant (amongst others) to the board.

There’s a decent series going at the moment about Palace, it only focuses on their academy system and each series follows the fortunes of a few kids. It’s quite interesting and a decent watch.

It’s really good. Seen the first two, the first one with the 3 12 year old lads was really good and they all seemed like really nice lads. Pleased the young keeper got his contract too.

Enjoyed all of them, though I agree it would be a perfect avenue for Semmens to trumpet how amazing he is and it’ll be non-stop woke/inclusivity virtue signalling from start to finish if it was us.

semmens going on about how big the womens team is going to be, interviews with rainbow saints, spotlight section in the media team talking about how they’re celebrating pride, the new security officer slapping himself on the back about how he’s fixed the problem with the vile scum in the itchen north, the celebration party when we got joint 3rd place in the sustainability table. Tasting session of the new range of vegan foodstuff. it’ll be the perfect platform to demonstrate how a modern club should be.

I watched the Sunderland one as mentioned it was a car crash and decent entertainment when in lockdown. Not sure I could be arsed to watched one about Palace for example, like us, just living life as one of the others.

I've seen them all, most are terrible, best one I've seen was on Disney and featured feyenoord under advocaat. Felt sorry for him by the end.

I think I would implode watching that.

The best football documentaries aren't the big, glossy Netflix ones, they're the ones that show complete car crashes from the inside. Some great ones if you haven't seen them:

'Chester City - An American Dream': An American called Terry Smith, who had no experience of football, bought Chester City, decided he could do a better job than everyone worked there and ultimately made himself manager, with predictably disastrous results.

'Orient - Club for a Fiver' - Featuring possibly the most famous and hilarious half-time team bollocking in history, where the manager offered to fight all his players:

Plus of course 'An Impossible Job', the one about Graham Taylor's time in charge of England:

A fly on the wall documentary about our kit selection might have been revealing. Perhaps next season the club should simply sponsor 'Sewing Bee' to see what unconventional but imaginative and random designs they can come up with (may be a tribute to the flock wallpaper designs in 1970's Southampton pubs).

What is it called and what channel? Heard a few ppl mention this.

Channel 4 it’s called football dreams. Think it’s currently at episode 3 of 6. Another good one to watch is One shot The football factory that’s on sky and all available now on demand

Fucking hell, “Southampton all or nothing” will be as boring as the last series of Line of duty. Bunch of son-in-laws mince about, top brass embrace wokery, and noddy fans wave their half and half scarves.

Its a no from me.

You're a real ray of sunshine aren't you?

Can you imagine Corteses ego if a documentary had been made then? He’s have been the star of the show and would have been an absolute nightmare for any producer to work with

Apart from anything else the all bit of the title would really suit us would it? Southampton mediocrity or nothing is probably more appropriate

Great list.

Would also add this one about Barry Fry at Peterborough.

Some incredible moments, including Fry (upon completing a transfer) hitting a comedy gavel and exclaiming "Sold to the fat bastard in the blue blazer!" 😆

Remember that dreadful show during the 2002/2003 season, called 'The Club' about the Saints.  It was only shown in the South region and was hilarious.  I remember they dedicated about 15 minutes to Matt Oakley's tropical fish collection.

and who remembers that young female Saints fan in the very early 80's on Jim'll fixit it getting her wishes to meet all the players (Keegan etc) and be a mascot

Think we had an hour long special in the Pochettino days if I'm remembering right? It was an NBC sports one back when the Americans really liked us.

It was when we had Kruger I 'think'. One of his daft pushes to try and make us relevant in the states, opening up satellite academies in the summer, doing pre-season out there etc. We went out and did some things with Under Armour too, really trying to raise our profile.

I don't think we quite took over Man Utd's states reach though, it was close.
