This, but swap Elyounoussi for Stu Armstrong, please.  Does Moi start because he offers more defensive cover do we think?  He certainly doesn't offer more going forward.

I think so.  No idea of stats but Armstrong seems to give the ball away much more than Elyounoussi, but that might be eyes playing tricks on me. He works hard, and thought he had a decent enough game at Leicester, and was involved with the second goal.  I don't have a problem with him starting, but I'd like to see us upgrade on both personally.

There are better ways to go about asking for things like this  tbh.

Also, your vote didn't offer a combined build up and match thread, with a seperate reaction thread.... Dissapointing from you imo 🤔,  especially as that would be a logical enough approach and my preference (if we were having seperate threads 😒) -  this is just another sham democracy in which the people are not actually represented 😪

Back to the point -  united are there for the taking and our confidence should be up.... I actually think it favours us that they beat Liverpool as we would certainly have got a crisis reaction otherwise... But they also have a good record against us and always seem to turn up at SMS lately. I would like to see us go at them, not let them settle, and get at least an early goal -  keep them on the back foot and hopefully they'll disintegrate again -  vociferous fan support required.

Reckon we'll get a 2-1, but knowing us a 2-2 is just as likely. I don't think we should be losing this.

Not my vote, it's lighthouses vote.

Disappointing from you to target me, I just stated what I would like. Others agree and some diagree.

Do you want to cut-and-paste and direct it to lighthouse now?

You've got to hope it'll be a case of after the lord mayors show for Man Utd.

They got themselves up for the Liverpool game, but they have a bunch of horrible complacent players who could easily forget to turn up against little old Southampton.

I am telling myself that the Man U we have seen over recent seasons seem to turn up against the big clubs but fall off a cliff when they are up against the lower teams. I am hoping they revert to type on Saturday at lunchtime.

I'm hoping that scoring against Liverpool wont galvanise the likes of Rashford

Also I hope they come in thinking we are the easy turn over and get a shock that wakes them out of complacency

I think if we hit them hard, on the break and hold out until half time, then up the tempo we could catch them on the hop.

This is a strange one for me, us with a lot of new talent getting used to our system, and them failing to ignite.

Lets hope, though.  They are always I team I like to turn over.

There is absolutely no need to have 3 different threads for 1 game.  It will just clog up the board and mean different comments are all over the place.  Unless (as you say) mods are on hand to create/close threads and set up a MoM poll straight away.

Daft idea.

The title gets changed as the thread progresses.

Why cant the build up, match thread get locked when it's purpose is complete?

Same amount of effort and still achieved the goal of only having one thread live at a time. The previous will soon disappear through time.

The downsides never happened before, so it isn't like its a new element to us.

Why is what we previously did previously a Daft idea, when it wasn't daft at the time?

Assuming you're not putting yourself forward to do so, why should someone else be expected to do it just so you don't have to scroll a bit?

I don't have to do the admin, and don't give a monkeys whether we have 1 or more threads per match, but it's a bit diva ish imo to start a match thread telling us what we can and can't use it for, with the expectation that there's a change of format and that someone else switches threads on and off to facilitate it.

Looking forward to seeing where we are as far as a squad after the Leeds/Leicester reactions… we simply cannot afford to ‘react’ after being a goal down we need to be up for it from the get go

Utd will be bouyant after their win on Monday, so lets hope it turns into complacency

We simply have to start Che Adams. He is not only in form but integral to our build up play, other than that I wouldn’t be looking to change too much from Saturday

—- ———Bazunu—————-

KWP - ABK - Salisu - Djenepo

———--Lavia —- JWP———

—Aribo——————-S Armstrong

——-Che Adams—-Mara———-

Potentially play Ely infront of Djenepo… I know he doesn’t add a lot offensively and he is a bit boring but what he does is offers an effective aid on the left side in front of a weak LB and until we have a LB that we can rely on defensively

I doubt Utd will be complacent - probably just the opposite. Ten Hag will insist they come out all guns blazing so we'll have to match that intensity if we are to give ourselves the optimum chance of securing a win. They did fade against Liverpool and it wasn't all dazzling brilliance so there should be something in this game for us if we're on it from the start.

That's fine, i am content for you to criticise Lighthouse and get the message across 😙

Looks like the vote options have been updated midway through voting?

It was very passive aggressive indeed.

And, despite many people watching the game via a stream these days, it still happens! During the Leeds game I remember someone got very shirty about all of the negative comments in the first half and came out with “it must be very different actually down here at the ground rather than for those who can’t even be bothered to leave their own house”.

That could quite possibly have been me, as I don’t go much anymore I need to do the I’m a better fan than you routine more aggressively than ever

Voted for all in 1 thread as it's easy to work out where we are in the lifecycle within like 5secs.

Here's a quick guide.

1. Anxiety phase - Lots of formation and line up chat and the other team are world beaters = Match build up.

2. Kneejerk reactions -Lots of FFS, he's useless and Ralph out comments =Match thread.

3. Hindsight mastery phase - We got lucky, other team shit, Ralph still useless, we need to buy more players = Post Match Thread

Aaargh!

That was just to waste one of my three daily posts.

Keep it all in one thread, as I'm able to scroll and the number of pages tends to give an indication of how matters have progressed. If the mods are around perhaps they could update the thread title with the score so I can get my 'oh sh*t' or my little dance round the room over with quickly before doing a quick check of Convict Colony's Theory..

I like to print all the match threads and file away so a lot easier for me to be in one thread. Might even do some housekeeping and reorganise so all related to the same game rather than different build up. Post match threads. Surely I am not alone?

Cracking build up thread, obviously infiltrated by Ralph luvies as I have not seen much discussion on the game or the genetic Ralph hasn’t got a clue posts.  If it’s allowed I’d like to comment on the game, whatever their recent form and obvious internal problems Utd are full of quality.  We are more than capable of matching their intensity combine this with some clever winding up of a couple of their prima donnas and we have a very good chance.

It's nice (and a bit disconcerting) to see some optimism leading up to this game but sadly, for me, to be fair 1-3

If we can keep them out for the first 15 mins, and get on the ball, we have a chance.  What we cannot do is start like the other games, assuming United play anything close to what they did the other night.

My team.....

Bazunu

KwP ABK Salisu Djenepo

Jwp S.Armstrong Lavia

Aribo Adams A.Armstrong

Lazy work shy mods. Wouldn’t be surprised if you lot went on strike demanding to be taken to somewhere better than the corriander lounge for your curry nights

Those were the days, had to settle for a mere 3 pints with Steve tonight.

I had been printing them out. But I decided to follow Greta Thunberg's example. She saves all her pre match, match and post match threads on the cloud. I like to also save them on cross indexed flash drives for back up comfort too.

I had to tell Greta that the servers we were using were the ones Steve Grant uses to churn crypto assets through, off the back of sub fees. So, it's actually more harmful to the environment than the printing.

I can only see a United win now. They’ve just beaten Liverpool in the midst of a mass protest against their owners, this I believe will have galvanised them and given them a decent springboard. They will be looking at this fixture as a chance to string two victories together against a Saints team who they know are fragile.  They will also be able to relax without the  pressure of playing in front of their home fans….Ronaldo also has a point to prove.

0-3 Man United 😞

Starting to get the core of the team right. Bazunu, ABK, Salisu, JWP, Lavia, Aribo, Stu, Mara, Adams.

Just the full backs to add (KWP + 1) and that looks to be just about our first team at present. What's particularly important to note is that that strongest team contains all 5 of our summer signings, so kudos to the transfer team for bringing in players that seem to have instantly improved us and kudos to those players for slotting in so well.

United beat Liverpool but the Scousers have hardly started the season well. They are both stuttering teams and United just took their chances. If there is a good time to play United, it's now.

I'm not going to say we will win because I still think our lads have a lot to learn and, like Lavia's misplaced early pass last week, mistakes will happen but I will go for a 1-1.

MOTM Aribo.

They didn't have the pressure of their home fans when they played Brentford and got gubbed four- none.

Its very easy to foresee a scenario where this United team of preening egos can get motivated for a big global event fixture vs Liverpool but less so for a routine game against much lower profile opposition. Will be ridiculous to assume that United have fixed all their problems after that one win.

No doubt if Liverpool had won you'd be on here saying United would be fired up to bounce back against us and with a point to prove and therefore we are going to lose sad face emoji etc etc.

We've been doing comparatively better against "bigger" opposition in recent times so I am optimistic we may have the required level of focus.

It was incredibly brave to go 4 at the back against Leicester, it might well be a shocker to go 4 at the back against Man Utd with Moussa at LB.

I'm hoping Perraud will be fit enough to play LB in a 4 this weekend, or I think we have to go to a back 5 for this one, or I think they will kill us down our left.

4 at the back is pretty normal, right?

Because we have a winger playing at left back.

On a side note, anyone know if the cricketers opens early for early kick offs? 11am or so? if not, anyone know of other pubs open around that time?
cheers
