Sarnia Cherie Posted 19 August, 2022 Posted 19 August, 2022 I hated Mike Dean reffing our games. He came across as biased and I think I can remember 2 red cards he happily waved at our players not that long ago being recinded by the FA. I wasn't sorry to learn that he was hanging up his whistle and shoving his cards somewhere where the sun doesn't shine at the end of last season. Good riddance, I thought. However, he hasn't gone for good and is in the VAR office. Last Saturday, Anthony Taylor, was ref for the Chelsea v Spurs match. He had an unimpeded view of the incident where Cucurella ends up on the pitch after getting pulled down by his hair. No reaction from Taylor who lets the game continue and Spurs get an undeserved equaliser. This decision caused a bust up at the end of the match and I, along with the pundits, was puzzled why the ref hadn't given something for the foul. Step up Mike Dean who has now admitted he made a mistake in not getting Taylor to review the incident which would have resulted in a likely red card. Dean needs to step away from any form of referreing. Tuchel wants to ban Taylor from officiating at any future Chelsea games, perhaps he could include getting Dean banned from anything football related as well. I won['t miss him. 8

Why oh why do the FA still employ this incompetent clown ? 6
Sunglasses Ron Posted 19 August, 2022 Posted 19 August, 2022 A truly dreadful ref and a lot of the blame for that 9-0 at Man United rests with him and his total incompetence. I was happy to hear that both him and Garth Crooks had 'retired' last season, only to see both come back like a bad smell in reduced roles. 4
East Kent Saint Posted 19 August, 2022 Posted 19 August, 2022 We were told he was going carry on as a VAR at the time , this mearly confirms our opinion that he shouldn't have been kept on as any sort of ref. 2

Wasn’t he also the VAR ref for the Leicester 0-9 where he sent off Bertrand?

I think that was Andre Marriner. Mike Dean was the VAR ref in that infamous 1-0 defeat at home to Villa a few days before his leading role on the pitch in the 9-0 at Old Trafford. 1
rallyboy Posted 19 August, 2022 Posted 19 August, 2022 There is nothing wrong with VAR, but if you put people like Dean in charge of checking it and he can't spot blatantly violent conduct, the whole thing is a joke. His inconsistency is insane - recall how he thought Martial diving at Old Trafford was a red card penalty, but he sees nothing wrong with dragging a player to the floor by his hair. He's doesn't have the skills or judgement to play any role in the sport. 1
AlexLaw76 Posted 19 August, 2022 Posted 19 August, 2022 Dean has a bit of history in favouring Spurs, right?

Especially if they have a big ego.

The officials had an awful game in spurs Chelsea. Both spurs goals should never really have happened with decent refereeing. It's hard to blame Taylor when you've an absolute imbecile (best case) like Mike dean behind the cameras and in your ear.
aintforever Posted 19 August, 2022 Posted 19 August, 2022 I thought the useless cunt was supposed to be retired? This is like an ending to a shit horror film. 4
cloggy saint Posted 19 August, 2022 Posted 19 August, 2022 At least he came out and said he got it wrong, many wouldn't.

Nothing wrong with the first Spurs goal. The defender comfortably got the ball first.

I think he gets some sort of warped pleasure from admitting he made a mistake, knowing there isn't anything the club can do except face up to the points he likely lost them with his lousy decisions. 1
