On this day...

Doesn't feel like it was that long ago. I remember the stories broke from nowhere on a Sunday night, some ITK's on a Bristol Rovers forum started posting some info on it and then the papers in Bristol picked it up.

Exactly the sort of signing we needed in L1. Someone suited to that league, probably the best goal scorer at that level and it set the tone for the calibre. I don't think anyone expected him to continue his journey with us to the PL and play for England though, that is true fairy tale stuff.

The years supporting this team with Rickie in it were the most fun I've ever had as a football supporter.

Yep, what a signing and era that was.

Best period for me since the 70s up until the Highbury semi-final in 84. Great away days, winning a lot more often and enjoyed doing grounds I hadn’t visited for decades.

I remember thinking (and think people on here were saying it) that £1 million is a lot of money for League One. How little were we to know he'd become a club legend and be one of those lower league players that kept adapting to the higher leagues. The Vardy of his time, only not a twat.

Yep, this. It would almost be worth getting relegated twice again just so that we can go through the same experience all over again....

(p.s. I think I'm only kidding there.... not 100% sure though.... :)

I don't know if I could deal with the pre-liebherr years under Wotte, Wilde and Portvillet again though.

I thought I was past it when it came to heroes, but the man is a fucking hero to me. Summed up everything that was great about our charge to the top flight, and our first couple of seasons there. Incredibly enjoyable time and my lad was the perfect age to enjoy it. Like I bang on about Lawrie’s sides, he’ll be banging on about those years when he is an old bastard.

Just a shame a couple had a bit of a poisonous departure, but hopefully time will heal that. Probably the nicest manager we’ve ever had,  leading a great bunch of lads, playing football the right way. Typified by SRL……Great days.

Getting into football and Saints in 2004/2005, Lambert's the clear legend of my era supporting the club. I remember signing him, going to Northampton at home the next day and him scoring on his debut and that was a sign of what was to come for the next five years. Such a good footballer and took the rise up to the Championship and then the Premier League with ease. 15 league goals in 38 in his first season in the top flight, we're crying for that now. We've had some good moments as England fans in recent years, and that goal against Scotland is still up there as one of the most memorable.

Those years were a perfect storm for me personally. Early 20’s, hadn’t settled in a career or had kids so did most games of the L1 and Championship promotion seasons, endless weekends away with groups of 10/15 of us.

Felt like those days would never end. Fantastic.
