National Anthem

Whilst watching the Commonwealth Games and seeing English gold medallists serenaded by Jerusalem, I thought how good it would  be if that became our national anthem. God Save the Queen is such a dirge and doesn't set the blood running in the same way as Jerusalem. The England cricket team come out to Jerusalem. Surely that should be our anthem.

England should certainly have it's own anthem if the periphery have their own.

What do they use for the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands ?

I actually hate our national anthem, not what it is obviously but the funereal tone of it, "dirge" being the right word. Contrast it with the French anthem for example, a thoroughly uplifting invigorating number. As to a possible replacement who knows, Stone Roses Elephant Stone would be my candidate, but thus far my tireless campaigning has come to nothing.

Land of Hope and glory would be my choice. GSTQ/K is a dirge. Jerusalem is ok but not the best. French, Italian, Welsh, Scottish all rousing

That's a fantastic idea . I think their anthem is great. 

A few years ago I went to Rome to watch  the  egg chasers play Italy. We walked into the stadium (admittedly after a few beers)  just as the Italians were finishing their anthem. The atmosphere was fantastic and made the hairs stand up  on the back of your neck

GSTQ is the anthem of the UK, not England. So it shouldn’t be used for England team matches (and it’s dirgey shit).

Land of hope and glory is the best of a bad bunch. Not really a big fan of Jerusalem myself.
