What?! No. You would have to be one of life's greatest ever optimists to have hope now.

The ridiculous truth is, IF we did win convincingly Monday, and finally showed the fighting spirit required. We'd be only 3 pts from safety.

Plymouth and Ipswich Promoted into the Championship.

Both battered the league.  Sheff Weds who finished 2nd would have gone up top 2 in any other tier 3 season in living memory (or in history). They would have won the league when we finished 2nd.

Plymouth 101 points and champions. For their budget and resources, remarkable. Their manager is on the up.

Fucking hell, it’s Plymouth, not some friggin one horse town. They’ve been the 2nd tier plenty of times and have a massive catchment area. It’s no big deal, I wouldn’t call it “remarkable “.

It is when they have very meager resources compared to about half of league 1, and beat them all.

So they’ve got the same resources as half the league then? I wouldn’t call it “Remarkable “ that they finished above about a dozen teams with bigger resource?

My opinion (whether it is pony or not), a team who have lower half of league 1 resources, who are blown away financially by a handful of teams, to finish above them all is pretty good. More wins than anyone else, 20 / 23 home wins, 101 points etc.

Very good IMO, which totally defies their resources.

Had they scraped 2nd on 80-odd points, I would totally agree with you.

I thought they had American investors?

Perhaps you should tell Gareth Ainsworth what a “remarkable” performance it was. When commenting on the likes of Derby & Ipswich being in the league he  said “other clubs such as Milton Keynes, Peterborough United & Plymouth have also had substantial financial backing.”

Perhaps.

Their American investor(s) is a plymouth born fan. Took the club on when the previous owner just saved them from going out of existence in League 2.

Well, I think it is a pretty great story, you dont - fair enough

I notice that Sky are creaming themselves all over Saudi United again today. Not a pretty sight and almost makes me long for the Championship.

Hope Arsenal stuff them. Fair play to Howe though as on paper doesn’t look anywhere near a top 4 side but got them playing well

Weird Plymouth have never flirted with top flight as a fair size city

At least they sung the national anthem unlike those scouse bastards. Although who the hell thought it a good idea to play it at Anfield I will never know.

That’s everything that’s wrong with the Premier League.

Just watch Odegaard score in the bottom corner with a speculative shot from outside the goal. Reminded me of what we used to do before this season.

hope Selles is watching and taking it on board. Shooting in the final third will sometimes result in a goal, a save or back off the post. Isn’t rocket science.

Kompany signs a new contract. I know it means little and will have pocketed a tidy pay rise, but confirms he will stay the next season at least.

Lavia loaned to Burnley (via City), then!?

What an extraordinarily unlikeable team Newcastle are. Shithousery all over the park. Especially Wilson and Trippier. Horrible. And such an entitled crowd. Come on arsenal.

Trippier is a gobshite. Sarcastically applauded ref in first half and no card. Refs don’t help themselves taking shit from players and managers

There should have been many more cards in this one. They get away with murder because of the atmosphere. Will always remember that game where they said they had too many with Covid. We were on good form. They were in danger of relegation. FA rolled over and let them tickle their belly until the transfer window came round and we lost to a completely different team. Corrupt to the hilt.

Did Schar not even get booked for that poleaxing of Gabriel Jesus just now?

Unbelievable. really bad fouls every minute, unpunished. Horrible club. Ref must have had a phone call before the match

Last week inexplicable yellow card for KWP and S Armstrong given a yellow card for taking too long when being subbed when Newcastle players took just as long

There used to be a pub quiz question, 'Which is the largest town/city never to have hosted top flight football?', and the answer (used to be) Hull. Maybe Plymouth are the new Hull?

Let us all take a moment to enjoy Wycombe's equaliser against Portsmouth earlier.

Anyone else think the reaction from Wright here (at the very start), that you see with other pundits, is completely OTT?

no if I was watching with a Geordie i’d do exactly the same.

You’re not paid to analyse the game.

Its pathetic, unprofessional. You get it all the time now, biased pundits that are unable to control themselves….

Yep, especially considering the title race is all but over now.

Good news.

Every game I feel like I say "that's it, beyond the point of no return" but the crazy fact is that if Everton lose later and we beat forest then in 5 days time a win against Fulham puts us above both of them and level with Leicester and Leeds. I don't believe that we will put in the performances to keep us up, but it is absolutely still possible.

Fulham beating leicester 2-0

3-0 now at HT.

Not looking good for Leicester. After Forest beat us tonight, they will only be out of the relegation places on GD.

Cracking result so far for Leeds, Forest and Everton.

Doesn't make a tiny bit of difference to us though. I can imagine Forest will just have too much for us tonight, they know what a win will do now.

WTF are Leicester doing? I thought they might win today as Fulham have nothing to play for so to be 3 down at half time is awful.

With Plymouth, Ipswich and potentially Sheffield Wednesday coming up from league one.
