We couldn't ever dream to compete with a club like Brentford.

When you look at their starting XI really makes you think, not many players there are household names or cost a lot, just well scouted / coached and play well as a TEAM , not all about spend spend spend,  Brentford deserve a lot of credit

Feels like the season when we finished 6th when Chelsea and Liverpool were poor. Only this time likes of Brentford and Brighton will take advantage, not us

They do, built a really good team without spending a fortune. Fit, strong, aggressive, organised and well managed. When you consider the money we’ve spunked away on utter rubbish in the last 4 or 5 years

Brentford are everything we’re not.
They are proof small clubs can compete if they are well run.

We already proved that not so long ago when we finished 6th and got into Europe.

At some point we'll be above them again. Undoubtedly they are having a great time at the moment but it won't always be like that, and we won't always be shit.

Christ, do we really have to go through this whenever somebody outside the big seven has a decent game or above average season? Yes - Brentford, Brighton and Fulham are having a decent season. Three years ago we were 11th, whilst two of them were in the championship and Brighton were 15th. In another three years it’ll all be different again because none of us have the budget to sustain it for more than two or three years.

Brentford are great,as much as Liverpool are shite.
As I’ve said before, even when they were in the championship,Thomas Frank is brilliant.
I watched them when living nearby.
so good.

Wonder who was responsible for recruiting him.

I think that's exactly it, if you went back to 2016 I bet you can find clubs saying exactly the same about us. Without substational backing it's unsustainable, you just need to make the most of the periods you 'strike gold'. I will always have frustration that we didn't win anything during our period, we had everything in place to.

We'll come again, just in the same way fans of Brighton and Brentford will be clamouring about how badly their club is run in a few years time. It's the way of the world for small-fry clubs like ourselves, you just have to enjoy the moments when they come as they will always be few and far between.

Saying that though I don't think it's fair to accept just how shit we've been in the last 2 years, not even a tiny bit shit, country-leading record breaking dog shit.

I can't see Fulham sustaining what they're doing, but I'd wager that Brighton won't slide, and will continue to make progress. Their transfer business - in and out - is superb. Brentford strike me as overachieving and at some point they'll lose Frank and it'll go to shit.

So was ours in between 2013 and 2015. Promising youth talents like Shaw, Chamber, Lallana and JWP breaking through and making the England squad. Shrewd signings from lower leagues like Jay Rod and Lambert. Pulling gems like Lovren, VVD, Tadic and Mane out of nowhere and selling them for huge profits. Money always talks long term. If they have a decent manager, player or even recruitment consultant he'll be poached eventually and they'll drop back like we did.

I know it doesn’t mean a lot these days but he signed a contract extension on Xmas Eve. They know how to keep a good manager unlike us.

Brighton signed a long contract with Potter as well but then Chelsea came. Frank will be his replacement at Chelsea at this rate! 😅

If a CL club come in for Thomas Frank today, tomorrow or next month he'll go.

The new contract will have plenty about that in there no doubt about it.

Just seen Pompey fans on Facebook (their version of the Echo page) suggesting they should go for Gary O Neil.

They honestly think he'd leave a Premier League job that he's only just got to manage a midtable League One team. I know they have an overinflated sense of importance but even for them that's delusional.

One manager to keep an eye out for (when we go down).  Stephen Schumacher - he is on the way up.

I live near Plymouth and go occasionally, he can absolutely do no wrong. Their keeper is incredible too but then so was Bazunu in League One.

Michael Carrick is worth keeping an eye on. Has gone to a woeful Middlesbrough and won 7 out of the last 9, the only defeat being to Burnley.

Middlesbrough now 5th in the league after languishing just above the relegation zone when he joined.

Just like years of England teams, everyone going for Gerrard and Lampard when Carrick was the answer

WBA manager, Carlos Corberan has turned them around too. And he’s exotic sounding
