We should have held out for Potter 😂😂

Newcastle 3rd at Christmas then, and to think Howe wasn’t good enough to manage us according to some on here.

It’s only because of the money they’ve spent, apparently.

Can’t be that Howe gets teams relegated and can’t spend money.

Eddie Howe has done a really good job. Yea he’s had a bit of money to spend but it’s his man-management that has paid off for Newcastle.

The players that weren’t firing now are. That’s not down to money spent. That’s down to the coaching and management.

Some will always despise Eddie Howe purely cos he was at Bournemouth but let’s be honest we’d all take him at Saints.

Bramall Lane 16/12/14 revisited.

Sparta Prague too - think everyone was pissed off that night at the seeming lack of effort (having no doubt having coughed up getting there too). Long got part way to us Saints fans realised that the mood was not very happy - just threw a “sod the fecking lot of you” gesture in our direction and trudged off.

Not that we are fighting with Villa. But I feel sick.

Yey......corrupt world cup for distraction.

Ings would be the difference from bottom 3 to mid-table for us.

As he always was when he was here, without him during those seasons we would have been done for. It was the failure to adequately replace him that's put us in this position we are right now. Armstrong was targeted as his successor (we couldn't even buy him until we had cashed the Ings money), and that has been a total disaster of epic proportions. If you look back we had similar issues with our game when Ings was here (conceding lots of goals, letting leads slip, open on the break etc) but we always had that clinical edge to take a chance ourselves.

I know it's very simplistic, but that's the single difference between us being comfortable and dredged in the mire.

There’s a few on Twitter saying we should go back in for Ings in January.

Are they high? Like he’d return. He’s just hitting some form at Villa and I’m sure he’d rather play higher up the table with arguably better players and Emery as boss than return.

Then again the same people on Twitter are suggesting we should go back in for Gakpo… 😅

We definitely look like one of the three worst teams in the league on the basis of having watched the likes of Fulham, Villa and Leeds recently.

On this display against United, Fulham look streets ahead of us

This season is going to be unbelievably tight for four or five teams, and we’re one of them.

Before the season started I’d say bottom eleven you couldn’t call.

But those teams that are down there/have been down there recently such as Wolves, Leicester, West Ham, Villa are all better than us.

And the teams close to our level taking points off each other, something we’ve struggled hugely with, losing to Wolves, Villa, Palace and Everton.

Was just thinking the same, had been feeling positive with Jones appointment but when you look at our players just cannot see three sides worse than us.

Been impressed with Fulham this season.

thank god for that

Don't think we should take any comfort from Fulham losing to a late goal. They are a very good side and will finish mid table.

The change in owners from Hall who sold the club and walked away with all the money and Ashley who didn’t have much interest in the club , failed to invest , then hit the jackpot with the Saudis has made the main difference.  Howe , as we know , has been a rising star , future England manager and even potential Saints saviour in the past . His stock fell after all that but revived at B mouth until it crashed and burned where he had to walk away from football to recover . Back on the crest of a wave at Newcastle , despite the caretaker manager tag when he was appointed !

Still a long way to go. An injury to Mitrovic or a dip in form could bring Fulham back into the mix too. January window will be interesting as pretty much all those teams listed will be in the market for a striker

You'd hope that both Wolves and Forest spent their January striker budgets in the summer. Forest bought Awoniyi and Dennis for a combined £40m, while Wolves put £15m down on Kalajdzic to be their main man, only for an injury to scupper it, while Diego Costa and Raul Jimenez will be on a good wage too and nobody's taking on the latter after his injury problems. From looking around Wolves signed Edozie's brother in the summer, he was playing for Bromley.

Went to watch Sholing today. Another win, 1-0 against Slimbridge who played better than their league position reflects.

Was a pretty poor game though, and the coldest I've been for ages.

Didn't notice many new faces, any Saints fans who said they were going to use the World Cup break as a chance to watch non-league matches certainly weren't there today.

Wycombe 1 Portsmouth Community Football Club 0 (14 mins)

Full time: 2-0 :)

Mehmeti for Wycombe looks like a decent player

So, they didn't run away with the league again after going unbeaten in their first 9. You'd think their fans would finally learn after going ten years without second tier football.

The self proclaimed best fans in the world who where streaming out if the ground with five minutes left to play. Even the injury time hadn't been announced by then!!

You mean to say the biggest team in League One is still in League One and not even top of the division for another consecutive season!?!?! No….! 🤣

What a club.

Guffaw. After Sheff Wed and Derby and Ipswich and Bolton and Plymouth and..........

I see the great Liam "Better than Broja and Ramos" Delap has now scored his second goal in 21 games in all comps. In The Championship. Why did we not spend the £30 Million asking price?!
