Match Day Parking

After many years of living away from Southampton and working weekends I have finally managed to get a job where I’m off weekends and have purchased a season ticket for the first time! I will be travelling down from Gloucester game days and was hoping someone could help out with some advice for parking near the stadium?

Plenty of places around the ground - if you’re early some free roadside parking on the trading estate near Shamrock Quay, few businesses charge £7-£10 to park in their yard round there. Think some folk park for free in the Northam Business park just over the Northam Bridge.

some food for thought

To be honest in the post Covid era most of the car parks in town rarely fill up now even on match day. I often park in East Street multi storey. I think about £5-£7 for over 5 hours and a 15 minute walk to ground.

Second that. Although it can be a bit of a pain getting back out after the game.

I usually park in Eastgate MSCP, pretty secure and not expensive, not a bad walk to the ground and near the shops/restaurants for sticking around after. However I don't mind a walk and the last couple of times I've parked in Bedford Place and Ordnance Road which made more sense as I come in down the Avenue and had a nice drop of beer in the London Road Brew house pre-match.

Long gone are the days of Lime Street and pre-match pints in the Oak...

With the parking restrictions in and around the city centre and the inner avenue you might find it easier to park somewhere around Bitterne Train Station and make the short walk across Northam Bridge before and after the game (or jump on a bus). At least that way afterwards you’ll avoid the gridlock of the city centre and will be able to head over Cobden Bridge to Thomas Lewis Way and join the motorway home.

I wish you hadn't mentioned that. It's where we park and it's bad enough finding a space already.

You can buy a Parking Season Ticket from the Club.....they are not particularly cheap. The price depends on how close they are to the ground. Not too bad I suppose if you car share.

If you buy them on a match by Match basis they’re much cheaper.

I’m going to be cheeky, but remain on subject, we’re off to the Ageas Bowl tomorrow night for the Hundred, anyone got any recommendations not involving a massive hike.

Parking for the Ageas Bowl when it is busy is dreadful.  Made the mistake of trying out the P&R for the T20 game v SA on Sunday.  Queued for an hour to get in and then waited an hour for the bus back after the game.  Won't be doing that again.  It's a shame as it's a great ground once you are in.

Personally, I don't mind a 20-30 min walk before and after a game - just want to be able to get away easily once back at the car.  If anyone has any good suggestions then I would also appreciate them for next time I go.

Sorry Whitey 🤣I park there too, as long as you get there at least an hour before kick off it’s normally pretty clear.
