We don't usually bother entering this competition do we? Seems a bit pointless but if away fans are allowed might go along

Think we've generally always entered the Hampshire Senior Cup, it's the Southampton Senior Cup that we've usually swerved - we entered a few years back as it was an anniversary year of some sort, possibly the 100th or 150th year of the competition?

Considering we've got Villa way on Friday 16th Sept, it's unlikely we'd see any first teamers. Pompey have a game on Tues 13th Sept so would be a young team for them too, if it is indeed played on w/c 12th Sep as the article suggests.

6 days to go

Can't find any reference to it on Pompeys website, they have a League game away to Burton next Tuesday, would more likely be behind closed doors academy game this

Speaking at the recent Tony Goodall Fans’ Conference, Cullen confessed the need to police the game, along with additional security measures, would cost Pompey ‘significant money’ – and that needed to be taken into account.

The Blues chief said: ‘The Hampshire Cup is usually a good money-spinner for local non-league clubs.

‘If they draw one of the bigger clubs like us or Southampton, it’s a great payday for these community sides. It’s why we usually seek to play all of our games in this competition away.

It’s surprising that we’ve been paired with them (Southampton) as it denies other clubs the chance to play either side and earn money from it.

‘We will now need to police the game, and that, coupled with additional security measures, means it will cost the club significant money to stage this fixture'

"

Why would a random draw be "surprising", unless they think the draw should be rigged...? Most unlike them to advocate bending the rules...

Pompey will play first team players as they don't have a game for 6 days after that and their fans will regard it as one of the biggest games of the season.

I've been saying that for weeks. They'll play their strongest team to avenge the 4 0 and claim it as a dominance victory

Leaving it late if they are going to sell tickets for this , can't see there being much interest just open one stand and make it pay on the day

One stand? Mix fans? Sounds alright.

Probably open 2 stands opposite each other, or just 2 stands in general if low key.

Last time I went to a game in this competition was Bournemouth Poppies (of the Wessex league) away , we played a mix of u18s in the game who managed to scrap through

Unless we do what Pompey will do and play at least some first team squad players, we'll lose, probably by a big score. Last night Pompey beat Aston Villa U21s 5-0 while Saints U21s lost 2-1 to Exeter. There is no evidence that our U21s can beat Pompey. Why do we have to play our U21s anyway? It's not a rule, is it? Some of our fringe first team squad players could do with match practice.

Not even sure they will play first teamers in this fixture. The final doesn't come with a day out at Wembley!

I guarantee you they will. They chose this prime midweek date for the fixture because it has 6 days after it without a first team fixture for them, when there are 2 League One fixtures they need to rearrange which they could have prioritized instead. They know that thrashing any Saints team will be very important for their fans, and. let's face it, even League Two teams can beat our B team, which is just a bunch of teenagers, most of whom will never make the grade at Football League level,  plus Ollie Lancashire,  easily.

Yep agree, fantastic PR for them to beat us , their fans will love it.

We've got so many first team squad players that have hardly had any competitive minutes let them have a run out.

I'm not sure how much their fans even know about this. Woman at work who has a season ticket was completely oblivious to the game even happening.

They have been promoting it , but only sold a couple of thousand from the look of it so far.

Got my tickets through the post the other day and then an email today telling me to pick them up from the ticket office tomorrow.

Hopefully we'll go with some of the more experienced academy players rather than a really young side.

Would be interesting to see a front line of Dibling, Ballard and Morgan.

Would imagine Ballard & Morgan are guaranteed starters — both were unusually on the bench on Saturday.

Any idea how many we've sold for this?

Frustrating that I was told yesterday afternoon I need to collect as it hardly leaves much time to.

Looking forward to it though. Should be a good crack and hopefully an entertaining game.

Cowley already making excuses ‘It’s going to be their under-23s, whereas ours is predominantly an under-18 team’. I would imagine their team will still be more senior than ours though because our B team is pretty young

The fact their 1st team manager is being asked about the game and from the sound of it will be in the dugout clearly shows this is a Portsmouth v Southampton u21s , need to be very clear on that as they'll give it the big one gloating if they win (which is likely unfortunately)

Really looking forward to 90 minutes of Westwood ringing his fucking bell.

Anyone else going or is it just me?

Wish I'd decided to go now mate, can you video call me and hold your phone towards the pitch for 90 mins?

If it is just you in the away end will probably get a police escort back to your car at full time

Regardless of Cowley being asked questions about it by a local reporter, I'd still be very surprised if there was a single player who has played first team football in the last few weeks in their side. Might throw a few fringe players in, but look at what good that did for Leicester's U21 side last night with Vestergaard getting a run out...

Hope you are right Steve. I think they'll play similar side as pizza cup that thrashed Villa u21s 5-0

I know its sad to care about Hampshire Senior Cup but I'd bloody love it if we could beat them

Did we play in this in League One? I don't remember any version of our team being involved in this.

We've been in it on and off I think, usually play the kids against Wessex league opposition and no one notices
