It's a real positive that we can make these sort of moves now. Our signings of Small/Tino etc have really opened the deals to these sort of players, but it's clear these lads aren't going to be anywhere near the first team yet but for the future it's very positive.

Exactly.  It would be like saying Ethan Hartness would be challenging KWP for a left-back place.

They are essentially scholars (so, in essence, we still need them to sign pro deals in a couple of years!) - They’ll be U18’s to start with and then if they do very well, B-Team appearances would be an great achievement.

Bro your so quick you'd turn up early to a premature ejaculation conference.

I went to one of those and the organizer got up first and said, "thank you everyone for coming"...and I thought, "how did he know?".

Isn’t what happen with these kind of deals are they are bought in a scholarship but they have already agreed professional terms. They just can’t sign/confirm until the turn 17

When you mentioned the name Ethan I had to look it up as I used to teach him martial arts years ago.

Indeed it’s the same guy and he used to try and wear a Saints shirt when he first started. Real home boy that kid is.

Still no word about Meghoma?

He was pretty strongly linked to Man United when it was reported that we'd "won the race" for his signature.

Perhaps having seen us sign a 17 and 18 year old left back in the last two summers he's had a rethink and doesn't see a pathway here for a 16 year old left back.

And Jeremi "JRod 2.0" Rodriguez (19).

Not sure about Tom Davies' new comic character, though. Bit racially insensitive.

was he the one we signed from Spain? He was really highly rated from what i remember but doesnt seem to be anywhere near the first team. Guess that means Vokins will be on his way.

Yeah, that's him. Pops up in training pictures now and again.

Vokins was assumed a write off when the club sent a 22 year old who held his own in the SPL last season on loan to a non league side this season.

Played up front the other day, randomly.

From the sounds of it he let Ralph down a bit last year with his performance last year in the league cup. I’m also not convinced that Ralph loves the youngsters pushing for loan deals, I think he would rather have the same on the playbook and push for a first team role but maybe that’s just me. As we’ve seen before with Slattery, and to a lesser extent Tyreke Johnson, as a youngsters it’s hard to come back when you’ve let Ralph down even just once. I hope Small proves us wrong because he came very highly rated. I think when he moved Everton was asking for £5mil for a 16 year old.

Given the career trajectory of both of these players, it looks like Ralph was right.

Many players are very highly rated at 16 years old. Most of them don't make it (certainly not in the Prem), that's just professional football.

Meghoma pro deal confirmed, Sam Amo's should be shortly. Hope its more than a 2 year deal as he won't go unnoticed for long, especially with a bit of end product.

Great piece of recruitment to nab him from Spurs.

Surprised he isn't tied down already given his impressive performance V Liverpool.

He only just turned 17 so only now can sign pro. He likely agreed one as part of his scholarship move but most of the others only signed two years until 2025 (which is pretty normal). I think ideally we would want a little more security than that for him given he looks very much like being a first team squad member this season.

If you go on the OS you at first don't find them in the photo line-ups and then realise you have to go down to the under 18s. Perhaps we have got some youngsters who'll make it..?!   Now to sort out the young goalkeepers..

Basically from what I hear we are very very excited about the 14/15/16 age groups but the quality wasn’t quite there with the majority of 17/18 yr olds hence why we brought some in

Love the sentiment, but as discussed elsewhere goalkeepers from the academy are very, very rare. As in any profession you pay for experience, not being willing to pay for that experience leads to a less than satisfactory experience.

Which makes complete sense given where the club was (from a financial, recruitment, and coaching perspective) during the relegation, administration, and league 1 years. Wouldn't have recovered significantly until after we had re-established back in the premier league so you're talking 2013-14 intakes onwards imo. These kids join the club under 8 years old etc? So we really should be seeing the fruits of the academy investments only in the coming years - and the signs are already good.

He'll be the break through youngster this season. Ox, Walcott, Bale style.

Agree, from the snippets we've seen of him so far he is a confident lad and has the talent to back that up. Obviously at the young age of just 17 he'll need to be managed but I hope he gets plenty of game time because he looks like one of those players who will not be a shrinking violet on the big stage. You can always spot the youngsters with real talent because they shine the moment they get into the first team and have an almost arrogant self-belief. I think this lad fits into that category.
