26 appearances in our most successful ever season (83-84). Went to to Birmingham and then on to Walsall where he broke his ankle in first ever training session and never played again.

RIP Ken.

I remember chatting to Kilmarnock fans at Rugby Park about him, from his time there. He was one that came through the Juniors teams in Ayrshire. He gets a mention in books covering the history of that level.

Seems far too recent a player to have left us. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

Sad news, especially as too young to go.

My recollection of him was that on arrival he was considered to have a lot of potential although a tall order to replace Chris Nicholl.

Think he started the season okay, but lost form and after Lawrie settled on the Wright-Agboola combination Ken Armstrong lost his place.

He went out on loan to Notts County but came back to play in the final games of the 83-84 season, including the 3-1 win at Notts County that claimed the runners-up position. So he can rightly claim to have been part of the greatest Saints team of all time.

He played 26 times that season, so don't think there is much doubt about that. With only 1.sub allowed 26/42 with a loan period must have been about as regular as it could be. Odd thing is I have no recollection of Ken whatsoever.

Someone I know played for Notts County for many years and when he left, Armstrong was actually signed on loan to replace this guy they think. I told the person I know last night about this, he was very shocked. Said he never actually met him personally other than playing against him but remembers him being a very physically fit guy!

That was when, together with David, we had 2 Armstrongs in the first team. Can't imagine that happening again.

......... oh, yeah!
