Can that be possible, for the agent to obstruct it if he wants to stay at Saints. Of course it isn’t in the agents interest for him to remain here, and understandably he’ll be researching other options, but if TD wants to stay that should be the end of it.

On the other hand RM’s summary of contract talks may be as reliable as his injury updates on Ross Stewart.

Traders gotta trade. Without transfers their income is reduced.

Football agents by and large are only interested in lining their own pockets, their fees and the ridiculous wages in the top division really do make a very sick example of football. A very average premier league footballer is a multi millionaire by his mid twenties if they are careful, money has ruined top sport, Saudi Arabia getting the world cup in 10 years unopposed is another total disgrace.

We can condemn agents all we like ( and most would agree). But surely if the player as client says I want to stay at Saints (or any other club) then that’s the end of the matter and his agent shouldn’t be hawking him around.

They will of course be saying look the best I can get there is £x, and a move to wherever is £y, but the focus should be the deal with the preferred club.

Seems tail trying to wag the dog. Players should have the gumption to tell the agent to fuck off if they’re not listening.

(Totally agree with you about the WC).

From watching him (and only that), I get the impression that he just wants to play football. At some point he'll play at the highest level, I hope, and he knows it but for now I think playing all the time is most important to him. I would say, however, that he wouldn't want to play in the league below and frankly I think he (and Fernandes and Ramsdale and KWP) are too good for it so shouldn't lower themselves as they'll get little out of it.

Slight deviation from the subject of TD:

However, KWP is mid-level EPL only and the rest of ours  could make a fist of it in this league with a lot of effort and better playing but aren't really of the highest calibre so wouldn't see them as out of place in the league below.  There are a number of quite good players there, as well.

The fact RM is saying his family and the club are on one side and his agent another doesn’t add up.

But they’re getting close to an agreement. Possibly two weeks away from him signing it.

The lad is worth upwards of £50m plus sell-on. Anything less will demonstrate once again the incompetence of the SFC Board / SR.

He really is….worth upwards of 50m plus sell on.  Would love him to stay but who in their right mind would expect such a talent to play Championship next season?     I take a line through Lavia - a year or so older (at the time), plays a different position, but there’s an equivalence in their precocious talent.

Probably not getting the whole story from Russell Martin.

Players can sack their agents if they’re not doing what is asked. It’s not difficult.

Depends on the terms of their contract. He may be stuck with the fella for ages. What we're being told is plausible imo.

I think you have to take what RM says with a large pinch of sale on most things. I'm hoping that not on this occasion though.

Spurs in January

New manager bounce, win three of four against Fulham/Wham/Palace/Brentford to get back into the fight, and then Levy offers half of what he's worth as per usual so he goes? I don't see it.

£70m in the summer if we go down. If we stay up and keep improving in subsequent years he's here for life.

No way will Tyler Dibling be here for life. With the exception of Matt Le Tissier, how many talented footballers have played their entire career at Southampton? We have had some great players wear our shirt but we are a stepping stone club for them to go on to bigger and better clubs with the opportunity for them to progress and win trophies. After watching last night's horror show I really hoped Dibling would go in the January window. He doesn't deserve to be working under a one-dimensional manager like RM. Now SR have finally pulled the plug, hopefully we can keep Dibling until the end of the season at least. If we get relegated, he no way deserves to play Championship football but if we manage to survive in the Prem he may give us another season, but here for life? No way!

Of course it adds up. Nobody is suggesting they are on different sides or the agent wants him out. The agent is instructed to get the best deal possible for Tyler by him and his parents. Agent is doing that.

Frannie Benali and James Ward-Prowse to name but two.   (I've discounted FB's loan spell at Forest and as soon as JWP left us I declared his career officially over in my mind.  If ever I met him I would tell him that.....).

£70m?! Not a chance in hell.

He’ll go for probably half that.

🚨 #SaintsFC wonder kid Tyler Dibling feels ‘disrespected’ by the way his contract talks have been handled by the club.

Let’s hope this is AC being his usual out-of-touch self..

I was worried right up until I saw Alex Crooks name associated with it as the source.

He’ll probably sign a five year extension tomorrow based on that.

£70m?!?

For all his talent, the lad has 1 goal and 0 assists to his name in the PL this season.  We’ll barely get half that fee.

To be fair you look at in another way he has scored nearly 10% of our goals this season, or in joint 4th for goals scored. If he scores another he will be joint top, another 2 and he will be the leading scorer!

I have a close friend that knows Tyler and the Dibling family very well. By all accounts Tyler is a very level headed lad who values friends and family first and foremost and who is a very quiet lad. I totally agree with the above that this sounds like agent bollocks just trying to squeeze more out of Saints at a time where the club would be desperate not to lose their prized asset.

Reading the very sad tale of Joey Beauchamp and thinking some of it (not the post playing career part) may have some parallels with Tyler.

Before a lot of peoples time on here I'm sure but Beachamp was a great player for Oxford and made a move to West Ham but left after 56 days or so as he was deeply unhappy and really wanted to be at Oxford and so moved back.  Times were not kind to Beauchamp after he finished playing and he sadly took his own life.

The only reason I bring this up is that Tyler left Chelsea after a short time there and it seems that, even if we go down, that perhaps Tyler is better staying at Saints: certainly for 2-3 seasons more (when he'll still be only 21!), especially as many articles have said he is quite shy and introverted and that perhaps the bright lights and spotlight on him will not be a good thing for him personally at such a young age.

Or maybe that is wishful thinking on my part as he is the only bright spot this season!

There is a big difference between being shy, introverted or feeling homesick at 15/16 to age 19/20.

Tyler is dealing with the spotlight that has been on him well. I cannot see a situation where he isn't playing in a top 5 European league next season.

I do think he might believe he is better off at a club where he is valued, but can't see him dropping down to the Champ when we almost certainly go.

Unfortunately, that just means it's more likely that he could end-up at a Bournemouth or Brighton instead of a Man Utd.

Can see him at Brighton.

I see no value in him in going to a mediocre club. If Tella can do it, I think he could make a step in Germany but I'd like to see him play in Italy at some point because it'll make him develop. Too young now, of course.  Worryingly, if not us, I think the best club for him would be the lot we're playing tonight.
