Keeping Shane Long for one more season might be a wise decision.

He's not going to start too many games but with so many new/ young players on the way in, it might be good to have an older head around on match days.

He's supposed to be a professional footballer, not a club mascot.

Any news on Perraud? He was reported by the OS in mid May as having a fracture in his foot and would be out for 5 to 6 weeks. Hope he’s back very soon, otherwise KWP is our only fit first team full back.

He's still injured, hasn't returned to Staplewood yet. They're concerned he might not be fit for the start of the season.

Opportunity for Small to pull his finger out and impress in pre season.

Vokins didn't disgrace himself in Scotland.

So we have options, to an extent.

Cheers. That’s really quite concerning. With current personnel we’re looking at some quite unpalatable potential options:

- Valery/Stephens RB and KWP at LB

- Salisu at LB

- Back 3 with Tella/Redmond at LWB

- Putting faith in Vokins or Small stepping up

Got to have faith the club know the situation and putting decent contingencies in place.

JWP the £75m full back?

You'd have thought he'd be back in time for the start of the season, even if he's not 100% match fit. Bone fractures tend to be fairly definitive in their recovery time and not the sort of thing which would take twice as long, seemingly without reason.

Even if he wasn't I wouldn't be unduly concerned. None of our options is exactly ideal but they're not disastrous either. I'd be hoping to start seeing more of Small this season in any case,

Wonder if this is also pushing the Colwill move - obviously a very talented young player and primarily a CB, but has played LB.

Would assume all the Intl will be back in time for the Austria trip next Wednesday.

The squad list for that will be very interesting. No point taking players who will be leaving. Will any of the youngsters get a chance to impress?

Got to love it when the speculation about the travel list starts.  Then it moves up another level to who’s left out of the squads…

One month till the season starts. First little twinge of excitement. Can't wait to see Spuds snuff that out after five mins!

Richarlson suspended for this match for throwing flare back into crowd during Everton match 🙂

Am I right to assume that from the squad that finished the season Forster and Long have definitely left but there is no definite news on the future of Theo Walcott or any of the other players with question marks over their future?
Meanwhile we have 2 new keepers, a central defender and relatively strong possibilities of two new midfielders.

Pretty much yes,I think we petitioned  the Premier league to allow us to play with 2 keepers.

They said are you sure as after watching last season I wouldn’t want any of them in goal.

So after the Austria trip we are playing Watford, Monaco, Villarreal and Leipzig (TBC) - decent tests!

Think Leipzig is cancelled. We’re playing those 3 in a week so doubt we’ll have time for another game before season starts

Would makes sense, shame we won’t get to play them but still a competitive fixture list for pre-season compared to previous years.

I’m not advocating games for the sake of games, but is 4 friendlies enough prep for the season?

Maybe a result of the season being brought forward to accommodate the World Cup?

Pre season fixture dates are as follows:

SK Austria Klagenfurt (a) - July 18
Watford (at Wealdstone) - July 23
AS Monaco (h) - July 27
Villarreal (h) - July 30

It’ll soon be 6th August away at Spurs.

In line with many other clubs, some are doing more of course. We're staying relatively close to home, the likes of Utd and Liverpool etc doing their money spinning across places like Thailand/Australia etc etc

Two decent home games against good standard  European names, just realised Villarreal tickets go up by a fiver tomorrow, bit sneaky just been put on sale and no member discount.

Shame we don't bother with any proper local games against League Two (a few options - Crawley, Wimbledon, Sutton) or non-league to ease the players into pre-season anymore. Would have been pretty easy to give two separate XIs 45 minutes against a much lower standard for the fitness and just getting back into the match environment and mentality.

Don't we usually have unannounced games v non league opposition made up entirely of reserve/youth players?

Squeezing the games in, that’s 5 games in 2 weeks

There is certainly a different approach to absolutely everything this season.

Coaches, recruitment, pre-season, quality of opposition. I imagine the better quality opposition is once again down to money? We have to pay a fee to the likes of Monaco and Villarreal I'm sure.

There are certainly a number of B Team games:

July

9th: Frome Town (A)
13th: Cartegena (N)
17th: Villarreal B (N)
23rd: Wycombe Wanderers (N - not sure if the OS has a typo as it's saying the game is in Frome...)
26th: Eastleigh (A)
30th: Watford U23s (H - Staplewood)

August

2nd: AFC Totton (A)
