Well, Lambert, Lovren, Van Dyke, Lallana, Mane and Clyne all went there within two years. Sounds like a very hot connection to me. I really hope it's gone cold

I wonder if Derby will come in for him given the saints Derby connection after all Shilton and Mark Wright both went there the same season in 1987

Great stuff! Hopefully he'll be off to the world cup too.

Personally, I'd rather he stayed under the radar for a little longer, and had a four week break this winter to resume the season with us when it re-starts.

Probably.

The only other s German international I can think of is Uwe Rosler, who played for East Germany, though not whilst with us.

Yeah he played a few times years before he joined us, can’t remember any other German players let alone internationals

Doesn't look like he's in the provisional German world cup squad which has leaked.

If they were holding off on operating on his shoulder because he was eying up the WC, they should probably get it booked now - it's a pretty long recovery period, IIRC.

Yep - 3 games till the WC now? We can cover him till then. He was always an outside chance of making the squad anyway.

Looks like we’re going to be stuck with tall Paul and Djenepo

The Onuachu one is really interesting, he hasn't had a look in and isn't really being integrated - clearly doesn't fit any sort of style we're trying. Paid a decent wedge, but may not even make the bench in the Championship.

I didn’t think it would be possible to make a worse signing than Carillo but somehow we did

I honestly don't think he's as bad as Carillo. I may have only been the Belgian league but he knows how to put the ball in the net. If he stays we surely have to try and extract more value out of him and give him a chance.

I hope you’re right. At least TP did have a goal scoring record when he joined, Carillo was so obviously a shit signing it was hilarious watching divs on here trying to make out he’s scored one in two throughout his career 🤣

maybe we can get a tune out of him as late sub or something but he seems to be the exact opposite of what Martin wants in a player

He was solid tonight.

Showed a little pace, made a strong headed clearance and a very good block.

Always available to receive and played some decent passes.

Hope we keep him and give him a chance. Better than Woods and Edwards.

ABK-THB-Bednarek

That would be a solid back 3.

So...

Switch KWP back to right back, so Stephens can play left back?

Just get a sale for KWP and play Stephens at Left back?

Or add Stephens into that back 3 for a novel 6-3-1 formation?

🙂

Look, we know it wouldn’t happen because Stephens somehow is guaranteed a starting spot.

SHOULD be;

KWP-ABK-Beds-THB-Suga

WILL be as it has been last two games.

Shouldn't be a back 5/3.

On the Forest showing, Stephens isn't getting dropped. THB might though.

Just heard about Martin comments. Sounds like he's still going in this window. Big shame for me.

TBH I don’t think that was ever really up for contention, he was just getting a run out. Possibly as a bit of a public show of fitness after the Hoffenheim situation.

Yep, that was my first thought too when he came on. May even have been a bit of a two fingered gesture towards Hoffenheim about it too, given how badly they appeared to deal with the situation... "look, he's fit to play you muppets"...

I’m not sure he’s ever played for Martin, so he’s going on what he’s been told. ABK’s talent has never been in doubt but he’s earned his bad reputation. Much of it was earned in a shitshow season when we had lots of dressing room issues. But Martin has also earned his reputation as a good man manager so I wonder who has convinced him not to even try to rehabilitate ABK.

Can you ever convince a player to stay that doesn't want to be here and thinks he's too good for us?

Is this actually true though?

I'd be amazed if he thinks he's too good for us, given the incredibly small number of games he's played anywhere in the past 2 years.

Worth remembering he was bigging him up last year saying he was huge or something like that. Something must have happened.

Recognizing that inflated egos are welded into most modern players, I still think we’ve had more than our fair share of really good players with bad attitudes. It’s very frustrating and it makes me wonder if there’s something on the inside at the root of it. Hate selling players like that but sometimes there’s little choice.

Yeah this story about his attitude seems to have come from nowhere with no real evidence.

Yep, really want ABK to stay.

If Russ perseveres with a 5 man back line, then Suga, THB, Bednarek, ABK, KWP would be a superb back line for a newly promoted team. Add Ramsdale to that too. I guess it depends on whether anyone comes in for him. Same with TP, although with ABK coming on yesterday, it shows that perhaps he isn't as frozen out as TP is.
