Was excellent today. He looks strong, fast, good on the ball and confident. Can’t fault him at all. Needs a little more composure at the end of his forward runs but that’ll come in time. Should have been MOTM in my opinion.

Appears to have it all. We’ll do well to keep him for more than 2 seasons. Will go to a top club for very big money

That was as good a performance you will see from a centre half so young who only has a few games under his belt in the Premier League.  This lad is going to be some player and we'll likely only get to enjoy him this season if he continues to perform on that level. He's probably already on Liverpool's radar.

Bloke has got a swagger about him, makes things look easy. Enjoy him whilst he's here I say! Salisu will get better with someone like him alongside him.

It's so frustrating that Gao meant we wasted so many seasons persisting with Bednarek

Got a swiss mate who is a bochum fan and he said "he is quality, agressive, goodish with the ball at his feet and has pace, played a lot this year.

Expect him to make mistakes as he is young but expect him to be very good over the long run".

Here is a scout report i just found as well - seems exactly what I was saying needs to happen - defenders can push up and condense the play to win the ball back easier.

"Bochum, under head coach Thomas Reis, always try to squeeze the game. They push up the pitch and pressure the ball to win it back as quickly as possible, before transitioning into fast and direct attacks. That proactive approach suits Bella-Kotchap as the excellent front-foot defender that he is".

His first instinct is to press up onto and engage the immediate threat, and he reads and reacts to developing situations quickly. Bella-Kotchap is very good at stepping up to intercept passes, pressure the receiver’s touch, or disrupt their next action. He overwhelms attackers in physical duels, cutting in ahead of them to intercept a pass, wrapping one of his long legs around them to disrupt their touch, and hulking over them to power into headers."

Finally a scouting report that was right

If the kids stays injury free he is going to be a top top centre back. I'd struggle to think of a better CB performance at this level from someone as young as that. Certainly at saints. Isn't he 19 or 20?

He’s 20.  21 in December.

We should also remember that he’d been playing German league football for 4 years when we signed him, making 4, 12 and 28 appearances in Bundesliga 2 before getting promoted then playing 22 games in the first division. 66 league games in all. So he’s slightly different to the likes of Livramento and Lavia who have come in with little to none first team appearances, ABK has a decent amount of experience to him already.

I haven't seen anyone mention the incident toward the end of the game when Utd lobbed a ball out wide right towards Ronaldo. The ball went over ABKs head and Ronaldo picked it up and set off toward goal. ABK started behind Ronaldo but overtook him deep into the penalty area and launched a superb tackle to save the situation. Superb!

Thought that was Salisu…

What the chances that he gets called up by Germany for the World Cup in Dec ?

He has been playing really well in the last couple of games and his form has not gone unnoticed by the "London Media" I have been told.

? Are there currently four better German CBs ?

(As it stands we are going to lose JWP and Salisu ?? for the WC, it would be nice from a Saints point of view that the rest had a good 5 week rest )

I'd say he's got  Sule, Rudiger, Kehrer and Tah all in front of him.

As it stands we may only lose JWP and Salisu, but even that's not for sure. Not sure if Salisu is playing for Ghana yet, although he'd be nuts to miss a world cup chance.

It's good for us as it gives the core of our team a chance to recharge, similar to what we did in lockdown.

What's the story behind Salisu not playing for his country thus far? Did I read a while back that he had fallen out with the Ghanaian hierarchy and refused to play? Or did I imagine that?

More performances like that and it won't be much longer.

A MOTM performance tonight in a win for Saints would alert the big boys. He was the best player on the pitch on Saturday and you couldn’t even choose him on the BBC Team of the Week. 🙄 If he’d scored one of his chances he’d have been picked by Crooks for sure.

Personally I hope he goes under the radar for as long as possible. Already you can see ABK and Salisu will make an excellent pairing this season. Hopefully they can stay fit. A back line of Tino, ABK, Salisu and KWP sounds tasty.

His reading of the game is phenomenal. Best CB we’ve had since Van Dijk

Yep, they just showed his defending on the BT roundup, just in the right place at the right time. Looks like not much phases him either, he just gets on with things. Quality player.

Looked every bit a £60m+ defender in the last 3 games. An absolute steal at £8M

Reminds me of John Terry. Some of the tackles he put in tonight and against Utd were outrageously good

Hats off to the scouting department
