I don't pay any attention to his views or opinions. For me it's what he did on the pitch that counts. He gave me some of the most memorable moments I have ever experienced watching my team. I would suspect that is true for anyone of my generation too. The guy was an absolute genius with a football. That's all I am bothered about

Like you I enjoyed watching my fellow Islander score some incredible goals for the one and only club he played for professionally.  He certainly was an amazing footballer. He is entitled to his opinions however strange they may appear to some of us. I do think he has a point about being almost forced to wear a Black Lives Matter badge.

At this point, who can blame him.  He's obviously talking complete and utter, baseless garbage, but once you've done that long enough there's no going back so you might as well embrace it.

That's exactly it. Like it's now his 'gimmick'. I'm not convinced David Ike believes half the stuff he says.

He was a fantastic football player and servant to the club. His views shouldn't really matter as much as they seem to (to some people) outside of that imo.

I certainly can't imagine getting so upset personally about the personal thoughts of an ex football player - unless they were deeply offensive / racist etc. Just comes across as odd to me. Just be happy for the great memories imo.

Yep  If MLT was the only one put out to pasture, he may have a point, but this is demonstrably not what happened.

Downfall? Do you really think that? I think you will find he is okay. And rest safe in the knowledge that we wants you to be able to express your point of view, even if he happens to disagree with it. That is part of the freedoms we have grown up with.

And that is something I personally hope continues.

Might well have played a part, some were kept on. I expect him acting like a fruit loop on social media made it an easy decision.

It is worrying when somebody who seems to be arguing that you should just keep an open mind is ridiculed as being a 'thick as mince' footballer. I find him quite eloquent in the defense of his sometimes odd social media comments and it may not be the most orthodox barometer of intelligence but he did pretty well on Countdown. It seems that you are allowed to tweet if the mob agree with you. The 'Two legs bad four legs good' crowd would benefit from taking his advice and do a little bit more research into their opinions.

I will always judge him on his extraordinary loyalty to us when he was one of the best players in the world if not the best and remarkably stayed with us. Probably as importantly, I will gauge him on what he has done and continues to do in our community. He has always been prepared to give up his time. Always a legend in my book.

If you are talking about the vaccine I heard him defend his stance by saying that the vaccines were given the all clear far more quickly than the regulatory norm and that had its risks. Many in the medical profession agreed. It was a relatively mainstream argument but I did my research and thought the pros outweighed the cons and opted to have the vaccine, in fact I would have bitten your hand off for it!

I don't get why anyone can call him a 'fruit loop' or whatever for voicing his opinion over the last couple of years. Isn't everyone entitled to say what they think? And if anything he's been proved right imo about the whole covid thing. Just the fact that it's almost disappeared off the radar after having us all locked down for all that time and now it's suddenly nothing? Wouldn't even know it had ever happened bar the odd 'fruit loop' that still walks around alone on the street wearing a mask or sat on their own car alone wearing a mask. Sadly this will be their lives forever due to the brainwashing that went on. Still get people that believed the whole thing even after all the government piss ups at a time when people were apparently dropping dead all over the place. They must have been really concerned about it all. Now we are getting shafted left right and centre with costs of everything. The whole thing was a test of control and 90% of people followed every word like degenerates

with minority groups to tick a few boxes. Now, I don't mind all this sort of stuff, but I believe I am right in saying 13% of the population are black yes? So why are over 50% of the people I see on BBC and ITV reporting and on studios black or Asian etc? Hardly representative is it.

Covid has not disappeared but has been brought under some kind of control by the vaccinations . The main driver for resuming "normal behaviour" is to try and restore the economy . Boris treated covid with disrespect and it came close to killing him so even he realised it wasn't bullshit . Matt , who I've met at an evening with show , came across as a good friendly bloke so his latest persona seems weird to me .

Ignoring for a moment the blatant contradiction between your statement and your username.

I refer back to my previous point about people lacking the intelligence to engage in proper critical thinking.

If it was all just a test of control then please tell me how you explain the notion that every government in the world (even ones that have been at each other's throats for decades/centuries) managed to agree to it, with the cooperation of pretty much the entire global medical and scientific community, managed to enact their plan without a single whistle-blower coming out and releasing some of the memos/emails/phone recordings, of which there would need to be a mountain of in order for such a plan to succeed.

For such a conspiracy to have taken place, millions of people around the world would need to be in on it, and not one person has so far managed to produce a single shred of evidence to support this. Not a single email, or letter, or covert recording. Nothing.

It simply isn't possible, and it's beyond barmy to suggest otherwise.

We've all seen how hopelessly inept our government is over the last few years. Johnson is a total clown whose ego far outstrips his intelligence or ability. For him and his party (and all the opposition parties too) to have successfully been involved in some massive global plan to deceive the entire population would suggest a degree of competence and organisation far beyond that which they have been able to demonstrate in any other area of government.

And yet despite having all the facts and figures at their disposal that no one outside government saw, the figures saying how many people will die, they still had parties while others died alone

Someone, somewhere is telling porkies, and questioning the information is sensible

Can we throw Tory's in there too because of how daft, deluded and out of touch they are with the real world? (The majority of them anyway).

As Benjamin Franklin famously said, “Two people can keep a secret if one of them is dead”.

although it could be an unconscious conspiracy where governments etc dont know they are in a conspiracy.

No contradiction with yours. Old latin or not, you still come across as a bit of a fanny.
Covid was a power and wealth grab. The country has been bankrupted for a flu virus.
People got rich. While our children have to live with debt.
Let me guess, you are a retired 'alright jack' sort with some big opinions. Good luck luck pal, don't fret about the cold too much.

No way is Covid a flu virus , fortunately the latest variants are not so debilitating . Do you wonder why China has gone full tonto with a zero Covid cases scenario ? Only China knows where Covid came from and how serious a virus it is . The fruit bat bush meat theory was soon put out there and the CIA virus escape from germ warfare lab in the same city was heavily denied by China .

As to the affect on rich people and poor people this is the usual result , very rich people can isolate , use private jets etc while the common man has to just exist . During the plague years well off people moved out to their country piles while the poor were buried in mass graves. Read the shorter Sam Pepys for confirmation.

The anti vax stuff is tame compared to some of the shite he comes out with, notably:

Saying Christian Eriksen had his heart attack because of the covid vaccine, despite the fact he wasn't vaccinated.

Saying people dying from covid in hospital were actors

Saying Ukranians being murdered by Russians in Bucha were actors (and then brushing it off by saying "I meant don't believe everything you read" and then dribbling down his chin a bit more)

He is obviously right about some things, the government being clowns and Jamie Carraghers continued employment come to mind, but some of the stuff he posts is quite frankly dangerous and outweighs the good.

I'll continue to disagree with anyone who says he should be applauded for not taking the popular line. Going on youtube and watching some videos made by crackpot conspiracists and falling for it hook line and sinker is not "doing your own research", it's being an absolute idiot.

It's almost like real life, some people say some things. Some things are popular or unpopular, just like the crap on this forum.  I don't agree with Matt's waffle, but it's his waffle and if this was 20 years ago we'd probably have no idea of his (or anyone else's) views.  I've found it's easier to just switch off.

(BTW not picking on you, just the first post to reply to)

It is easier just to switch off but there are a lot of impressionable people out there who chose not to so anyone spreading misinformation should be called out in my opinion. Club legend or otherwise.

Twitter isn't the place for debate unfortunately. Too easy just to spout your shite and delete a tweet when you get called out on it or just say "you're missing the context".

Boris got covid at a very convenient time. At a time where it would cause the most concern amongst the 90% of people that didn't believe the bullshit. It didn't come close to killing him, if it did he wouldn't be pissing it up afterwards whilst shutting the country down. I've not had any of the vaccines. It's bollocks. And I wouldn't allow any of my kids to have any covid vaccines. The ones they have after a few weeks old yes. They've been researched and tested for many years. Not something randomly made up on the spot

But a lot of the covid shit you saw on TV on the news was acted out. The hospital's had never been so empty while the bullshit was going on because the poor people that would normally have been in there for tests/operations/ minor surgery had it all cancelled. Remember when it was apparently at its 'peak' and all you saw were doctors and nurses doing tiktok videos that clearly had a lot of time spent choreographing these dances that involved 20/30 staff? Yeah funny that's died a death since they are back busy dealing with actual patients and not empty hospitals. And my wife works for the NHS and she and all her workmates knew it was a massive load of bollocks. Trouble is all the doctors and nurses that spoke up at the time got sacked. Funny that

There's a lot of impressionable people that believe what they hear on the news and all other mainstream media. It's hilarious you talk about misinformation when they are the biggest culprits. They feed the bullshit they're told to by the bent government. The majority of the country at one point was testing all the time to find out if they were ill or not🤣 it's just ridiculous. I had to stay off work at one point because I gave a lift to someone who got it 2 days later. I had to bullshit and say I got a positive test because I could go back after 6 days.otherwise I had to do 10 days
