Considering the absolute state of their country it's pretty incredible that Haiti manage to get a team together, yet alone qualify for the World Cup.

They'll no doubt get a bit of a pasting today but being there is a great achievement by the team.

I'd doubt that many of the Haitian girls play their football in Haiti.  Think at least two or three of them play in the French League, Haiti being francophone in parts.

The English don''t look all that good so far. Still it's only the first game, probably doing an Italy, scrape through the group stage and then get much better.

Have you photoshopped that fucker’s hairy hands?

Rachel Daly is a top person by all accounts. She grew up near us and used to play for a local kids club where we live and was back opening the new club house recently. Everyone said how great she was.

Been quite a frustrating watch, some reasonable passages of play but England just seem to shit the bed when they get in sight of the goal and make some horrendous decisions.

Yep one to touch or pass too many, all a bit loose and poor decisions.

Despite the hype they do all seem nice girls and a genuinely good group

Wtf?  The game that ended twice?

They think it's all over...

Good to see the subs make a difference. England did have a lot more dominance that half. But it was Earps that kept their lead.

Some issues about being susceptible to covering through balls. Some issues about when to make those key passes. A little too keen sometimes, a little too wary at others.

They will look to improve on this, and it will help keep everything focused. I wasn't expecting Haiti to be so decent, with a number doing well in French football. Good to see strength and depth across the competition.

3 points, and bring on the next game.

Thought the England women were poor. Got lucky with the penalty as certainly wasn't a clear and obvious handball, Haiti should have equalised late on - was a good save.

All a bit flat, and does seem like they've let the Euro's and all the attention go to their heads prematurely - reality is that without a strong showing in this tournament its not worth much.

Not a clear and obvious handball?

Are you mental?

She tried to bat it away like she was playing volleyball, you could see it bend her fingers.

No, the ball trajectory didn't change at all in the views I've seen, no visible evidence of a connection, so no evidence that it impacted her fingers... she could just as easily have been moving her hand to avoid the ball... So it isn't clear and obvious and it's a lucky pen, and one that was well saved initially given the keeper is 5'4" especially.

I find it really interesting the difference in nations that make the women’s World Cup compared to the men’s. Unlikely to see Vietnam, Philippines or Haiti at the men’s World Cup any time soon

Unless FIFA awards it to one of them as hosts. Or expands the competition to 128 teams.

I didn't spot it initially. But the replay shows the arms going up to the ball. A closer look shows part of the hand bend back, at the moment the ball goes past it. It didn't look like a natural movent, needing some impact to have happened.

I get the point on the trajectory. It seemed to slow the ball fractionally, rather than divert it.

VAR working well. The same for the goalkeeper encroachment for the initial save. Very clear on the replay.

The game on now is f-ing woeful

Quality of the tournament as a whole so far is pretty poor, the Euros was much better. Probably a consequence of the expanded teams. Reckon it'll pick up as we move into the knockouts.

To be honest, who really cares?  Despite the continuous virtue signaling saying how womens football is more exciting, how it's so popular, etc. - it really isn't and is a sub par product compared to mens football.  Same can be true of most sports simply because of the genetic differences.

And before I get shouted down, then why are so many womens sports up in arms about transgender individuals being allowed to play womens sports (and destroying the true female field)?

I wish that mens and womens sports simply were not compared to each other - they are so different.  It's fantastic that womens sport has more coverage now and encourages participation but it cannot be compared.

The number of teams in this World Cup is ridiculous and dilutes any real competition.

Can't watch that clip right now so not sure what their explanation is but yeah that doesn't make any sense.

Well the women trying to support it were basically at a loss and just kept saying that’s what they want to be and where else are they meant to play.

just caught the national anthems of Portugal v Vietnam. I thought it was two lines of mascots when the Vietnam one came on, the players are only slightly taller than the mascots. Why on earth is this on ITV1? I know they're desperate to promote womens football but dear me.

Vietnams qualification record was 2 wins and 3 defeats out of 6 games, with minus 5 goal difference - good to know that sort of performance gets your to a WC 😅

England are really poor give the ball away so easily.
Get 25 yards from goal and clueless is Selles manager?

They have lost four of their best players in the run up to the tournament and it looks like Walsh is out now too. A Semi-Final would be a great tournament in my opinion with the loss of talent the side has experienced.

Haven't watched much of this world cup so far, but from what I have seen, the standard of refereeing has been appalling.

For some reason decided to watch the last 15 minutes or so of China v Haiti.

Haiti were awarded one penalty, in about the 85th minute, which was given immediately by the ref. Then for some reason it was over turned when the ref looked at the monitor (it definitely would have been a soft penalty, but not soft enough for it to be over turned) (side note, are the referees mic'd up in this world cup to announce VAR decisions over the tannoy? Looked like it/sounded like it...?).

Then a few minutes later there was another penalty shout. The easiest penalty decision you'll ever see, but it wasn't given, or even checked by VAR.

Then the last kick of the game there could (arguably) have been another penalty for Haiti, which again wasn't checked. Haiti's manager did get booked for complaining about it though.
