I had my red and white face paint with whiskers so like a lioness. All for nothing though as missus was watching some scifi bollocks so I didn’t watch it.

Different discussion in our house. We were loving it when the missus came in and said “womens football and it’s a friendly, aren’t you scraping the barrel now”

ro which my nine year old replied “these girls are legends what a disgusting comment, you didn’t say that when we were watching the mens team a few weeks ago, there is no room for sexism in our house, get in the bin”

Didn't understand why the crowd were giving Rapinoe so much grief. She always plays fair with here comments about other teams and the game in general. And front and centre about the abuse scandal hitting their game there.

What scandal is that? Don't tell me the equal pay nonsense. You do know the package they agreed previously meant they got paid more than the men both on a per game basis and overall, and they STILL complained?

She is an outspoken woman which is enough for many people to take against her . Sometimes she can be too full on so what point she is trying to make is lost. We are scratching our heads wondering what the problem is as her view so distant from our perception .

On here I mean. During the summer some people wouldn’t shut about it. Unless they were all at Wembley interest seems to have completely died

Has it occurred to you that the constant barrage of snidey and sarcastic posts from you and a few others whenever the subject of women's football is brought up might have turned people off from wanting to discuss it here? No, I expect it hasn't.

I watched it. I enjoyed it. I didn't feel the need to post on here about it.

Nothing to do with pay. Everything to do with sexual abuse and exploitation as documented in the Yates report about the US NWSL.

Sorry not everyone has the same opinion as you.

Surprised there hasn’t been a post on this from the large swathes of people on here championing how great the ladies game is only a few months ago. It looks like the lionesses beat Brazil tonight to win some tournament most of us didn’t know what happening until they won it. Surprisingly really given how many people on here were desperate for everyone to know how great woman’s football is only a few months ago

Until Marty Semmens provides his expert context I'm not interested.

Very little point bringing it up on here as you either get minimal response or a sarcastic one, but I watched the game, cheered when they scored and won, and thoroughly enjoyed the performance. Best womens team in the world right now and on course to dominate the world cup.

Opinions? One way to make the small crowds even smaller I guess.

Yeah, I imagine they'll get a higher viewership overall but lower crowds. Trouble is the majority of people already have a team to go and support - the men's team. Take this season for example, we'll already have three games a week for most of the season. People are then expected to go a fourth time? You're supposed to justify to your other half that over half the week you're spending your evening or majority of your daytime at the football? And get enough time off of work for it as well?

I don't know why they can't just accept it for what it is. Nobody complains about needing to get crowd numbers up at hockey matches.

Yeah it would suggest lower crowds. But then Saturday an and Sunday evening aren't great either. Perhaps there would be interest from people who don't go to many away games, but that's assuming the fixtures align nicely for you.

Disappointing to see Hayes and Levy argue for a closed shop. The first response should be asking them if they mind Chelsea and Spurs dropping down a league before it's closed. I'm sure they'd see it differently.

More disappointed by Hayes really, we know Levy is a self-interested shit. Ellen White, amongst many others, disagrees.

I have only been to watch them a couple of times as although I watch and play football I only have so much time to devote to it. As the article says, at the moment there's a large element of grassroots players in the crowd so it's difficult finding a time which doesn't clash, which is my personal experience as well.

I think they're being naïve thinking that people aren't watching women's football because the 3pm game isn't televised. If it is the only football on, I'll watch it because I'm getting to recognise lots of the players now and I enjoy the competition. The reality is though, 3pm on a Saturday I'm normally going to be watching Saints or out and about on away weekends.

The bigger issue is the scheduling of the games overall, which should accommodate better the reality that the majority of fans of women's football are families and existing fans of the men's team. To me it seems straightforward- you have women's matches at the stadium when the men's team are playing away, so that any fans who aren't travelling can go.

Was listening to a report on the radio early this morning where they said 1.5 million tickets have been sold for the tournament which is pretty incredible.

It's pretty big in Australia. New Zealand struggled with ticket sales, they recently gave away 20,000 extra.

That is impressive especially as the KOs times are stupidly early

Considering the absolute state of their country it's pretty incredible that Haiti manage to get a team together, yet alone qualify for the World Cup.

They'll no doubt get a bit of a pasting today but being there is a great achievement by the team.

Not seeing enough going forward from Stanway, Hemp or Toone and Russo's finishing is inconsistent at best. Should drop one of the first three for Daly and have Russo holding the ball up with Daly getting on the end of passes/crosses as she's the much better finisher.

Wiegman relying too much on the reliable players from her tenure and putting too much faith in Toone and Russo's partnership from United whilst leaving the WSLs top scorer on the bench.

Yeah, Haiti have looked decent. Looking to catch England up the park, and exploit the space.

England are without some key players, through retirement and injury. Still plenty of talent in there, but some of the former subs now have to step up to starters.

England struggling recently for goals. Had it not been for the handball, they would have gone in level. Hemp looks to be the one to unlock their defence, offering that bit of creativity.

Sorry to see the Haitian injury. She looked in a lot of pain, so hope for a quick recovery.

Good game.

I find it really interesting the difference in nations that make the women’s World Cup compared to the men’s. Unlikely to see Vietnam, Philippines or Haiti at the men’s World Cup any time soon

God you lot are so boring. If you aren't interested then just don't post.

We’re interested in it, I’m watching it. Just wondering why more people aren’t talking about it
