Lots of rumours in papers & they are just that! why would he eat humble pie & return to us & why would we pay high wages?

Just can't see it happening can you?

Would you want him back with the injury record?

7 goals 6 assists from 30 games for villa, is that on par with that we already have?

He’s significantly better than what we have.

That being said, I’d rather we spent a little extra on Broja or Dennis.

If we could bring him back for something in the region of what we paid for Armstrong, which would effectively mean we sent him on loan to Villa for a season for £15m, that would be cracking business.

Very much doubt he’ll end up back here though. Would still be a solid back up option to Kane at Tottenham imo.

A little extra?  Isn't Broja rumoured to be going for £40m+???

There would be so much humble pie having to be eaten from both sides before it happened there's just no way it will.

I don't see what we'd need to be humble about. We offered him our biggest ever contract to stay and he declined, not much more to it than that on our part. It's hardly as if he came begging for a new contract and we told him, "f**k off, we're getting Haaland next summer!"

By the same token, I'm not sure what Ings needs to be humble about.  He didn't kick up a fuss or force his way out, he simply ran down his contract so we decided to sell.

There are plenty of players who left on bad terms, but I don't see Ings as one of them.

Seriously? He may not have left on bad terms but he wanted to go to Villa to challenge for European places (his words, not mine), obviously Southampton wasn’t big enough for him. So you don’t see coming back with his tail between his legs as eating humble pie? Ok, well it’s irrelevant cos it won’t happen

He could have been a Saints legend, but chose to go and win things at a bigger club instead.

While I admire his talents and his ambition, and thank him for what he did for us, that career move was fucking dreadful and should haunt him forever.

Would definitely have him back assuming the fee is half of what we sold him for or less. Would be good business to be honest, he’s a guarantee of probably 10 goals if he’s fit for 25+ games a season, there aren’t many players you can say that about and we definitely need it.

I loved him here, i’ve wished him nothing but the worst since he left, and i’d welcome him back in a heartbeat. That’s just what being a fan is about 😄 everyone would forget he ever left once he’s scored for the first time.

Don’t see him returning though, sadly.

Depends whether you consider him coming back as him having his tail between his legs. Did Davies come back like that? Did Channon?

Plenty of people return to a previous employer later in their career.  He did what he thought was best and, potentially, things didn't work out how he hoped. No shame in that

For cheap? Sure.

Last day of the transfer window and we still only have Adams, Armstrong, Long and N'Lundulu as our strikers? Sure.

Him for cheap AND another new young striker? Defo.

Him instead of another striker we deem to be good enough Broja style? Nah.

Ings had his time here and left. I could get on board with it as a signing alongside another young striker but not as our only striker signing of the window. Anyway I bet his wages are high.

He went for the money on offer. An extra 20 or 30 thousand a week made the difference. I think he knew that a top 6 club was never going to come in for him. All felt a bit rushed at the time and it seemed that Villa were the only club in for him

He was a standout player who kept us up, on his own, just the way JWP has this season. If he wanted to strike while the iron was hot, while he was at the top of his game, then why not? Villa look / looked like they are om the way up, we were, and possibly still area, heading the other way. He is not a fan, he owes us nothing other than to give us his best whilst we were paying his wages which he absolutely did. I don't particular want him to come back, but I do not bear him any grudges for trying to better himself.

Many of us here think that the season to come will be a critical one for us if we are to survive in the Premiership. Reasons are that clubs who we thought we were on a par with have now clearly moved away from us with bigger budgets than us and 2 of the 3 promoted clubs look stronger than the norm.

So, we might just be fighting for that one last relegation spot. Very fine margins will decide. So, in my opinion, if Ings does re-sign......and I realise it will be down to fee and wages.......if he plays say 15-18 games because of his fitness. And he scores say 6- 7 goals in those games, they might very well be key to our survival. Bearing in mind that the rest of our strike force....Adams, Armstrong and whoever else plays up front can barely manage 10-12 goals betweeen them.

So, yes, if the deal is right, I would have him back in a heartbeat. He is a proven goalscorer and boy do we need one of those !  I have no ill feelings against him wanting to move on last year. If we are all honest it is what most of us would have done if offered a bigger salary. And I think most Saints fans would welcome him back too.

Just my 2 pennies worth

Yes please let's brings Danny back home :) proven top quality striker which we desperately need. And yes he did grow up supporting the club for anyone that seems to know otherwise! He stated that back when he first joined in 2018 :)

I don't get the fuss over ings (the way he left or him potentially rejoining). He was an good player undervalued by others that we took a chance on - he did well for saints, and we sold him on for a tidy profit. If people can't handle this then I don't know how they're going to survive life as a saints fan tbh - turning transfer profits will be our life blood if we're going to be successful with the new owners.

There's no doubting that he's better than anyone we've got in attack, but that's not exactly hard.

Like others, I don't see the value in looking backwards. He was great for us, he would still score goals for us for sure, but there are other players out there who would also score goals for us and (as sad as it is to say) potentially provide a decent sell on in the future. Ings wouldn't.

Why would we want the treacherous b****** back here, he's only interested in money and has zero interest in playing for Saints.

As opposed to all the other players we sign who aren't at all interested in money and are just doing it out of a lifelong love of Saints...

As there are no other credible rumours on strikers at the moment maybe this one does have legs...even if Danny boy doesn't. Let's face it, we need someone who can score and we don't have that with our current squad so I'd take him back for 1/2 the price we sold him at and a reduced offer. 2 year contract only and if he walks on a free after that and if he keeps us in the Premier League then its worth it.

no id rather not swallow my pride and that we spent another 15m on a shyte championship striker that cant trap a bag of cement or hit a cows arse with a banjo please.

I'd rather we committed to three years of paying Danny Ings £100k a week because it is absolutely impossible to find anyone anywhere better and cheaper like Broja because those players simply do not exist.

If the price is right and he wants to return get it down.

Easily would be the best attacker we have. You would have to be a absolute sandwich to turn him down...

Only an absolute sandwich would turn down a 30 year old with dodgy knees, who’s just scored 7 goals in a season? If his name was Fred Bloggs and he had no prior connection to Saints, would you still be raving about his calibre of player?
