2022/23 Fixtures - Spurs (a) First

Just noticed that the fixtures are due out this coming Thursday. What's the opinion on what would be a decent start fixture wise for the new season? Preferably, would fancy a home game against Leeds, Brentford or Everton, if away maybe Wolves or Villa. Not keen on meeting any of the promoted sides too early, as they tend to still have that feel good factor. Going to be a strange season with the World Cup break in November/December. Not sure when the best time would be for facing the top six, either after the World Cup or the few weeks leading up to the start. Personally, if we have to have any of the big boys in the opening weeks would rather face Arsenal and Man United rather than Man City or Liverpool.

I'm away on holiday for the first game of the season, so an away game where I don't fancy going would do. City away maybe? Haaland v Bednarek (if he's still here) doesn't bear thinking about...

I think as with most years, avoid the promoted teams like you said. Ideally you want the promoted teams around Nov just before the WC, when they start to flag and lose their bounce and before they can fix it in January.

I love to start the season at home and finish it at home, we had both start and end away this year which doesn't give you the best chance for a good start (or good finish).

I bet they do not struggle against newly promoted team. I take it we are just talking Saints record against newly promoted because I bet if you look at it, they really normally do not do that well. If they do then they do alright for the whole season. 

we will play everyone twice over the season and hopefully scrape together 40 points somehow.

Already had it this morning, Daily Mail posted a list that took about 2 seconds of glancing over to realise it was bollocks... so like everything else the Daily Mail publishes.

Exactly. Stephens will pull off one his prime shithouse performances before clattering Haaland and forcing him off injured.

Aguero in his prime failed to score against a defence including Jos Hooiveld and Danny Fox, so anything's possible.

I think there have been '3' variants of fixtures so far. The latest see's us against Spurs

I hope we get anything that will keep our match on a Saturday at 3pm, I suspect City, Liverpool and United are bankers to be on the telly first up, so a Palace/Brighton midtable fixture would be good.

Also would expect Nottingham to be on TV having spent 23 years out the PL.

I think if we get say 6 to 7 of last season's top 10 in our fixtures leading up to the WC break, and then start poorly, it could be curtains for Ralph. 

The 30 days off and any perceived easier fixtures after that break would be an opportune time to get someone else in. 

Roll on tomorrow, the annual calendar planning begins.
