Best performance at St Mary’s this season

They were incredible tonight. Not fair to call it the best performance this season though as Saints did set the bar ridiculously fucking low on that one.

Bars were a shambles, my only gripe of the evening. That and sharing the pitch with mongs shouting blue army.

They must have loved it when Brandon Flowers said to cheer band as if you were cheering a Southampton goal

Were they playing cover versions then because their own songs are shit?

There’s always one. Bet you hate it when your obscure indie bands become famous?

They did cover a Roberta Flack The First Time….

I don't think any of them have unless you maybe count Fontaines?

I'm not that into indie anyway. I just like going to a couple of gigs a week, supporting local venues and promotors and seeing bands come through.

Fontaines are good I prefer Murder Capital

Oh yeah Murder Capital are better than Fontaines.

My current favourite Irish band are Just Mustard. Worth a listen for any shoegaze fans.

What gigs have there been at St Mary's?

Bon Jovi, Rolling Stones, Robbie Williams, Take That and Killers. Any others?

We really should have more, it's a good revenue earner for the club and good for the city.

I generally only like bands until other people have heard of them, then they become shit and mainstream and I move onto liking other bands no one has heard of

He did Rose Bowl too didn't he? Seem to remember people moaning about traffic chaos afterwards.

Or maybe, I like music and there's thousands of good bands and artists and it just so happens that I prefer some of the lesser know ones to those who are more mainstream.

Not sure what's wrong with that?

TBH The Killers aren’t up there with bands I would hugely listen to but they do put on a good live show. And last night was excellent.

Remember they did a Smiths cover at Glastonbury

Agreed, it’s one of the easier stadia to visit south of London for parking and transport, and holds a decent enough crowd to make it viable as a tour venue.

Still holding out to one day see Muse and The Foos at St Mary’s. The thing I love about having gigs here is that I can be home in half hour rather than having to fight onto the tube, or train and have a few hours until I’m home.

Not sure but I know they have a gary glitter tribute act on at Fratton Park next month. I heard tickets sold out in minutes.

Do you think Dave and Co will still continue? Big shoes to fill in Taylor's

I really don’t know, the basic view on it would be that they could get another drummer in, however we know what an incredible drummer Taylor was, and how integral he was to the band, as well as basically being a brother to Dave. Losing Kurt and then Taylor he might decide fuck it and spend the rest of his days in happy retirement spending time with his family. Dave could even go solo and be a drumming frontman. Cancelling their entire tour rather than postponing it is pretty serious business though and would have come at a huge cost, that in itself may point towards the end.

That poll is immediately null and void for not having Rammstein in it. Easily the best live band I've ever seen by a country mile. Also, Rage against the Machine, really? The most boring live band I've witnessed. Kiss followed them at Finsbury Park and blew them off the stage, another great live band that isn't included.

Only my opinion, but I'm so right! 😉

Interesting that enough NME readers managed to see Jimi Hendrix live to vote him into this poll.

I can just about accept that some have seen Nirvana, but again unlikely seeing as they didn't play that many UK gigs and Kurt Cobain died over 25 years ago.

Also Muse as number 1? Best of all time? Give over.

OSees are the best live band I've ever seen. Been to 12 of their shows. No need for any massive stage production when you can just plug in and play like they do. John Dwyer is an absolute God.

getting that 1-0 win v. Arsenal at SMS probably saved us from the drop zone ............

There's always one who has to bring it back to football on a football forum. As we only got to 1 home game, it has to be Villa, it was a win that we actually played well in.

We finished 15th and 5 points clear of the drop zone. Reckon fans need to stop evaluating the season quite so harshly. It was a dissapointing end to the season, but we weren't in a relegation scrap for even a single game week and were basically safe after 27games (35points)... The fact we only got 5 more points after that is just very poor. 🤷‍♂️

As previously mentioned The Killers were terrific but as for SFC…..

Chatted to another Saints fan in the queue for the bar (obviously a lengthy chat) and once we’d finished on the team we got onto the ground. Concourse areas are a shambles and there is nothing ‘Saints’ about the ground. The Amex has posters of ex Brighton players (most of whom I’ve never heard of) but there is no nod to our past unless you count the tatty effort on the bridge.

Anyway finally got to the bar and asked for a bitter, lager, cider and a glass of wine. Came away with 4 lagers as they’d run out of everything else!

Sorry but I could think of a few stronger phrases than " just very poor ".   We got an epic win at Tottenham, two great performances v. West Ham

and secured 4 draws against the two Manchester sides.  We weren't anywhere near the same after the defeat at Villa...and continued to go downhill

and let it all slip in what should have been... a relatively easy run-in (with the exception of Chelsea and Liverpool).   50 points should have been quite attainable.

Only one of the last 9 goals was scored by a striker, and thankfully there were 5 sides worse than us this season.   I'm glad there weren't another 3 games to play .

We definitely need a real makeover this summer. ..starting at the back.
