kwsaint Posted 30 May, 2022 Share Posted 30 May, 2022 Lots of media attention to recent pitch invasions, and in particular players of the opposing team being assaulted. Clearly unacceptable to make players feel unsafe. Memories of being on the pitch at SMS at the end of the 2011 and 2012 seasons. I remember both as just being fun occasions with the Walsall and Coventry supporters playing their part. No hint of anything untoward. What's changed? Any thoughts? northam soul Posted 30 May, 2022 Share Posted 30 May, 2022 Nothing has changed, FA cup semi at Highbury vs the dugout kings. That was a game we shouldn’t have lost and as for what happened after.

HarvSFC Posted 30 May, 2022 Share Posted 30 May, 2022 The one against Burnley in 2009 wasn’t as jovial, but there were enough stewards/police to keep the fans separated and no players were attacked, of course. The Championship promotion celebrations are some of my best memories standing on the pitch and watching Tommy Forecast take the glory. The players and the supporters were able to celebrate as one. We had all been on the same journey for that year and the prior two in League One and some before that in the Championship. We don’t get to celebrate a lot as Southampton fans and I hope that when we can next, heavy restrictions aren’t put in place due to others. LiberalCommunist Posted 30 May, 2022 Share Posted 30 May, 2022 Went to Villa v Wba (FA CUP SEMI) a few years ago. The one where the pitch invasion got them a record £100,000 fine. Seats were ripped out, emotions ran high. But no-one tried to deck a footballer. Nobody got hurt. Nothing got set on fire. Why o why has this shit crept in now? I don't understand it? We can barely be bothered to sing or boo, I know we've got some numpty fans as well, but the numbers of saints fans likely to run on the pitch and deck a footballer just isn't gong to be very high. Don't know if it's related or if those who have been arrested for hitting footballers were under the influence in some way
