I think he’s worth his place. He’s a constant threat with his pace and running. Clearly his finishing needs a big improvement but he was an important part of the team yesterday. He got a warm round of applause when he was substituted although he didn’t look too happy as he walked off the pitch.

I feel for him as he has a good attitude and is clearly trying, but sadly he just isn't good enough. He's basically the new Shane Long in that he runs around a lot and is a bit of a menace but you need so much more than that in the PL. He rarely even looks like scoring.

He needs to move on in January for both his sake and ours.

Who knows maybe a new manager will get more out of him. We are hardly a creative team and never seem great on the transition so there often don't seem many chances for him to use his pace in behind or have balls driven across the box so he is often feeding off scraps. Combine that with low confidence and you can probably see why he's not scoring much at all.

We have been crying out for years for a player with true 'no.10' abilities to pick out passes in around the box, through balls, quality crosses etc. The exact kind of player you'd feel Armstrong would benefit from. At the moment we seem to cross a lot aerially as a main route to goal which doesn't help him at all.

Still think there are the raw ingredients there for an effective player, just needs unlocking.

I’m not sure whether it’s baked in him, or whether it’s tactical, but he’s so rarely either in the box, or between the posts, he’s never going to score many.

From what I see, I never see him being more prolific than Shane Long ever was. I’m not really sure how he scored so many for Blackburn, but there is no way he should be starting in this league.

I respect his efforts, and he’s done ok wide left, but he always seems to be a yard off it.

Likely that wont be until next season at the earliest now so we need a credible replacement in January or promote Edozie or Tella.

I can't rate him whatsoever. His only redeeming quality is he's the only player in our 11 who has a bit of pace.

He's terrible at dribbling as demonstrated yesterday, so he doesn't even offer a positive sense of directness on the wing. He can just be a decent out ball as he can run quickly, before panicking and doing nothing with it.

Good work rate but he's definitely not a PL starter.

When he joined Saints probably thought they'd signed a new version of Kevin Phillips, instead we have a player with the attacking prowess of Emo Phillips.

If, as we hope, we do spend on a new striker in January, Adam Armstrong is the player to make way. He does work hard and seems to follow instruction but he doesn’t look like scoring or show much quality.  He has a place in the squad but we need better to partner Adam’s.

He is nothing like good enough, which is not his fault. Shane Long offered way more with his hold up play, speed and aerial ability than Adam ever will.

Like many players that do well at one team he isn't for another ie Saints . Blackburn's system and the role he was given worked for them both judging by his goals there , our system plus Prem defenders aren't working well for him here.

yeah, I think it's the prem defenders piece that is significant. in other words, he's a championship player and can't cut it in the prem
