Leicester 4-1 Saints - Match Thread

Tactic 1: High risk, high press that geives us a spell of lovely football, before it's found out and we're lucky to escape with only a few thumpings.

Tactic 2: A deeper option, looking to catch teams, not on any planned break (because we can't do taht well), but off of scraps. Two outcomes 1) we aren't good enough to keep teams out, concede and are toothless at getting back into the game, when they defend 2) We do nick a goal. But then fall back and option 1 kicks in. Both outcomes lead to  abject performances.

Today, dreadful double personal error for the first, zero concentration and marking for the third and fourth. That's a team with their confidence shot.

To be fair, there was a huge stroke of unfairness to this game. That bad sportsmanship that led to Vardy's goal... really sick.  And I thought there were plenty of moments when the team were rallying impressively.    And then at the end, real disappointment.  It's actually a pretty good metaphor for the season overall.

Personally, I have a lot of confidence in the new owners. I think we'll see some really smart, well-researched additions. And hopefully equally smart subtractions.  Can't say I'm thrilled for the new season yet. But at least it's in the premier league.  And I'm pretty certain that the reshuffle to come will bring excitement with it.

We've all cast our lot with a club where -given the £ injustices of the premier league - we're guaranteed to have a hard time a lot of the time.  We don't really have a choice about it. We're Saints supporters. I'll be ready to cheer my heart out again in a few months' time.

Take care, friends. Have a nice summer. And remember... it's only a game.

The squad is dogshit.

We don't have world beaters it true but only a poor manager blames his tools, also he has been given money to a certain extent 15 million on AA, 10 on salisu, 5 on Livramento, plus more, also he said he was happy with the team at his disposal!

I don't see how he can continue.

More braindead management again today.

Especially the so called strikers who are dire

Buying in young players is a very risky business Brighton have done well this year buying in experience over the last few years

Our strategy has proven to be OK to just miss relegation but nothing else

A mediocre squad can produce good performances with a competent manager. Our lot have zero fight, zero confidence, and zero belief - all down to Wreck It.

We've gotta be favourites for the drop next season unless things improve drastiically, the fact is our squad and manager are just not good enough to compete in this league

if RH survives the inquest into the end of this season from our new owner i would be suprised, he has to take the majority of the blame for how he have performed and by sheer fluke we have mannaged to stay up due to other teams being marginally worse

Feels like deja vu from the last few months of last season too. So depressing.

I'm a long time supporter of Ralph but we need a change. In fact we need lots of them. Manager, players, coaching staff. Without major improvement I can't see us staying up next season.

What was the bad sportsmanship people have mentioned for the Vardy goal?

Ref pulled the game up while we were in possession for an injury, then gave the drop-ball to Leicester. They went ahead and scored while we were waiting for them to give it back.

I was going to say the same  as my 60th season has ended very badly

But on reflection up to the West Ham cup game it was pretty reasonable but the lack of decent strikers has proved to be a disaster

So, so bad on so many levels.  A clueless manager, spineless players, terrible recruitment the last few years and a team that seems more keen on keeping the score down than winning games.

Shameful.

So many new players needed but who will take Redmond, Walcott, Elyounoussi, Armstrong, Bednarek, McCarthy?

First once, not as it stands. Need a good summer transfer wise.

A couple of really decent attacking players would make an incredible difference to the squad it is the lack of real quality and experience has caused our decline since February

The absolute joy of being s premier League team that just about does enough to stay up each season. Turgid fucking wank.

I get the people saying we are doing well to just stay in the league given our budget, and that's fine and all, but fuck me, what a shit existence it is. There are bigger clubs than us stuck in lower leagues that would snap our arms off to swap with us, I'd hastily warn them against it though. Being in this position, staying in the league with 9 wins all fucking year, is just utterly depressing.

For those not there - quite a long inquest afterwards with players round the ref, captains consulted etc. looked like it might end like that Leeds game a few years back when after a spot of blatent cheating Leeds let the opposition score - but no, not this time.

what on earth was going on - we clearly had the ball passing it around before play was stopped.

Is it true our fans were chanting Rooney throughout the game? That’s more embarrassing than the result FFS

Are you sure it was not Roody! 😃 Katie Rood!

I understand sack the manager talk but who the fuck is better we can get.

These players are dog shit, our budget is the same as south sudan's GDP and our best player should leave to further his career with my best wishes for once.

We are a mess.

Flip it around and ask another question - who would do much worse.

Another piss poor performance today, which I have no doubt Ralph and his cult of followers will make excuses for and pin on their first goal ruining our game plan.

The night of that West Ham cup match really was our high point of the season, it felt good to be a saints fan walking away from the stadium and things were looking up. From that point on though it’s been a slow motion car crash, and I’m so glad this season is over, just feel completely done with this club.

This.

We can moan all we like about his starting lineups and his substitutions, but whatever he does is just like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Every week he is forced to start games with 5 or 6 players who wouldn't get into any other PL team, because the alternatives are even worse.

I just don't see what difference sacking him would make. Not even Pep could make Ely, Redmond and Djenepo into better attackers, or Bednarek and Stephens into better defenders, or McCarthy into a competent keeper.

My good fucking god I cannot believe how shit we've been since the Villa 0-4. Bouncing along quite nicely, remember shrugging that one off as a bad day at the office. Even just a couple more wins in the ensuing 12 or so games and it would have been ok. But no, just that streaky as fuck win against Arsenal and a couple of ropey draws. Totally unacceptable.
