Who on earth was derek Allan?

Coming home to my parents this weekend and I was going through all my old saints stuff.  Flicking through my autograph book,  I came across a signature from a derek Allan.

I can’t remember who he was.  Anyone remember him?

Branfoot obviously believed he'd hit a rich seam of talent in Scotland, who can forget his epic dips into the transfer market there and successes ?

Okay, so Derek Allen didn't work out, but don't forget Colin Cramb and Paul Sheerin.

Best of all I remember Ian Branfoot defending the transfer policy at a Radio Solent Fan Forum by pointing out he'd just signed  a young Scots lad from Reading, (Paul, or Gary Ferguson from recollection) for £20,000, and he was a prospect who we'd hear a lot about in the future. Think he disappeared without trace.

Ken Monkou aside IB's transfer record was pretty appalling.

I remember seeing him play in the Reserves and thought he had a big future. Alan Hansen style centre half. Injuries got him. Probably too cultured for Ian Branfoot, but Jimmy Case got a few games out of him at Brighton.
