It does feel that we've lost part of our national identity. The respect she was held in by so many around the world, was across generations. Her dignity and duty over long years made her the face of our country, through good times and bad.

Decent tribute from Boris

It was indeed. Nice words, and he said it all. Sad loss of a great lady who gave her life to serving our country, and did it with grace and humility.

Saddened by this. RIP.

In truth I'm not a huge fan of the Royal Family.

Queenie though, as a person and figurehead was fabulous. Hard to think of our great country without her.

Thank you ma'am.

Someone send Nicholas Witchell home.

Huw Edwards is such class. Clearly had tears in his eyes at one point

When the news came out at lunch it felt a bit ominous.

It is very sad, a lot of us have known nothing else than The Queen. It's just part of life, tradition and she's always been 'there'. There are obviously clear protocols which are now followed but it will still feel odd in the weeks ahead. She has been a great example of our country, makes you proud to live here.

A very historical moment to live through.

In fairness to him he produced a superb tribute to her on the news last night.

I wouldn't fancy his job to be honest.

I thought he and the BBC did their jobs well. The BBC have always handled these types of occasions with consummate professionalism and it can’t be easy, but they strike the right tone, especially the anchors. Huw Edwards looked on the verge of tears on occasion but held it together. News stories don’t come much bigger than the death of a reigning monarch in this country and I thought that Witchell chose his words well with the right level of reverence and respect. To sum up the life and achievements of someone who has been in the public eye worldwide for so long and who has affected so many also who don’t believe in the institution that she represented whist it is still in effect breaking news without sounding crass and sycophantic is no mean feat. Obviously all of the news channels had prepared for this eventuality, but you still have to deliver and the BBC did yesterday.

The problem they face as happened with Phillip, the Queen Mother and Diana is how much is too much? Where do you draw the line? We have 10 days more of this and then the focus will switch to Charles, the coronation and the road ahead with a new monarch. A new King. A new PM. Potentially a winter of discontent like no other. We are heading towards some very choppy waters and if you thought the news channels have been hard going for a while probably best that you don’t cancel your Netflix sub just yet.

There's some decidedly dodgy bad taste stuff, particularly on Twitter. Kevin Bridges hasn't covered himself in glory either. As for Shamrock Rovers fans?

It’s pure narcissism, just like with the Ukrainian refugees. Some people just need BAME to be the victims in absolutely any given scenario and will always try to twist the conversation in that direction. Having said that, they’re not alone. One of Jedward popped up on my Twitter claiming what he was saying was okay because he’s Irish and that people needed to educate themselves on history. I was surprised the cretin can even spell history.

If you don’t like the royal family it’s probably best just to STFU rather than try to make bad taste point scoring. Usually the people who are the biggest bellends can’t help themselves.

Indeed, It strikes me that there is a time to wind your neck in, and this is one of those.

Most of that shit isn't specifically anti-royal though, it's revisionist self centered anti-imperialism, generally by people wanting everybody to see how 'clever' and provocative they are.

I do not need every company on who's mailing lists I have ended up spamming me with their message of condolence and sympathy to the Royal Family.

It is starting to read like Evita:

"Mourning all day and mourning all night
Falling over ourselves to get all of the misery right"

Looking at pictures from the Accession Council there look to be a few interesting conversations going on; David Cameron and Teresa May, Tony Blair and Keir Starmer, those are fair enough, but Gordon Brown and Boris Johnson ?

Blair seeming to make sure he had his back to Gordon leaving him stuck chatting to the shagger in chief. They seemed to be having a proper natter though.

Pompey Penny has landed right on her feet here though.

Good job King Charles is only the third. CR7 might have had some trademark issues.

Funeral on Monday 19th which will be a bank holiday.

Hope the same fuckers bemoaning the call off of the football will be moaning that they want to carrying on working as this means nothing to them?

Anyone see Charles signing documents this morning?  Pretty sure he nicked the pen after signing, then knocked a pot of ink on the floor.  Whoever set that table up deserves the Tower.

Christmas presents to make. Bank holiday makes no difference when your workshop is at the back of your house.

It was his own pen but yes knocked something off the table (which needed to be bigger).

No - the crowd at the cricket recognised the poignancy of her passing, I am not saying those that wanted the football to continue, of which I was one of them, more the disrespectful idiots who were of the so what, she’s an old lady I dint know etc.

Top 3 Charlatans songs:

1 - Tellin’ stories

2 - Just when you’re thinking things over

3 - One to another
