managers directing traffic on the sideline is all a load of bollocks IMO. It just gives the TV directors something else to show during the increasing number of stoppages - and in turn has risen the profile of managers (or are they just head coaches these days?) allowing them to demand eye watering salaries.  If Clough could allow his side to play (and win) a game whilst sat in the changing rooms, then I wonder what actual effect Tony Pulis shouting and demanding more from players all game actually has?

Players win games. Tactics no doubt have a bearing, but managers waving arms on the sideline has no impact.

A very good treatise. Years back one never knew who  were the managers. Bob lord at Burnley in the sixties was the exception

Given Long won’t be here next season yet Armstrong probably will it would have made more sense.

Increasingly looks like Long will get another deal to me. Ralph praises him a lot, uses him to see out games and is now even starting him.

Happy with the changes Ralph's made today. We needed to freshen things up. Glad Salisu is back. Long deserves a start in my opinion, has looked good in recent cameo appearances and he always give 110%. Hopefully Arma will get good game time in second half. Weve got pace down both wings with Redders and Tella. We can rest both Stuart and Moi and bring them on later if we need to do so - COYR :)

Feel sorry for Adam Armstrong.  Completely mis-managed by Ralph.

He played him until his form was so bad that he had to drop him. He then tried to bring him back into the side, but his confidence looked shot and he simply did not deliver.  Perhaps he could have been given two or three games in this run in, but not sure he has been totally mis-managed.

For context, I think Armstrong has something about him and I have said on here repeatedly that he could still come good.

The manager is supposed to get the best out of a player, right?

4th choice striker for us now. Really disappointing signing given he was signed to replace Ings and can’t get a look in.

Tella gets his chance.  Hopefully he can take it. I think everyone expected him to make more of a impact this season. His pace and skills can excite. Time to shine lad. COYR.

has he ever had a good game?

Hopefully, he turns it on today. 1-1 for me

Perhaps he has got the best out of Armstrong and his best is not very good

Perhaps it hasn’t been helped by the way he has used him, and had Long ahead of him. Perhaps Ralph is actually not a very good manager. We’ll see, but fully expect Brighton to suddenly be able to score at home. Thing about being a stepping stone club is no one really cares about the stone towards the end of the season when they can negotiate with other clubs and avoid getting injured. Wouldn’t want to ruin that big money move, would they. ?

Sad state of affairs when a game like this would have been hotly anticipated. I nearly forgot the game was on.

Two toothless teams going at it, should be a goal-fest

The BBC were really pushing that narrative that Maupay hasn't scored in 13 home games, I wonder he'll get a better chance than today....

Managers are not magicians. It's up to the player to perform. He was given his chance. The manager backed him and stuck with him after quite a few average displays, but he got worse not better. He had to drop him.

I think you are right, a few flashes of brilliance that grab the eye, but a complete performance...not yet.

How bad must Adam Armstrong be in training?

Not gonna blame Ralph entirely here, but really the scouting department have a bit to answer for too if he is unable to meet the rigours of the Premier League.

£15m is a lot for us to have him just sat on the bench.

Other than that, am happy with the team I think but would have preferred Perraud over Tino

Well untill he actually has a run of games we will never know

was the run of games at the start of the season not a run of games? He started 11 of 12 of those games, playing the full 90 in almost all of them.

Perhaps he deserves another run.

Likewise. Very difficult to know who to pick as we have been so poor. Hopefully this side has the right balance.

We have the man who played left back for the England under 20 team who won the World Cup playing left back for Saints today.

he has played bloody well for us at least back too. You could argue that he's now an England full side right back. They key for me is can Livramento raise his game a bit to justify his selection. I've not been impressed with his defending all season and he's not done much in attack since returning from injury. Perraud is not a world beater mind, its just that he was playing during that wonderful spell.

Big game for Tella. He needs to make his mark for me sooner or later. Bit like Smallbone, not sure he can make the step up either.

Good point. I've not seen Smallbone do anything to justify his selection, but others suggest he is a talent, so maybe they both need more time. Not sure how much longer we can wait. We need one of those two to step up.
