‘Sussex Live’ agrees.

According to the league's rules, if a player has ten yellow cards by match 32, and the Seagulls have played 32 games so far this term, that equates to a two-match ban. Therefore, Bissouma is suspended for the Man City game on Wednesday and the Southampton match on Sunday - but he will be available for Wolves on April 30”

Cheers - I have been re-educated. I was possibly getting confused with the Red card one game suspension ruling, where if you get two one match reds in a season, they tack on another match ban in the hope that you wise up. Pretty certain big Victor got pinged on that with us.

Any spare tickets for tomorrow? The club won’t sell me one as they’ve been taken off sale and I can’t pay on the day in Burnley.

Posted (edited)

I remember their new owners saying some fairly detrimental things about Southampton FC when they took over, so frankly i hope we go their and slaughter them. Those same owners have shown themselves to be absolute imbeciles in recent weeks their are lots of reports saying the club is now swimming in debt after the leveraged takeover, and they've set about sacking the majority of the backroom staff that have built the club over the years. The dyche sacking has also driven a wedge between them and the fans. Glad we didn't get them as owners, and i personally think they're going to fully implode over the next couple of seasons unless they make a very good appointment.

If they are outside the Premier league if and when they do implode, no one aside from their fans will give a tinkers cuss. The FA will likely be pleased if Burnley do go down then go majorly wrong, because it won't be in full Worldwide view nor will it stain "the product".

If I read it right - the new owners bought Burnley under the same process the Glazers bought Man Utd, taking them from massive wealth to massive debt to finance the purchase the moment the ink dried on the contract. The Glazers obviously had some wherewithal within themselves to carry it out and weather the initial storm. Seems like the Burnley lot turned up without a pot to piddle in. Thinking they could pull it off like the Glazers, must have involved late night cocktails of alcohol and narcotics, one is a global brand the other is a small Lancashire town football club.

Amazed Burnley won't have a new manager in place for this match.

Genuinely (now stupidly) believed that their board would have a plan, with 8 games left, to get Dyche out but have the new guy pretty much ready to go. Otherwise why bother sacking him. Now seven games kept but obviously no manager in the dug out tomorrow, so six games left.

The Burnley forums must be in bloody meltdown.

Wow  now Sandcastle Arabia are above us.....................we need to win ,and yes if Burnley are to be relegated i dont think their  new owners will stay around too long to help them out financially to try and gain automatic promotion. I think they bought the club and immediately plunged them into something like £200m in debt.

Apparently, if Burnley are relegated, there is a means for the previous owners to buy the club back.

sounds odd!!!

as to the match, surely a must win game for them

It would be amazing to get a convincing 4/5-0 win away from home against a relegation threatened club.

But this is Southampton, and the expectation is it’ll be a scrappy 1-0 win for Burnley.

Will be interesting to see if we revert to a back four or stick with the back five.

Small northern mill towns with a population half the size of Eastleigh's, whose football team has massively overachieved by winning the league twice? By rights, you'd expect a team in a town that small to be in League Two, at best.  Having been to watch Saints play at Burnley, I can't say I was feeling the similarities but as you say, the folk there are friendly enough.

View of Burnley (looking remarkably like Southampton) from the Singing Ringing Tree:

Exactly the sort of game we don't turn up for. They will view it as a must win and be right on it. I do hope Ralph has his motivation hat on. Home win I fear

If it does happen I can cope with that if it contributes to Evertons relegation

Don't mind losing if it sends Everton down.

Everton might escape, Frankie boy won't.

Slightly annoying that whilst the game kicks off at 7:45pm, coverage only starts at 7:30pm.

No doubt those 15 minutes will consist 5 minutes of adverts, 5 minutes of talking about Burnley and then 5 minutes as the players walk out on to the pitch.

I'd have liked some feature interviews or similar, of course this game isn't the biggest pull but 15 minutes seems like little.

I imagine those 15 mins will be used to discuss Man City's win last night, and how tight the title race is. Half time will also be used to discuss that whilst touching on Spurs chances of finishing Top 4.

Yup - Sky know they are up against the chance of winning £250 in the lucky key box at the local Pub Quiz tonight .....................I have to admit to being slightly torn myself😉

Hopefully a change of formation and a more attacking mentality than the Arsenal game.

With 2 games in swift succession you'd think we'll be looking to utilise the squad a bit more.

Would like to see Tella getting a start now he's fit again.

Everton keep on pulling injury time points out of the bag at home, still useless away. Burnley by contrast have only won 4 games all season in the league. They have to win tonight or I can’t see any prospect of overhauling Everton. They do look better than Everton on the road so could drop one home game later on but tonight is about keeping Lampard and co under pressure. In the mid-late 90s, these are the sort of games at home Saints always won to stay afloat at this time of year - mid-table opposition, a couple of early lively tackles, first half goal and Dell crowd revved up.

Cornet has looked a decent buy but very costly missed pen at West Ham and Prutton-esque miss at Norwich.

I agree with CB Fry though that in sacking Dyche I was expecting someone else in the next day after his sacking at this tail end of the campaign. There was a bit of reaction at West Ham from the Norwich defeat which doomed Dyche but amazed Saints aren’t facing a new appointment tonight!

Maybe that's the plan all along when someone discovered that 4 columns on the spreadsheet had been hidden at the time of sealing the deal. Then someone last week said "err lads take a look at this - the sums don't add up!!" ................................. "err um - sack Sean as he is the one person likely to stop us getting out of this mess".

Is it correct that we have sold all the away allocation for the game?

Not a clue - someone the other day said they had trouble sourcing a ticket as it went off sale.  I would guess they had some returns that added up to just short of the minimum of 500 still going and got outta Dodge.

The word on the street is that Dyche had a bust up with the owner, hence he was sacked !

Given that he seems to be a hard, prickly sort of character, it wouldn’t surprise me and is more than likely the reason why no one else has been lined up to replace him !

Can see no further than a 1-1 tonight, which does little for both of us. In fact, I'd go as far to say anything less than three points and they have gone.

Everton seem to have a jammy ability to get a point here and there, whereas Burnley seem to have the opposite knack.

I've never liked Burnley, but have always respected their time in the epl. They knew what they needed to do, and they did it well.

I feel like the new ownership, & losing SD, well its is just bringing down the curtain on their top flight adventure.

Rather than allow them to cling on painfully, I'd prefer us to administer a lethal dose, but again, can see nothing but a disappointing draw.

Go on Saints........................Surprise me.....................................in a good way

Sounds plausible given, like you say, nobody was lined up to replace him.

Not unless there was a huge last minute rush. When I bought Brentford tickets I had a look to see how many Burnley were left out of curiosity and there were plenty available.

It would be a long trip to Turf Moor and back to just watch two teams who are both likely to play defensively and use the much maligned route one tactics. Not to mention the cost of petrol these days. Weather looks good though.

They do a score predictor game on one of their forums - seems they are almost entirely united in thinking they're going to win this one. Pretty optimistic for a side without a manager who's only won 4 all season (or maybe they just all watched our game against Chelsea):

When we were in Burnley’s position the home games you always looked at were mid table teams with nothing to play for. They’ve got two in a row now while Everton have got Liverpool next up.

Whst a chance to overtake them or get 4 out of 6 points to draw level.

I hope we batter them. They are shocking.

would love to see Everton go down, but never at the expense of Saints taking full points to get that 9th spot.

Wolves are only 3 points from a European spot. Surely that is something to play for isn't it?

Saints are only 2 points away from 9th. Although it doesn't get a trophy or European place, there is a big difference for our squad to finish 9th rather than 16th. Huge amount of prize money for the club and player financial bonuses difference finishing 9th to 16th.

Feels a bit defensive for Burnley. Will see though. I know he's been poor for a while but good opportunity for Broja with their slow defenders and all the players around him geared towards playing him in and setting him up.

I'm not sure that's the right call but I'll trust the manager. Would have liked to have seen the 4-2-2-2 return with Salisu and Lyanco at the back.

Your points are true but don’t know if you saw Bruno Fernandes comments the other day when he came out and said that “we have nothing to play for”.

Pretty damning for a Utd side you would think were chasing top 4 :D

So really who knows, let’s hope our players are not on the beach.

Posted

This might be a case of motivation over tactics. Our players clearly didn't give a fuck for weeks and when a couple of fringe players come in we seem a bunch more motivated and get a win. What sort of message would it send to then bench them?

I don't think it's our strongest line up but there is definitely logic behind it.
