We look like the team in the relegation battle...

I disagree. We look like a team that is safe and already on the proverbial beach. Burnley, however, do look like a team fighting for their lives

That doesn't explain the manager's deliberate hamstringing of the team and slowness to react.

No, but perhaps KWP was spent and the only logical like for like change was Tino.

Why would you want a like for like change when 2 nil down.

KWP was playing like more of a right wing before he was subbed.

Strikers like Che Adams are the reason why TWAR bangs on about second strikers actually being a position these days. Diabolical infront of goal.

A second striker is basically someone who plays up front but doesn’t score much isnt it.

I'm glad that we got the extra 3 points from the Arsenal game, can see both Everton and Burnley getting another 9 points each before the end of the season.

Let’s not get too dramatic about a game that literally means nothing.

We’ve stayed up again with absolutely zero issue, with no investment and some good days against the big teams. With our structure, we can’t ask for much more.

There’s incredibly obvious areas for us to improve this Summer, hopefully the new owners allow it to happen.

A comment on the BBC;

"Football historians will come, in time, to study the "Southampton effect" winning odd games against teams, never going on a run, and yet always being comfortably mid table with no one quite sure how they got there.."

The saving grace could be that sitting through this shite will all seem worthwhile if the dugout pioneers get relegated...

That’s the only comfort I’m getting from this shit show.

Well I kinda expected us to lose tonight but I didn't think the performance would be this bad.

Everything has gone to shit since Salisu got injured and Broja stopped trying.

It's easy to blame Ralph but anyone who has to select a CB combination from Bednarek, Stephens, Lyanco and Valery immediately has their hands tied.

In CM, Romeu looks a shadow of the player he was during our decent run, and Stu & Ely just don't create enough.

Let's face it - we have a severely limited squad cobbled together on a shoestring budget, and any manager would struggle to get them playing consistently well.

Lyanco just doesn't look convincing to me, remember him getting bullied by Oli McBurnie on his debut away to Sheff Utd, these sort of fixtures not ideal for him , I'd rather play Stephens

Not quite true though is it. We did go on a very good run which saw us have a slim opportunity of challenging for Europe.

However it all came undone with that horrendous week of losses to Villa, Newcastle and Watford.

Pretty much. A quick look at Che Adams XG over his Saints career and its higher than his actual goals scored....

It's someone who makes chances more than putting them away. Unfortunately Che is doing both jobs as our other forward has about 1 shot a game and spends the whole of it completely anonymous.

Could have been 2-0 up in the first five minutes, then their right back scores a worldy with his weak foot for his first goal and the whole game flips on that.

How many chances did he create today? He missed 2 absolute sitters

There does need to be some perspective. We haven’t had a pot to piss in. Our back three cost £12m and our midfield cost £5m. We should be in the bottom 3 in reality. Disappointing performance but perspective required. Hopefully next year with some investment….

I miss the days of a Build Up thread, a Match thread, and then a Reaction thread.

Burnley fans must be buzzing, reminds me of the feelings of Saints' great escapes.

Forster to be in the top 3 players of the season this year?

Better to miss two sitters than to not have any chances, the fact he gets in these position is why he is our top scorer. Did you even notice Broja on the pitch? Che is our only threat whatsoever.

Terrible, Terrible, Terrible. Awful.

Equally as bad as West Brom last year, if not worse. We looked out of our depth, against Burnley.

Burnley have scored the least goals and created less chances than anyone else in the league, yet they could have had 4 or 5 against us. It's horrific and that sort of performance needs a complete root and branch reset because that isn't just 'a bad day', that was fundamentally flawed all the way through it.

We know we've got shortcomings and players of very low quality in certain areas, but tactically that was a true horror show. Something for Halloween viewing.

I've lost count of the number of seasons we've more or less secured safety then gone off the boil. Very frustrating from a supporter's point of view. Agree that the manager has to take a lion's share of the blame for tolerating players that are obviously not putting in 100%.

Only consolation is that Everton fans will be equally pissed off with that Saints performance.

Meh.

Half this team is crap. Need a new CB, new attacking mids, new striker who isn't Broja.

Still better than Villa, or not now?

Ralph got the formation and team selection all wrong tonight. Frustratingly, he should have changed formation at 1-0. Why didn’t he bring on the subs earlier? Very poor from Ralph tonight.
Everton looks in real trouble. Hahahaha

That was as shit as it gets. Disorganised. Unmotivated. No quality whatsoever.

I guess we'll find out about our new owners' mettle in the coming weeks - surely they can't continue to tolerate the abysmal standard of performances over the past couple of months.

None of them good enough to wear the shirt tonight.

Wasn’t great today, indefensible, as I said.

The whole team were shite, as they have been for weeks.

That’s on the manager, not individual players sonshine.
