See that’d what I’m struggling with. What team would suggest he’s not? What’s the tipping point? Nothing against you SB just wondering.

I could deal with Caballero in for Forster, Stephens in for Bednarek, any 2/3 of the full-backs and probably Adam Armstrong in for Broja.

Not taking it seriously for me would be any of Valery, Diallo, Djenepo, Smallbone, Walcott or Long. Valery unlucky to be amongst those other names but it is what it is, I want to go to Wembley.

Have it on reasonably good authority that it’s Long and Armstrong up front. Guess we’ll see..

Yep. FF in goal, Stephens but long and AA up top.

Probably what I would have picked minus Long and plus Adams. Lots of subs though so Adams and/or Broja will be on pretty early I imagine.

Happy with the line up. Long and AA will chase and disturb their defenders stepping out so can understand bringing them in. The rest would be our first XI.

Set pieces are going to be our best chance of a goal but if we need it, Broja and Adams off the bench are great options to have.

Good plan to bring Adams and Broja on off the bench as fresh legs in my opinion. Long and Armstrong decent players on the break which is what we'll be doing today.

Broja could do with sitting one out, not sure on dropping Adams though. Let’s see how Long and Armstrong work together, they’re going to be feeding off scraps for much of the game.

Yep but so would the other 2. I’d rather bring them in later tbh and I think long and AA are better at defending then Broja.

Interesting line up. I can see the thinking that Long and Armstrong will just work and work for an hour and if we're still in it then we bring on Broja.

Delighted that Callebero is not playing, as that would have been an absolute joke.

What he's done is made tactical calls, which is fine. Rather than just select shit players because it is a cup game.

Not sure it will work - I would have thought use Broja early to get an early goal might have been a better plan - but let's see.

1 cup in 136 years and we don’t go full strength in a quarter final against the best team in the world 😂

Probably not, but I think I can see why he's done it. It might work, it might not. We'll find out in a few hours. #pragmatism

Jesus, I actually agree with CB Fry!

Messrs Forster, Bednarek and Salisu need to cut out the p!ssing about at the back in this game as City will punish any errors in a far greater fashion than Watford did. If in doubt, launch it.

Correction, just noticed Bednarek is not starting 🙂

Yes.

FF

TL JS MS KWP

OR JWP

SA ME

SL AA

Given the subs rules in the Cup, not too unhappy with that actually. A fresh Broja and Adams in the second half could do some damage if we're in the game at that point and Long can be useful in these type of games against the best sides when feeding on scraps and getting up the noses of the City defenders. COYS!

I think the way Ralph sees it is that we have. This is for the tactics he wants in the first half and then he'll bring on Adams and Broja for his tactics for later in the game. It might work, it might not.

The same can be said for going with our strongest "on paper" XI, it might work but what if we're 2-0 after 15, we can change it up but only get weaker.

I dont think this is our strongest line up, but I think Ralph has put it out as what he thinks for the best chance of staying in / winning the game. As said above, we’re going to be feeding off scraps and he maybe thinks the best way to work with that is to have his front two just working their socks off, with the option to bring on the starting strike force when their defence is a bit more tired. At least I hope that’s the thinking….

I don't envisage Bednarek doing any pissing about in this game...

With the exception of Long, that’s not a bad line up. I’m more in hope that AA can show us something.

I hope i'm wrong but i think Elyounessi is a bigger problem. Don't think he's terribly suited a game where we are likely to be relying on scraps and breaking quickly.

Yep. After Long scores in 7 seconds he’s replaced by Adams. Then Broja comes on at half time

We will either put in hell of a shift to do the fans proud and surprise us or not turn up at all! there doesn't seem to be any in-between with saints under RH! 🤣

So, after completely been overlooked against bang average opponents in Watford, AA gets a start against arguably the best team in world football. Words honestly fail me.

I bet you were whinging about the team selection v West Ham as well.

I think that’s exactly it. It may not work but with FF in goal, a decent back line and midfield, it’s not a bad idea. Try to keep it level by half time, then bring on the “big” guns in the second half. Also the starting front 2 are pacy so may cause problems on the break.

Prepared to eat my words later, but......

Today is the day Adam Armstrong becomes a Saints Hero!

Really hope so! Not a good team to be playing when you are short on confidence though! That said if you can't raise your game for am fa cup against city when can you?
