This game has the feel of a derby what with Howe being at the Toon helm, current form is evens so I'm expecting a draw ... but Brojah might nick it for us.

Nothing special about Newcastle other than they are very athletic. Expect a lot of direct passing and bruising tackles/headers. We'll need Salisu, Romeu, Adams, and Broja to stand up to them and cause them problems.

Apart from anything else, I want to put one over on these bastards for the sneaky way that they got games cancelled until the transfer window opened....

Not sure you need to be so butt hurt over it.

Game was rescheduled due to C19. Anyway, hopefully Dan Burn, Target or Bruno score the winner ;)

Leave us alone, butt hurt is what we do best!

Interesting you didn't list Chris Wood as a potential scorer 😆.

Oh yes....C19. Nothing to do with injuries, players at the ANC, or apparently having a squad so small that they (you?) couldn't put out a team when others were? NOTHING to do with getting games postponed until after the window....I see.

Salisu there - albeit seemingly training apart from the rest of the group with Elyounoussi. At least even if he doesn't make this game it looks like his injury isn't too serious.

Tella back too. Improves the bench, I guess.

Not sure they were training apart.  Moi was definitely training with the others at the end.

First time I've seen one of these for quite a while.  How long have they been wearing the figure hugging pyjama suits to train?  Not the best look I've seen.

Exactly. Pleased you understand now

i’d be tempted to give a.armstrong a start, given the villa result and the turnaround to the Watford game. Unleash a Geordie on the toon.

also maybe Redmond for elyounessi.

Really hoping Salisu is fit enough to start.

We need Salisu back, then we need to work out where to get the yellow card that takes him to ten.

I imagine that will be the first 20 minutes of whenever he plays. Boy sure does like a card.

Ideally you'd want him to miss the Watford game as that's likely the easiest fixture we still have.

Put him on the bench Thursday even if half fit, bring on for the last couple of minutes, commit a silly foul, kick the ball away. He then gets another decent period to get proper fit for the rest of the season.

Two match ban for 10 yellows. Ideally he makes it through until Leeds and then picks up the booking, IMO.

Oh crap, didn't realise that. Don't want him to miss the cup game.

No Salisu, No Party.

When is the next cut off? Is it 10 bookings anytime before end of season or does it go up to 15?

I remember when watching the Swansea cup match they were saying yellow card suspensions are competition specific and red card suspensions covered all competitions, bit confusing but might work in our favour.

Two match ban if 10 yellows are reached before the end of Game 32.  This is currently Chelsea at home; but could change if our trip to Burnley falls after this.  I believe 15 yellows equals a three match ban at any point.

I think it's quite simple: if Salisu plays, we have a chance of a win. If he doesn't, a point is decent. They're a much better (aka completely different) team than they were before the FA rolled over and let their new riches tickle their tummy. They have goals in them, and a better defence. I'd be happy with 1-1.

Nicely put Ralph. We need to win this game to right their wrongs. And reap their salty tears. Nothing more.

Yes, I reckon Ralph will be using the postponement heavily in getting his players bang up for this one.

The points are laughable

Did crap at Bournemouth because he cant spend money. Now only doing well at Newcastle because he spent money

Newcastle had made some crap signings, thought they were getting Mbappe etc. Now Newcastle have signed some top players

Current player praises the positive impact Howe has had. Dismissed as well they would say that wouldn't they.

It's wierd.

I have always felt with Howe that he is alright provided he can keep spending money. At Bournemouth he spent big (relative to their level) and got an immediate bounce from new signings, and that carried them along quite well. But i don't think he was anything special at developing players, and i don't think his teams are particularly great at defence or controlling games.

Newcastle is a great job for him. He plays attacking football (which they have been crying out for), has come into a club which can have vociferous support where the fans are right behind the team, and he's got to play fantasy football. But i don't think he's a great manager who is going to be with Newcastle long term - also they are a shocking fanbase and probably the most toxic one in England when it starts to go wrong or not meet their expectations. That day will eventually arrive for Howe and i can't seem him managing it successfully.

But bottom line, Howe was never the right manager for saints because fundamentally we have no money ^_^.

Assuming any players you had out injured for the first game won’t be playing in this one… just to keep it fair 🤣

Never mind about that. More importantly, does Rupali Curry House still exist in the Bigg Market?

I lived in Newcastle for 3 years in the late 90s and we'd get some great curry there!

He/she won’t know - closest they have been to Newcastle is West End

That's a shame. I lived so close to St James that I could hear the roar a minute or so before teletext flashed up a goal. Sometimes you could even hear the crowd reacting to a contentious decision and I'd have a chuckle to myself thinking of 50,000 red-faced, overweight, barcode-wearing Geordies all getting their knickers in a twist.

I went to quite a few Saints games at St James including a 4-0 defeat for Saints in which Jason Dodd got sent off and when Shearer scored the penalty, his second goal of the game he came and rubbed it in celebrating like crazy and waving to us up at the back of the stand. I still don't like him very much even though he does say some nice things about us. Was totally classless of him to do that.

Yeah, Shearer's return to Toon should have been a nice story. But he always came across as a bit of a twat.

Even when Fergie approached him, he didn't handle the situation well.

Its great to be determined & single minded, but always spare a thought for the path you travel. One day, you might have to retrace your steps.

I hate the non celebration bs and then the ensuing ‘class’ comments. We can all cope with a full on Adebayor

Is this our first Thursday night home game since Ben Shiva  in the Europa League ?

Such a weirf night to be playing football.

Fair enough. I don't usually mind it but on that day, it was a harsh red to begin with and he put them 2-0 up and made a point of going to the away fans.

Nah, we played Wolves away last season in the FA Cup on a Thursday night.

We also played Chelsea away on Boxing day on a Thursday (won 2-0) back in 2019.

But to answer your specific question, the last Thursday night home game was a 2-1 loss to WHU at home on 27/12/2018 - Felipe Anderson scored twice.

Think we played on a Thursday a couple of times during the lockdown games - Brighton home game definitely was.

Heard Broja has been training on his own this week too, along with Sali and Elyounoussi. Be interesting to see if any of them start tonight. Think Salisu will start if possible but wouldn’t be surprised if Broja and Elyounoussi aren’t in the first XI

When you consider that and and factor in the strengths of their forwards v the weaknesses of our defenders it's hard to be optimistic for this one. Amazing what one bad result can do for confidence. Tempting to play Stephens, Bednarek and Valery as a back 3, need Romeu back on form.

Our team is mentally fragile, we've known that for years. The Villa result wasn't just bad, it was a thrashing and could easily have been worse.

Today has the potential to be a very bad result too. Hopefully we can show we've learned from the past.

Trippier, Hayden, Wilson, and possibly St-Maximin. ( Fingers crossed ).
