Fabrice Fernandes no.1 fan Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 In light of the recent resurrection of a thread claiming Ralph should F Off, I was considering my own history of bad opinions relating to Saints. I think it would give us all a sense of clarity to get these off our chests and move past them. My personal regret is my unmoving opinion in the late 2000's that Simon Gillett was the perfect partner for Schneiderlin and would help us roar through the leagues. Didn't quite pan out like that... 2
The Left Back Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 Such a brilliant idea for a thread. Of the current squad I admit to having written Fraser Forster off for a second time before his latest renaissance. From the dim and distant past I remember my cocky 17 year old self ranting at the pointlessness of re-signing Mick Channon. Somewhere in between I got massively over-excited at the prospect of those Dutch coaches we had in the late noughties (Poortvliet and Wotte) 1
SuperSAINT Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 I thought Clasie would be good. (Despite the obvious lack of physical attributes) 1
TWar Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 Broja would be fine - he's great Armstrong would be great - he's probably fine but certainly has had a rough start Ings was a poor signing - he was not Lemina would have a better post saints career than Hojbjerg Forster being nailed down on a long term deal was great business as his good form in 2016 would last forever Those are the ones that immediately spring to mind. I'm sure there are more.
Appy Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 I thought Hoedt was the business when we signed him. 1

SuperSAINT Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 I thought playing Tadic & Boufal together would be amazing…

sydney_saint Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 I thought we would be absolutely fine when saggy chops was appointed.. 😕 I deserved a straight red for that one 2
S-Clarke Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 At the time of being linked with Elyonoussi, I described him as a quick/pacy player who will add speed to our attack. I obviously watched the wrong player at Basel. To be fair he's somewhat redeemed himself this year, but he's probably the slowest number 10 we have!

danjosaint Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 After seeing Chambers keeping out Clyne and was so good against Chelsea when Ashley Cole was there , i was convinced he would become England captain

Toadhall Saint Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 Thinking Danny Ings would stay cos he’s a local lad 🤬 1

bpsaint Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 This Carrillo fella must be pretty good if we’re paying that much for him. I suppose I should have learnt my lesson from Boufal. Or Lemina, or Osvaldo, or Ramirez….
kyle04 Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 ...Mark Hughes did a god job keeping us up - give him a chance 1

Saint Troy Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 Im still pretty confident Leandre Griffit is gonna tear the league up 1 3
Colinjb Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 With a future spine of One Size, Folly and Blackstock we will be a regular UEFA Cup qualifier. 2
The Cat Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 I was livid when we appointed Strachan as manager. Couldn't stand him before that but have to admit I warmed to him slightly when he got us to the FA Cup final. 1
The Cat Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 Another one was going to that Norwich (?) home game under Portvliet when we played some outrageous attacking football. I was so taken by it I thought we'd have a great season.
coalman Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 Puel will play exciting attacking football. He'll do better than Koeman. 1
Paulwantsapint81 Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 Alan Ball would stay as manager & MLT would continue to score 20+ goals every season 1

Holmes_and_Watson Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 I didn't think much of getting a manager who got his team relegated, and then who immediately brought in 2 of his relegation team. Sorry Mr Strachan, Mr Telfer and Mr Williams.
Saints foreva Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 I thought our lineup this evening would fail horribly.... 1
Ashby Saint Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 I am not sure why we ever played Chris Marsden and yet we always lost when he didn’t play.

wadesmith Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 I called Pochettino ‘Pokeynose’ when we fired Adkins...& fully supported the ‘Wave A white Hanley’ campaign.
ErwinK1961 Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 Yoann Folly would be our Makele after his performance against Bayern in the Ted Bates Trophy. 3
Ex Lion Tamer Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 I was desperate for Marco Silva to take over from Pellegrino

Saint86 Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 I thought we should keep Bertrand rather than let him go. I fully acknowledged we would improve with a fitter set of full backs but I didn't realise how much - and we haven't missed Bertrand for even one second this season! 1
Kingsland Codger Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 I was in the Far East for the always-to-be-reminded defeat to Leicester. I awoke early in the morning, looked at the score on the app and saw 0-8 after 89 minutes. Ah well, I said to myself, at least we didn’t conceded in stoppage time like we usually do. Oops!
Ex Lion Tamer Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 Steve de Ridder sure looked good on that YouTube video 1

I remember Derby away the same season, I think it was only a 1-0 win but we were superb that afternoon and I couldn't see what would go wrong...
Holmes_and_Watson Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 Stuart Ripley would add a bit of league winning class to the right of midfield.
WestMidSaint Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 Why are we signing Bertrand? It’s outrageous we sell Shaw and replace him with someone who did so little at Villa! Signing Kevin Phillips? Jesus we’ve really arrived! All the dross from 04/05: we’ll be alright now we’ve got these lot! Didn’t appreciate how good S.Armstrong would be. He exceeded expectations on a way Delgado failed to
S-Clarke Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 I did have underwhelming reactions to Bertrand I think. We'd sold Shaw for £30m and signed a replacement on loan etc etc. (who was relegated the previous season). He certainly was great for us for 2 years, but pretty shit for the remainder of his contract though. and I can remember having a mini meltdown with us missing out on Brandon Williams, that aged well.
Saints Fan Dan Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 We've spunked our record transfer fee (of £7m) on Jay Rodriguez, how underwhelming. JWP is shit and you can see the potential but he's so weak that a gust of wind could blow him over. We'll beat Arsenal in the 2003 FA Cup Final because they'll be pissed off about losing the league to Man United. That pinstripe Liverpool style home kit (2012-13 season) is beautiful and we're right to ditch the stripes. I think I'll spend £42 on it to celebrate us coming back up (the sponsor pealed off and the neck was too tight. I still like the shirt tbh but i threw it out ages ago).
Holmes_and_Watson Posted 2 March, 2022 Posted 2 March, 2022 Look, I know we sign vetetans, but Jimmy Case and Frank Worthington...
