Hi all, I posted an interview I did with Brett Ormerod earlier but I’ve also interviewed Jos Hooiveld. We spoke about the 2011/12 Championship promotion season. Hopefully it’ll be of interest!

Really loved Jos. I remember he was seen as a bit of a cheap option after we'd missed out on Amaar Jamal (remember him??) but he turned out to be a hero. Didn't quite cut it in the PL, but he was our best CB in the Championship imo. Jose just had that extra bit technique and physicality to make that extra step.

What I find funny is that a centre half only playing on Tuesday nights would have outscored half the strikers we’ve had in the last ten years. 6 for the season I believe it was.

Had a decent left foot from memory - and always seemed to score with headers at Upton Park.

Yeah, Hooiveld was better suited to the Championship, while Fonte suited and adapted to the Premier League better. Good player and was exactly what we needed at the time of his signing.

Yep. I think it was Richard Chaplow that called him square head and it ended up with cardboard boxes on saints fan heads all over twatter
