Fraser Spinney Posted 16 February, 2022 Share Posted 16 February, 2022 Hi all, I posted an interview I did with Brett Ormerod earlier but I’ve also interviewed Jos Hooiveld. We spoke about the 2011/12 Championship promotion season. Hopefully it’ll be of interest! https://post-and-in.com/2022/01/27/a-season-in-the-life-jos-hooiveld/

S-Clarke Posted 16 February, 2022 Share Posted 16 February, 2022 Great post, thanks for that. Really loved Jos. I remember he was seen as a bit of a cheap option after we'd missed out on Amaar Jamal (remember him??) but he turned out to be a hero. Didn't quite cut it in the PL, but he was our best CB in the Championship imo. Jose just had that extra bit technique and physicality to make that extra step.
Lighthouse Posted 16 February, 2022 Share Posted 16 February, 2022 What I find funny is that a centre half only playing on Tuesday nights would have outscored half the strikers we’ve had in the last ten years. 6 for the season I believe it was.

Had a decent left foot from memory - and always seemed to score with headers at Upton Park.

nta786 Posted 17 February, 2022 Share Posted 17 February, 2022 I remember people around me saying Fonte wouldn't be cut out for the PL but that he would. Great player in the promotion season

HarvSFC Posted 17 February, 2022 Share Posted 17 February, 2022 Yeah, Hooiveld was better suited to the Championship, while Fonte suited and adapted to the Premier League better. Good player and was exactly what we needed at the time of his signing.

VectisSaint Posted 18 February, 2022 Share Posted 18 February, 2022 No mention of his left sided playing partner Danny Fox. I wonder why.
