My Wesst Ham mate thinks he'll go there as 5th choice which seems a bit strange to be honest. Possibly they're wanting to play 3 at the back.  But they have Kehrer, Zouma, Aguerd, Ogbonna.  Cresswell also plays LCB. Will be interesting to see how often he actually plays.

Would make it a very strange move from his perspective, unless he's confident he can break through.

I still think the Gakpo could happen. We've had a few of these "all agreed" transfers fall apart at the last hurdle before and usually we'd get a tweet from Adam Blackmore or someone to say it's officially off. The fact that this hasn't happened makes me think there could still be a twist to come.

Yeah absolutely, we've done really well in CB.

Equally in midfield with Lavia and AMN added to the group. Just a little bit worried about the attack.

I hear you- but lets have a little faith. The ones we got so far have been brilliant. Mara might be amazing. Edozi might be amazing. They are both attackers. If only one of them is as good and as immediately impactful as Lavia or BK in there respective position we are in dreamland.  Oh and PS. Adam Armstrong is like having a new player up front. I do not recognise this version to the one so anonymous all last year..hes way better.

I really hope so. We dont go as far as agreeing a fee for Gapko and the player wanting to come unless there weren't any encouraging signs that we could get a deal done

Buy back clause in both City players' contracts - That's four now that we apparently have buy back clauses for, I wonder if there's a sub clause that they can't buy back more than two a year or something.

There is normally a window where the clauses are active, e.g. only available in the summer transfer window of 2024, or 2025

Who knows, but if they buy three back that will be north of 100m quid coming in.

I’d be delighted but extremely surprised to see the deal go through now. I’d be surprised if we ever do business with PSV again! 😏

Not too concerned about a striker to be honest, we've scored 7 goals in 5 games including against 3 of the Super League Six which isn't bad. Sorting the defence seems more important to me, and with Bazunu, ABK, Lavia and our new coach we've strengthened across the defensive half of the pitch.

Assuming JWP continues his usual set piece success rates, we'll be fine for goals. It's stopping them going in that's been the problem the last few seasons, and I think we've done a very good job addressing that.

Looks the same player to me. Busy, some nice dribbles...

It was a nice goal against Chelsea, decent first touch and finish, all be it with a deflection, but there were other things, like when he tried to curl one into the top corner but ended up scuffing/under hitting it right down the middle, that were similar to what he was doing last year. I don't see a `way better' player.

To be honest, I thought he was written off too early last year and there was always hope he might regain his confidence in the summer and do something this season. Maybe we need to judge him over a longer period (this season) though. He was flying when scoring against Everton and Villa and getting a pen at Newcastle too...but it didn't last. Still plenty to prove.

The spine of the team is looking a lot stronger, both in quality and actually strength. Big guys coming in. CC is 6'4.

the two new City fellas that we may sign today look the opposite, in terms of strength and size, one small and one thin, but hopefully they can really play.

Fundamentally for Ralph's playbook - we needed pace and power at the back (we have added that), and quicker movement in CM (we've added that). We can now push up and commit to pressuring teams more. So those improvements have all improved our attack.

Increasing creativity in midfield / attack (Aribo, AA on the left) etc. also helps us. Its taken a while, but the new formation is the way with these players.

Surely Caleta Car replaces Stephen’s, confirmed as off to Bournemouth. If Bednarek goes to West Ham that’s a bonus?

two out, two in. Simeu out on loan again and Valery off. Starting to get the right kind of number of CB as we had far too many.

Does anyone think Gakpo is that good? The stuff I’ve seen from him hasn’t really made me go wow, that’s all.

any more informed watchers of Dutch football know?

Player of the season for PSV, and Dutch Writers player of the season last year. And that was in the same league as £85m Antony.

He's clearly a very good player, will probably look at him as one that got away but I never got myself too invested in this transfer as it really did feel like media and agent games in the last 24hrs.

So if we sign Calleta-Carr does he settle for a place on the bench, or does Ralph break up the excellent pairing ABK and Salisu appear to be forming? Not sure I get this one.

Salisu still hasn't signed a contract right?  Maybe they think he'll be off in the next year and ABK and CC are the future.

I Do Love GIF by The Bachelor

See a bit about him here to be honest just from reading about dutch football and seeing the goals.

Player of the eredevisie last year and to be honest after the WC we will have no chance to get him as I expect him to excel.

So at this stage, assuming it all goes through we're nearly done on upgrading through the team:

Forster - Bazunu

Lewis - Lis

Bednarek - ABK

Stephens - Caleta-Carr

Valery - Larios

Romeu - Lavia

N/A - Maitland-Niles

Tella - Edozie

Walcott/Redmond - Aribo

Long - Mara

Broja - ?

Think if the deals expected today go through we've got 2 good players in each positions except CF, where I suppose Aribo could step in if Adams was injured. A CF as well as the expected arrivals/departures would make it our first 10/10 window in many a year!

sounds like it to me. Or is Sangerre going?

That Rik journo fella posted yesterday that PSV had categorically ruled out Sangerre leaving (which, of course, was before a similar declaration came out about Gakpo, so pinches of salt at the ready....)

And people said Ralph was doing a bad job with those players 🤣

I heard that WHU had moved in for Caletta Carr

Whisper it quietly, but 5-at-the-back 😳
