Sky reporting that we bid £21m for Gakpo and they're holding out for £25m - surely (if we really want to make it happen) we can stretch to that...

i think in this case Id rather listen to the Rik guy… infact he has already shut down Sky who I’m genuinely shocked are so consistently bad transfer wise considering their contacts

At 25m he’d already be gone

I think he moves for a fee around 40m.. however thats made up

Brownhill was excellent at Bristol City, and as a part-time Robins fan I was gutted when we went to Burnley, where he was predictably poorly-utilised. Underrated but good player, he'd improve our squad for sure.

I can see something like that. £25m guaranteed and 10-15m in add on's based on things like apps, international apps, PL finishes etc.

Whether we're prepared to go there...who knows. Probably somewhat unlikely, but I imagine SR are looking around at the PL and seeing Forest, Leeds, WHU, Villa and even everton spending £30m upwards on individual players this summer. I don't think the ''we won't spend £30-40m'' on a single is particularly sustainable when you see the rest of the league.

£25 million up front with say £10 million add ons possibly. West Ham’s Paqueta deal included like £13 million of add ons so it’s possible. I can see this deal happening, it has the kind of feel as to when Man City signed Robinho shortly after they got their Billions.

@SuperSAINT you’re going to be a busy bunny the next two days. I’ve just got COVID so I’ll be glued to SaintsWeb!

Ditto

Sky also have a betting company that they need to help so the more shit information, the better. Keeps up the fan drama as well

Oh yeah for sure, some of the stuff (probably more than we actually realise) they spout is nothing more than lies to drum up clicks and the such. Builds the drama, increases their viewership and gives them more money in advert revenue (their deadline day is actually sponsored by leading brands now).

i would imagine the deal will be (if we ever agree) circa £25m  up front cash with loads of other add ons that take it to £40m much like the Gibbs white deal. Cant think we would consider doing a deal at £40m cash up front.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we’ve had to up our budget due to the clubs around us spending freely

I said before that we’re seeing the financial freedom of the Prem, compared to Europe in action here.. and the prem clubs are taking advantage snd grabbing talent whilst we can

From our perspective our rivals in the lower prem are also strengthening considerably so maybe we are going for it to keep up

I wouldnt want to be under Gao ownership this year… I think we’d almost certainly be for the chop

Just shows you what a remarkable job Ralph has done over the last couple of seasons

'Brownhill is amazing' was the comment from my Burnley supporting mate. And I don't think he's trying to do a reverse-Bednarek on me 😄

It's true that although we feel like we're spending loads this summer, there are actually plenty of clubs spending similar and we're only mid table on net spend

I'll be sad about this one, I'll miss him. His legs have gone as we saw last season, but he's been great under Ralph. It's hard not to begrudge him a move back home on a decent secure contract, he's only got 1 year left here and obviously we're not looking to extend. We can't leave ourselves short though, so he'd need to be replaced with experience.

Nothing other than good things to say about him if he does go. Leaves in a similar vein to Yoshi, signed as a squad player but never moaned, complained and contributed when required.

Seems they are resigned to Gakpo leaving then, just a question of us coming to an agreement on the fee (if, as most outlets are reporting, we are the frontrunners to sign him).

At this stage, it's getting far too late for clubs and agents to start the process of negotiating personal terms so you'd think the only transfers that will happen now are ones where this has already been settled and it's just the clubs agreeing the sale price.

Wholeheartedly agree. One of my favourite players over the last few years. We have had terrific value from him since his move.

Telegraph reported this morning that we'd made a £21.4m bid (which seems very specific) but PSV want £38m...

Big old gap between those valuations.

I know he’s the darling of the forum but really can’t see this happening unless Stephens and Bednarek are both off. Plus he’d want to come here as first choice.

From what I have read, he hasn't been terribly good for Marseilles the last two seasons, hence no one coming in for him. His agent certainly knows how to get his name linked with Prem sides though. Perhaps we recruit him for our PR department?

I'd of thought us being able to secure his replacement/CM cover will also be a factor. AMN deal perhaps or maybe we are looking at some else like Sander Berge. He'd add yet more size/power, which we seem to have added in spades this summer.

Well maybe adds to the Brownhill rumour as a replacement for OR.

Don't think they're owned by the same people anymore, think they split off a while back.  Not sure if they still have the same investors mind.
