I know squad is important too but I’d rather we concentrate on our first 11 then cover like caleta Carr and amn..

our cb pairing are good our cm pairing are good are full backs are good and keeper too.. it’s the attacking options that are lacking ..

we are a couple of signings away from having a super team now. Imigine the difference it would make if we had gakpo and broja now 😍..

either would make it a superb window but I hope we spend our money on these positions

It's not about 11 any more though is it. It's now about 16, 5 subs has brought a new dynamic, they are not there for injury cover, 3 or 4 are there for purely tactical reasons. I'm not a fan of 5 subs, but it is clear that the game has changed and you need a squad that has 15 'first choice' players. Starting your best 11 is not even a given now.

MLG will come back if we sign James Garner, at which he will be here with his told-you-so routine.

Failing that, he's never ever ever coming back.

Well lets celebrate, yet another poster who has been hounded off this site.

Also FYI some of these Saints accounts on Twitter are just run by fans who would gladly take something from rumour sites with no source if it means they can get a tweet out to excite the fan base.

Only rely on articles with sources, more reputable journos, not Twitter ITK’s.
It’s going to be a mad final few days and I think most clubs will be sniffing around on deadline day to complete deals.

Oh wow, I didn't realise that. Thank you for letting us know.

Josh Brownhill has played half his career in the Championship.  Averages a goal every 10 games.

Wouldn’t bother.

My thoughts entirely - if he was going the other way, we’d be saying he’s found his level. Hope this is a AMN decoy sort of thingy.

Why judge him on goal scoring though? Seems a bizarre stat to use against him. If he was a striker, fair enough, but he's a deeper CM.

Just listed to the PSV fan podcast Rik Elferink. Elferink said:

Several clubs were interested in Gakpo this summer, Leeds, United, Nottingham and now us. Forest offered 25 million euro, that was denied straight away. Leeds no mention of an offer and United phoned PSV, but nothing serious. Gakpo and Erik ten Hag both have the same agent Elferink said.

We offered between 35 and 40 million euro. PSV want no less then 50 million. Our offer was refused but clubs still in talks. PSV don’t want a last minute deal because they need an replacement for Gakpo.

That’s all the interesting stuff that was said.
My next update will be tomorrow as I have used my 3 posts.

PSV have no chance of getting 50 million for a player untried outside their league which, let's face it, is not among the strongest in Europe. They are living in cloud cuckoo land. OK, maybe they want to keep him and are therefore just pricing him out of the market but they risk ending up with a very disgruntled player who doesn't bust a gut for them and we've all seen that happen. Not sure how long he has left on his contract.

We need to hit "Toby A / Mane" levels of deadline day quality.

I can't really remember how those panned out, is it right that there were no links or stories about those two guys until deadline day?

I remember Mane wasn't actually paraded until after the Sept international break, cue mini meltdowns on here that we'd spent money on a player who couldn't get a work permit.

He signed a big new deal in January IIRC

(Not that contracts mean a damn thing in this day and age)

Like Ajax had no chance of getting €100m for a player untried outside of the Dutch league?!

I seem to remember the club trolling everyone by saying at 11pm that they won't be doing anymore business and then about 10 minutes later having a photo of two hands signing a contract with the caption reading something like "But that doesn't mean we've announced all the business we've done" or something

PSV are in the driving seat really, he's got 4 years left on his contract.

If he doesn't throw in a transfer request and kick up a fuss (and that doesn't seem to be what's happening), then PSV can ask for whatever they want. If they don't get it, oh well, they can ask again next year as his value won't drop.

Didn't see that but I take things like that with a pinch of salt because it's probably twisted by the media. He was shellshocked, put under the spotlight and probably didn't know what he was going on about.

He's been complaining about lack of squad investment for weeks... He didn't get sacked for the 9-0, it's because him and the board are on completely different pages strategy wise. Nonetheless, bonkers that it should all come to a head 4 games into a new season.

Antony is a Brazilian star with senior caps to his name, he has far more of a pedigree than Gakpo. Cody Gakpo has not even played for the Dutch full national side.  I'd be staggered if they get anywhere close to 50 million for him.

They (Bournemouth) don't have very good players, not even close,

I'd take Solanke, and Lloyd Kelly's got some promise.

Re: Brownhill - his name came up about a month ago and has lingered, Harry Winks style.

If there's any substance to it, then Romeu must be gone.

Tidy but unexceptional midfielder. Hope he's cheap.

Getting into the territory where moves that may have happened now don't because the selling team can very legitimately say they had no time to get a replacement.

Gakpo training with PSV today.

I'm surprised we've left one of the key positions so late.

Gakpo has scored twice in seven Netherlands caps.

In regards to Gakpo's recent game for PSV against Rangers i totally agree with the above. I remember watching a couple of Celtic games when we were in for Van Dyke as i had never seen him play before and i was very underwhelmed by his half arsed performances.

I was very underwhelmed by his half arsed performances before he moved to Liverpool...

Yeah, missed that - so 50 million it is then 🙂

Doubt it will be €50m straight up - most deals at that level include various elements such as sell-on fees etc. Even at that price, assuming he’s really all he’s cracked up to be and given his age, it’s not unreasonable to expect a small return on him 2-3 years down the the line. Plus there’s the extra EPL money that comes from a higher place in the table. Factor that in and perhaps it’s not so much of a gamble for SR?

You'd take Solanke?  Based on what, the 4 goals in over 60 appearances (25 starts) in the Prem?  Honestly, I'd rather have Long back.  He only managed 15 in the Championship the first year back.  Not wanting to start any argument on here but I am genuinely shocked anyone would suggest Solanke.

What on Earth?! That's daylight robbery! I wouldn't pay a penny over £1 Million for them to take him.

He wasn't as bad as everyone thinks. He got written off before he'd even kicked a ball and was being taunted and jeered within his first two games. He got far less time to shine than the academy boys that we retain year after year after year despite them clearly not being good enough (Sims, Gallagher, Hesketh, Reed etc) and then claim they "didn't get a chance" when we finally release them with half their careers gone.

I’m not usually a fan of writing off players before they’re given a fair crack of the whip but it took me all of about 25 minutes to realise he’d never amount to anything much at the top level

He was genuinely awful and arguably the worst transfer I ever remember us making and there has been a few rough ones

He cost £20m ffs, and was brought in to score goals to keep us up, and he was really really shit. He was also the managers choice which the majority of fans wanted out, so was never going to get long to get people on side.

Sky reporting that we bid £21m for Gakpo and they're holding out for £25m - surely (if we really want to make it happen) we can stretch to that...

Assuming that's true then Gakpo is going to leave this summer.  Whether that's to us or not, who knows?  Once clubs start talking numbers then it's normally an admission that they're leaving.

Big difference in valuations between English & Dutch media.

Bound to be rivals:

• I’d still be wary of Leicester’s Fofana £.

• Do Everton need him if they keep Gordon?

• Villa pulled out of Sarr deal so must be still after a wide attacker?

• Leeds supposedly interested but have (so far) kept Harrison.

• Forest paid £800m for Gibbs-White but seemingly want 14 players for each position.

Yeah, I'm not having that. He was a shocker. In the list of worst ever PL signings, not just for us, but for anyone.

He wasn't any good as he's been a total failure even since he left us. He has scored the grand total of 11 league goals in 5 years and he is now at Henan Songshan Longmen in China.

Monaco are probably still having a laugh.

Famous last words but I think Leicester are the only ones to worry about there.

£25 million up front with say £10 million add ons possibly. West Ham’s Paqueta deal included like £13 million of add ons so it’s possible. I can see this deal happening, it has the kind of feel as to when Man City signed Robinho shortly after they got their Billions.
