Yes we do.  We have been appalling at the back in recent times and no way will two very young defenders keep this up (let alone remain injury free) for the next 35+ games.

This really. There is no way any of Valery, Stephens or Lyanco should be starting premier league games on a consistent basis. If ABK or Salisu get injured, we are screwed (assuming Bednarek is off).

Most of us don't deny it has been a good window to date and we have upgraded the squad with some great acquisitions.  However, I don't believe it is behaving like a prat to suggest the signings so far leave us still vulnerable because clearly there remain areas where we are lacking. Some may think we've done enough and you sound like you are one of them and that's fair enough - personally I reckon we need at least another striker and probably a creative number 10.  Let's see what unfolds.

I'm with you, the attacking third is still ringing alarm bells for me. I love what we've done with the CB, I love what we've done with CM and the goalkeeper, every one has been an upgrade. Big investments too.

Aribo will be a good addition, but he can't do it all alone. The attacking third, as it stands, is probably slightly weaker than last season in both personal and numbers. We are crying out for that centre forward with a burst of power and pace, It would make so much difference to us. If we don't do that and we have to rely on Elyounoussi and Adams/Armstrong for the goals then we're in for an incredibly tedious season in my opinion.

The club know this though, they know the missing piece is a game changing attacker and I'm sure we'll see that. Cover at LB and a number 10 will be a bonus and will probably depending on who we shift, but a focal point centre forward has to happen.

I can see a defender coming in too, as I think that will be critical if we lose Jan.

Last season, Salisu got injured/suspended and for a little while, form dropped like a stone.  Which is kind of what happens.  Before Tino got injured, he was very average (and that is being kind), after a storming start to the season

I will be amazed if ABK does not have similar patches, which again should be expected.

Agree 100%. Long hard season. And will need to rotate.

Also all spot on

Good points.  I guess the only thing you can counter with is whether another CB is a priority over the other areas where we're weak.  Up front for me has to be a priority whether that's another striker or a 10 that can also play as a striker.

Appreciate Stephens and Lyanco wouldn't be the choice of many but I'd take that risk over not improving the forward areas.

Tuesday medical booked....hmm

More than just Villa in for Bednarek.

Expecting plenty of movement in and out in next few days it seems....guessing amount of money we spend will depend on who goes out.

My guess is the medical is for AMN (complete guess I am definitely not ITK 😅

Call me an old cynic... ("Trousers, you're an old cynic")... but given how close we are to the transfer deadline, wouldn't we have medical slots booked in advance on a 'just in case' basis anyway...?

One thing I think we have going for us is this, unless your name is Ten Haag no one else really rates the eredevsie enough to spend big money in there on what they see as unproven in a proper league.

They look at the flops which make up the majority rather than the quality few who do well.

Can't be too many other teams willing to spend 30/35mil on the bloke who will say to him "come play for us, the big teams want to see if your skills transfer well, perform for 2 years and you will be 100mil player", also he has seen us do it with van dijk, mane etc etc.

As it stands, the players we have for each position are (their main positions)

GK: Bazunu, McCarthy, Caballero, Lis

RB: KWP, Livramento, Valery

LB: Perraud

CB: Salisu, ABK, Lyanco, Bednarek, Stephens

CM: JWP, Lavia, Romeu, Diallo,

AM: Djenepo, Moi, SArmstrong, Aribo, Redmond, Walcott

Str: AArmstrong, Adams, Mara

Ok, we have some versatility (Djenepo, Valery, KWP able to switch sides, Aribo as a striker) but we’re still lacking at FB and in attack. Personally I still think we’ll see Bednarek leave which leaves us with 4 CBs, plus Valery or Simeu stepping in if needed. Selling Romeu would definitely leave us light in CM IMO, unless JWP has another season where he plays every minute.

Two more players would be enough for me pending any more players leaving, a full back and another striker. Then spend money if needed in January. Shipping out some deadwood is also needed. With three days to go it doesn’t seem like we’re going to bring in 4/5 players, but hopefully we can get a couple we need. AMN would definitely add some extra versatility.

I said it last week, I definitely think we’ll be one of the active teams on deadline day.

Anyone subscribe to the telegraph, assume it's the old, here you go, no we want a lot more and by weds we will meet them in the middle with realistic add ons hitting their number.

He will then fail the medical 🤣

It’s randomly disappeared.  Article heading said we were £17m short.  (Basically a Wesley Hoedt, which, when put like that, seems cheap!)

I don’t think we’ve done enough, but that doesn’t mean its a bad window.. if I could be arsed to go back and look at what it was we needed most of us would say a DM, CB, FB, Striker, AM… none of us expected us to get close to that… yet we’ve done it all except for a striker and FB… by all accounts this is already a good window, if we complete the rest it will be incredible

All info coming out of and around the club looks like they are aiming to conclude a striker and probably also the FB we need as well as another AM and CM

So why exactly are we saying SR havn’t done enough ? Where we were before SR squad wise was indicative of poor quantity and quality of recruitment, they look like they’ve immediately addressed that

We apparently have around 40m for a proper striker if reports are to be believed, that is significant for us and I despite what some of thd moaners want I don’t want to just waste that on the wrong targets… because lets face it… you’ll be moaning about that next year…

Just checked out the psv forum to see what they say.

30% of the posts were complaining that they weren't as rich as Ajax and need the money after missing out on champions league.

They think they can get around 40+ for him.

A couple mentioned we would be a good club for him, very offensive and he would play alot with world cup coming up (this is a big thing here for players at mo as van gaal said they need to be playing to go) and he would then move to a bigger club in a few years.

Yup - I thought exactly the same when he was linked the other week with Man Utd,  It feels like he needs to come to a club like Saints before he makes that next move in his career. I just cannot see us spending £40m on 1 player, but lets see what happens.

Southampton's £21.4m Cody Gakpo bid rejected by PSV

Saints' offer for long-standing Manchester United target has been turned down by Eredivise club who want £17m more

Southampton have had a bid of €25 million (£21.4m) rejected by PSV Eindhoven for Cody Gakpo.

The highly-rated 23-year-old Dutch international has been of interest to Manchester United but they are now not expected to make an offer having finally agreed a €100m deal to sign Ajax winger Antony, who was their No1 target.

Southampton’s offer for Gakpo falls significantly short of PSV’s valuation for the player which is understood to be around €45m (£38.4m) including add-ons. It is also lower than has been reported.

PSV, who failed to reach the group stages of the Champions League last week after being knocked out by Rangers, are prepared to sell Gakpo but only if their price is met. They immediately rejected Southampton’s approach.

It is unclear whether Southampton, who face Chelsea at home on Tuesday evening and are 13th in the table, will return with an improved offer having already made five signings this summer as they look to strengthen Ralf Hasenhüttl’s squad. Other Premier League clubs have expressed an interest in Gakpo but Southampton are, so far, the only ones to have made an official bid.

Gakpo, a PSV academy graduate, was asked about his future – and Antony’s impending move – at the weekend and said: “Fun for [Antony] but for me and my future, I think that has no influence. It’s like a puzzle so in the next few days I will see which puzzle fits best. For me, it would certainly not be bad to stay at PSV. We’ll see.”

Gakpo, who scored 12 league goals last season and is represented by the same agency as United manager Erik ten Hag, also confirmed that United had shown interest in him, adding: “United are a serious option. I can hear it all. I try to shut myself off from it, but it’s difficult.”

Four in the next few days, providing they are the right ones to improve rather than bloat the squad, would be very impressive.

Agree with your last point also, but feel its a shame we missed out on Kaladjnic, who for far les than £40m, might have met the striker requirement.

Can’t see us losing Bednarek and Stephens if we’re not signing a CB. One will stay, unless the full back we bring in can also play full back.

It’s be #saintsy to sign a full back that couldn’t play full back…

100% Id of loved Kalajdzic but I think we’re looking for a player closer to Broja… infact Im pretty sure we’ll see Broja at the end of the window but on the odd chance we don’t it’ll be more of a poacher then big guy

Sasa I think would have potentially replaced Che if things were different

And 4 since ABK started, 2 of which were on his debut. And had Moussa at left back. It’s not awful, anyway watch us let in 9 tomorrow: 😂

SV has said yes from El Ghazi and now thinks it will close quickly

PSV is currently finalizing the transfer of Anwar El Ghazi (27). The attacker has already given his yes to the Eindhoven club and it currently also seems that the desired salary reduction can be agreed. El Ghazi will then be inspected on Tuesday or Wednesday, PSV thinks.

Can't see Broja happening. If that was realistically still on the cards I think Ralph and Semmens might have been a little more cautious in how they spoke about him at the Forum. That gave the impression that 'he tailed off for whatever reason... and he's not coming (we don't want him) back'.

Agreed. Really think that ship sailed either for fallout reasons or the ownership ones. Or that he feels he is a bit above us. One of those. No massive loss tbh

I think it can still happen, I think it could be unlikely if Aubameyang doesn’t happen but we’re in contact I think

Personally think we can do better but the club like him 🤷🏻‍♂️
