Ok, but I'd still like to know how their revenue is so much higher?

Because the last few seasons they have consistently had European football, and owner who has written off over £100m of their debt (I think £140m+ ?), and we've been fighting relegation battles.

Still mystified if a striker was our top priority when ings jumped ship that we still haven't achieved it over the summer, leaving it late!

Wolves have a multi-billionaire owner who has pumped hundreds of millions into the club since taking over in 2016 or so. Completely different ball park to us.

Think they've stated that their aim is to ultimately become a CL club, and they've had the means to push towards that.

But you're not allowed to do that because of FFP. I know it is a load of bullshit and it has loopholes galore, but you can see right now that Everton and Leicester are struggling because of it, and Newcastle are certainly being a bit more careful than I think most people were expecting them to be, due to FFP.

Dont they include inflation / currency fluctuations?

Mane is £10.5m, Vestergaard was £18m and Ings was £18m, Carillo was £20m I think...

In my mind I always had Carillo at £22M - What's important is that its basically impossible for us to top that and get a worse return 😙

Think it was €22m ~ £19.2m at the time.

If Everton are getting 45m for Gordon, then surely we should be getting nearer 30m for Che?

Nice game of roundabouts, Gordon to Chelsea, Che to Everton and Broja to Saints :smug:

After RHs comments at the fans forum, I think this train has sailed.

I don't agree.

Is that a don’t agree with the train/sailing phraseology, or don’t agree as in we’re still after Broja and would have him back?

Can someone explain why Broja form dipped end of last season? The whole team were dire. We collectively ran out of juice and had a 15 game meh.. Surely that would have impacted upon his motivation and ability to deliver goals? That he was def going back to Chelsea also might be a factor and his head was already turned as had somehow "made it?2 perhaps?. Did he get too billy big boots? Came in humble got too greedy/arrogant perhaps? There are people saying RH does not fancy him and such like - but when he was smashing up EPL defenders and scoring people like Franny were saying he was "the real deal" live on tv...and i genuinely thought he looked mustard a proper good strong fast technical physical cf the like of which unseen at SMS possibly ever ....how come he seems to have gone from the real deal to not someone we'd want?

I expect once the media started raving about him his agent got a few calls and that was job done.

As in we're still keen to bring him back, and he's keen to return. I think something will happen with him towards the end of the window, once Chelsea spunk another £50m+ on a striker

Only speculation, but there were two factors I had considered at the time, one was he may have been shaken by the whole Abramovich / sanctions issues which coincided with his dip, also the team were  became woeful around the same time, (Villa awy 0- 4)  the service was non existent, that would demoralise any striker.

Really? I'm doubtful, but that would be okay I guess. Would be big bucks, and not sure of the relationship he has with Ralph, but he may not be with us long I guess

I very much doubt that a footballers form dipped due to sanctioned issued againt his parents clubs owners, it's like the ranting that the glaziers are responsible for losing to a team that cost less than Fred! (yes i appreciate the Glaziers are awful owners and should be kicked out of the game but that isn't the reason they lost on saturday) It'll be a combination of the crap team performances, defenders getting wise to him, giving him more attention and the dips in form all young players go through.

Not wishing to throw stones in glass houses but I think you mean the Glazers... 😉

Interestingly, in the list of PL transfers posted by @le_tiss earlier in this thread, 7 other clubs as well as Saints have yet to spend more than £20M on a single player so far this window: Bournemouth, Brentford, Brighton, Palace, Fulham, Leicester and Newcastle. Of course this will no doubt change by the time the window 'slams shut', but it does show that we're not the only ones who have been shopping at the lower end of the market with just a couple of weeks to go.

Newcastle signed Botman for £30m, Palace signed Cheick Doucoure for £20m, while Fulham signed Joao Paljinha for a fee that was close to £20m.

I think it was a bit different in Chelsea's situation, given the heightened tensions around that time and some of the hyperbole being spouted it looked at one stage Chelsea were doomed. It is his parent club, been there since he was a child, probably harboured ambitions to be a star for them and then it all suddenly looked really shaky. As I said, pure speculation on my part.

Fair point about non existent service.

I know it might sound laughable but, for me, he had something of the Cristiano Ronaldo about him. He attacks defenders directly with pace and technical strength in final third in a way which terrifies them - and which we are unused to seeing at SMS from our attackers. He just wants to score. He can win a game by himself if he's in the mood and given ball in right areas. None of our current or recent past forwards can do this (though there's a promising case for Mara on his one cameo). IF there's a non football problem with him then we are nuts and need to show more mental flexibility in order to find a way to utilise his talents.

Did it coincide with the new owners being announced?  I can't imagine any self respecting Albanian wanting to be "owned" (even tenuously) by a Serbian

You'd think so, but maybe they were desperate to be rid of Abramovich. It certainly is a bit dodgy..
